Official NYU Fall 2015 Transfer Thread

I don’t see a thread created, maybe it’s a bit too early since the deadline is still half a month to go, but I will create one anyway. Feel free to post stats/questions!

Here goes mine:

Current college: Loyola University Chicago, Quinlan School of Business (originally came for athletic)
College Major Applying to: Finance/International Business (actually going there for entrepreneurship)
Current major/minor: Entrepreneurship
Entering as: Sophomore
HS GPA (Weighted, unweighted, don’t know. Canadian): 3.3
HS ranking: not sure, not good anyway
College GPA: 3.9; Major GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2010 (going to take ACT, comment below if you think my re-attempt is gonna be worth it)
First semester took one business course, this semester has three business courses

Extracurriculars:

High school:
no significant leading role but lots of participation (Me2We, student council, etc.)

Essay (subjective rating):
transfer main essay: 7/10
Why brown: 9/10
Academic interest: 10/10
*subjective

Recommendation:
3, one from a English prof, one from a science prof, and one from History prof (this is definitely not helping, no professor in my major)

Why applying to Brown:
Shift of concentration from athletic to academics. the environment and the startup resources, financial center full of resources and connections

Typo detected: “why Brown” questions are supposed to be “why NYU”! oops!

Hello yoyo45987!

Why applying to NYU?
Graduating from CC and have a clear focus on what I want to study. The curriculum for the applied psych is incredible and the emphasis that Steinhardt places between communities and academia makes the program extremely unique and fascinating.

Hey Cannova!

Sorry I did not specify. I am applying to Stern. Since Stern is really really really hard, I am not sure applying there is a good choice, but I really want to study at Stern… It’s my dream school.

Your college stats look pretty good, I guess you really have to emphasize on how you started working harder in college. But I really don’t know anything about Steinhardt so don’t quote me… what I know from emailing the admission office is that for CAS the transfer admittance rate is almost 50% but for Stern is 2% (!!!)

Yeah I also did hear that Stern is really difficult to get into. I did describe in my essay how I am more serious about school and my future now than when I was in HS. Well I am hoping for the best. I am also applying to Steinhart because they have this program for community college student known as the CCTOP scholarship. But their program is what’s most interesting to me. I did speak with the program director concerning what the average GPA was for transferring students during the Fall 2014. She mentioned that the average GPA was a 3.6 with most students having 30+ credits. Out of the 90 applicants (community college students who at the time were eligible for CCTOP) that applied to Steinhart, around 60 were accepted. This is not very useful information to you since your applying to Stern, but may be for other students who will see this thread and have already applied to NYU Steinhardt.

Plz help me with my transfer to nyu,I have been accepted at RIT with scholarship for fall 2015 and my NYU poly results are awaited(expected rejection )but I desperately want to go there for doing a double major in integrated digital media and computer engineering.I don’t think I will get into NYU due to my bad HS GPA.i have been good in extra co-curriculars,no sport achievements but will play tennis in college.I am confident that I will get a nice GPA but what I am concerned about is transfer of credits.how should I plan my transfer to NYU poly?Plz help me,I am desperate to go there

I will also be giving AP’s of electricity and magnetism and calculus BC this year

@krazzywolf7‌ http://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/apply/transfer-applicants/instructions/additional-program-requirements.html Here is a additional requirement for transfer student. If you are fixed on the engineering school then look in the engineering school tab and see what you have to do if you want to transfer in. For transfer of credits I am really not sure, I suggest you call NYU and ask about it. Hope this helped!

Hi guys applying to Stern as well.
However, on the application portal my high school and college transcripts are marked as missing, even though I sent that way over a month ago. Is it just happening with me, or others have the same problem (aka they haven’t started processing)?

@loodik1
I believe what you are mentioning is the NYU Albert (or portal). If that’s the case then yes, I have the same thing on mine. I did call admissions to find out whether or not they received my transcripts. The only thing I got from them was “no news is good news”. Admissions is probably being flooded with so many documents from students that they are still organizing all of the paperwork. I wouldn’t be too worried though. If something were to be missing they would contact you.

Hi guys!

Truthfully I’m not getting my hopes up too high for admission.

Good luck to you all! Now we wait.

Just curious, has anyone else had trouble trimming down their essay? This 400 word-limit is killing me.

Thinking about Stern or Econ/Math in CAS…

@princesskitten‌ I had trouble trimming down my common app essay haha. I’m sure people all had their own issues.

Guys… I am really nervous… and the wait begins… now!
@transfersquared Apply anyways, you never know how things will turn out to be unless you do them.

Can anyone give me their opinion on my chances going to NYU?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if any of you had an idea of when external transfer applicants should expect to hear an admissions decision? I heard that NYU does their transfer admissions on a rolling admissions basis, but am not sure if that is accurate… I am applying to Steinhardt as a MCC major if that matters. Thanks!

@chisf11‌ Looking back at last year’s thread, I believe people hear back decisions throughout the month of May!

you guys stated the GPA in college, did you guys add every GPA and gave the average? or is the latest one? i’m part of the CCTOP partnership school, may apply for SPS and Steinhardt also, cuz i predict my GPA for this semester highest i could get is 3.5 ish :S doesn’t feel safe…taking 17 credits this semester

Can you guys chance me for NYU?
