Chris - yeah that's the thing, haha. They always go: "THE BIG APPLE THE BIG APPLE NYC NYC!!!! Fifth Avenue!!!" with this crazed look in their eyes lol. I'm like, you'll get SHOT if you said that there, haha. Don't New Yorkers really don't like it when the city's called 'The Big Apple'?

I dunno. To me, new york doesn't seem like a great place to go on vacation for normal people. For me, i don't like it for the fashion or the empire state building or whatever, there's just something about it i feel connected to. I love how everyone walks quickly, and the last time I went was with a group of high schoolers that would just amble along slowly. if i was a new yorker, I would hate all of those tourists. I was the only sophomore on the trip; there were 2 juniors and maybe 9 seniors, and I got us un-lost a couple times. the city just makes sense to me. it seems so efficient and perfect and i love the street vendors and the sounds of the cop cars at night and the people dancing for money in the subway tunnels. there. 10 bucks nobody reads that haha.

^ It's always been mail, don't think they're about to start changing it now.

Fiona: Haha I mean, I'm not going to murder anybody over the phrase, it just sounds really stupid and corny lol.

Carina - Lol nice. Yeah I wouldn't want to vacation here either, cause vacation's suppose to be slow-paced and relaxing and quiet. NYC is loud and your always moving. But that's pretty normal for me.

who is bo burnham?
rstlne- I read it. Pay up. lol.
everyone else-AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. my stomach churns every time I am on this forum. This is cruel and unusual. Aw man, I dont think I can handle rejection and keep my head up for other applications. Like everyone came over on thanksgiving and they were all planning their trips to come visit me in new york and were all like, "this is our last thanksgiving with you here..."
its so much pressure! I want to go sooooooooo bad. I dont think this mexican thing will take me as far as I had hoped. How big does nyu weigh URM status?

thanks chris
and i agree with what you said... although it's not really any of my business, i think one should be proud of his/her accomplishments rather than his/her minority status hehe.

Haha well I'm proud of my accomplishments, but not of my minority status. I'm sad to say I'm nearly ashamed of being hispanic. Abe, are you a National Hispanic Scholar?

Chris- haha, I know it's really corny. But I know of this fella who looks like he's going to shoot someone when he hears someone call the city "The Big Apple" and he's not even a true born-and-raised NY-er! He just lived there for ten plus years I think.

How many of you have gotten the "You're so smart, and you're so in" explanation when you catch yourself going on and on about how selective NYU is and how hard it is to get in and how much you want to go? It's almost always people who have no idea about selectivity of college admissions - especially at top-notch schools. I have had so many people tell me that I'm guaranteed admission to Harvard, which is extremely laughable. But, then again, this is South Carolina. And if one ventures outside of the state line for a college education it is a large deal.

PerryA, I totally hear you on that one. The top students from my school are ecstatic(sp?) if they get into Ohio State. They hear my scores and are like "DUDE, LIKE OMG YOU CAN GET IN ANYWHERE!!!" Im like, if only.
