[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, Creative Portfolio
[] Weaknesses: All Academics
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My essays and creative portfolio were completely honest, and therefor intrinsically original. I believe the people could really see my ineffable passion, necessity for Music and Art.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Marymount Manhattan University (Accepted)

[/ul]General Comments: I really am so thankful and appreciative. I am just so glad NYU believes me. Also, I am glad I got accepted because I wanted to show people with Tisch, that perhaps academics are not as important as passion and skill. Even though there were excessive times I doubted myself, I made sure I gave it my all. Never be afraid to apply, at least to Tisch, if you are concerned about your Academics. I am excited for all of you! And for those who got rejected, I just wanted to say continue to follow your dreams!

[] Teacher Recommendation: Thought they were pretty good, but again these were mostly the same ones that got me deferred from UChicago and UMich.
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty good.
[] Additional Rec: Had my piano instructor write one, I assume that one was very good as well.

[/ul]General Comments: Well I’m in  Now I have to figure out if I can afford it…

[] Job/Work Experience: Nothing important!
[] Volunteer/Community service: Around 50 hours

[li] Counselor Rec: Mediocre at best.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]

[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing!
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Creative portfolio and…passion?
[] Weaknesses: My SAT (I put no effort into studying which wasn’t a smart move)
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: They apparently liked my portfolio. The interview went well too! It was very intimidating since there were three of them in a room at the same time, but I think I did fine.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: Really, I think with my major it all came down to my creative portfolio. My stats otherwise would seem to be rather sub-par for NYU. I originally thought I didn’t even have a chance at NYU since I’ve never even taken a Foreign Language class in high school. But I’m very grateful to have been accepted!

I just watched an interview with Jeremy Lin, so what I got from it was that even if there are obstacles in life, you must persevere, so if you didn’t get in, it wasn’t meant to be. Even if your path right now isn’t clear, in the end you will end up in the right place.

[] Strengths: Fabulous recommendation, Unusual high school education, Gap Year activities, Good film, College Credits from advanced film courses.
[] Weaknesses: Lack of standardized testing besides SAT and AP, I was worried one of my essays which dealt with health problems was too sad, low SAT (although now it seems to have been slightly high for Tisch)
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think my double gap year activities really made me stand out. I had taught classes on film (some at MIT), and had taken some college courses and done very well. A professor at BU allowed me to take advanced film analysis courses over the summer, and he provided my recommendation. I was also very proud of the film I made for Tisch.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted to URI, will never know about anywhere else. XD

[/ul]General Comments: I didn’t rush to go to college. I took 2 years off partly because of health reasons, partly because I didn’t feel ready. I worked, I took classes, I taught classes, and I had a great internship. I had experiences I never would’ve had if I had rushed into college, and ultimately I applied because I wanted to, not because I had to. I was a stronger and more confident applicant because of it.
I hope my FA doesn’t suck though. XD

I applied BPE, but I still haven’t gotten an email. o0

**Decision: Accepted to (STEINHARDT) **

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 690 CR/710 W/640 M
[] ACT (breakdown): Ugh I don’t remember I got a 30 overall, sent my SAT to NYU.
[] SAT II: didn’t take it!
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.2
[] Weighted GPA (if available): 3.4
[] Rank/percentile (if available): n/a
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): AP Human (4), AP Lit (5), AP Psych (4)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): n/a
[] Senior Year Course Load: College Algebra, College Trigonometry, AP Studio Art, AP U.S. Government, Newspaper, AP Lang and Comp, AP Biology
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Lettered all years in speech and debate, top state qualifier in speech and debate all years.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Newspaper (Editor-In-Chief), Speech and Debate (Team Captain), National Art Honor Society, organized a hygeine drive, shadowed a local senator, “water ambassador” and educator for my county’s water resource education program, Peer Mentor/Tutor, Link Crew Leader. Yeah I had a lot.
[] Job/Work Experience: Internship with a top Denver photography studio, work as a waitress part time 10-15 hrs a week.
[] Volunteer/Community service: The hygeine drive, water ambassador thing, peer mentoring and tutoring and link crew are all community service oriented.
[] Summer Activities: No such thing. Well, I worked full time basically.
[] Essays: They were basically the . Writing is my strongest subject. I think they really helped me, honestly. Very unique.
[] Teacher Recommendation: From my newspaper adviser who has known me all four years of high school, and actually failed me first semester my freshman year in English I Honors. I’m now his editor-in-chief. He saw me grow. It was very personal and heartfelt.
[] Counselor Rec: Just dreadful. He spent probably twenty minutes on it. He doesn’t know me at all. It was six or so sentences long. I had to revise it for him. Disastrous. Didn’t mention anything that I hadn’t already.
[] Additional Rec: From my AP Government and former English II Honors teacher. Glowing!

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes. “Too rich”, according to FAFSA.
[] Intended Major: Public Health
[] State (if domestic applicant): Colorado
[] Country (if international applicant): n/a
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nada. Although I did play off of the idea that I was born at NYU Tisch hospital…

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: My level of involvement, SAT scores, essays, teacher recommendations.
[] Weaknesses: GPA.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think it was a combination of a lot of things. First semester of 9th grade I did terribly. 2.28 GPA. Second semester I got a 3.875, continued to do well up until second semester of 11th grade when I got sick again. My health was an extenuating circumstance, and I struggled a lot with my learning disability (ADHD) but I challenged myself all throughout high school with a lot of AP work. My GPA isn’t really typical of a kid with my level of involvement. My essays were well written and unique. I showed serious passion and focus. I think the ad com was able to look past the numbers, and see through every other aspect of my application that I am a strong student and critical thinker.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: NYU was my first letter! One for one!

[/ul]General Comments: Congrats to all. For those who didn’t get a congratulations today, you have something good in store waiting for you too. For those reading this that are applying next fall, don’t scare yourself away from applying because you think it’s too much of a reach, or you won’t be able to afford it. Look at my stats. They saw my mid-year report too, and first semester of senior year went awfully for me. D in AP Bio. I applied to a science program. Anything can happen. You just have to try, put yourself out there, and take a risk. The worst thing is getting rejected. And come May 1st it won’t even matter.

Accepted into stern.
