Official NYU Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

I’m not sure if someone has already made this thread but I haven’t seen one lol

I just began my freshman year at University of Pittsburgh with an intended major of Physics and Astronomy and a minor in Mathematics. I know it’s VERY early but I’d like to get started on my fall 2017 transfer application as soon as possible. During my senior year of high school I applied to University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Fordham, Drexel, Temple, and NYU. I was accepted to 5/6 of them and was rejected from NYU. I’m planning on applying again for admission as a sophomore (fall 2017.)

Here are my high school stats:
High school GPA - 3.7/4.0 W, 8 honors classes, no APs
College GPA - I haven’t started classes yet
SAT - 1960/2400 and 1260/1600 (CR - 640, M - 620, W - 700)**
EC - SAT tutoring for other students during my senior year, youtube channel with over 50,000 subscribers, 3 years of drama department during high school (4 productions)
Volunteer Work - over 20+ hours at the spca, cradles for crayons, and other various volunteer events

**I’m wondering if I should consider retaking the SAT to score 1400+ out of the new 1600 system since my current score would only be 1260/1600

The courses that I’m taking this fall at University of Pittsburgh are as follows:
Calculus I - 4 credits
Physics I - 4 credits
Statistics I - 4 credits
Seminar in Composition - 3 credits (gen-ed)
Intro to the Arts and Sciences - 1 credit

Total for first semester - 16 credits
I’m aiming to get a 3.9+ GPA for my first semester.

I’m planning on joining the Green Team (environmental club) and pursuing some leadership positions and volunteer work as well. By the time I finish my freshman year at Pitt, I’ll have 32-34 credits.

I’m wondering if anyone else is interested in transferring to NYU and if so, please post your current stats or any questions so we can talk it out (: I feel kind of alone in this whole process so it’d be nice to know that someone else is feeling the same way.

I have no idea how I came across this thread but hiii anna! I’m subscribed to you on YouTube and seriously you are so smart and seem really passionate about science so I don’t think you’ll have a problem with transfering. I don’t think it would hurt to retake the sat just my advice. The new one is a lot easier so I’m certain your score would def improve

I think I’m applying to NYU for the fall too. I’m a little ignorant when it comes to transferring to non-UCs though. So admissions officers from private schools look at high school stats too? Well ain’t that a blow to my confidence…

Hi! So I don’t know if this is the right place to post this haha. I was just wondering if I have a chance.

I’m from NY and just started my first year of college at an art school and I am looking to transfer to an actual university. At the moment I am studying animation at Pratt Institute and I am planning on transferring to Tisch film and television. I don’t even know if my credits can transfer…

Here are my high school stats:
High school GPA - 3.3-3.4? I’m not really sure since I was coming from a private school with no real GPA. Average B-B+
College GPA - I haven’t had any grades yet. I’m hoping for something high because it’s art school and it’s my forte.
ACT- 27 (it sucks) but a 28 if I send two of them in
Extra curricular- 4 major art awards, sports for 4 years including captain for one season of winter track, leadership conferences, church involvement, counselor at an art camp, and a few overseas mission/community service trips.
Portfolio- very strong
Essays- Not so great…they can be improved with time.

I also have a double legacy at NYU. Both my parents both graduated there and my mother went back for dental school. My dad also ran for their team? I don’t know if this is relevant though haha.

I can’t stay at Pratt for much longer lol!! The people here are very quiet and keep to themselves… I need a place that has a nicer community.

How are you guys planning on paying for NYU? I’m just wondering. I want to go to NYU too.

Does anyone know what exact courses are required for someone to transfer to NYU Stern? I’ve been searching and searching but there just aren’t any up to date, definite answers out there. And is the deadline to submit the Common App to transfer for Fall 2017, November 1st?

@nybxsci On the NYU website the deadline is April . November is the deadline for spring transfers.

Could everyone post their stats so we can see what everyone has?

Current NYU Stern freshman here. Feel free to message me or respond to this if you want any insight into the school! I know CC has helped me a lot so I want to give back!

Hi everyone, I’m currently a sophomore at my university trying to transfer to NYU as a Junior. I’m a Hispanic, first-generation college student. I’m interested in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study and I was wondering what my chances of getting in were?

Current major: Marketing
Highschool GPA: 3.73/4.0
College GPA: 3.53/4.0
Recommendation: One from my economics professor and hopefully a second one from a professor at the University of Glasgow.
EC: Honors program student, student government, very active in my school’s LGBTQ+ club, dance team, 2 honors awards, National English Honors Society, National Foreign Language Honors Society, club soccer for my current university, area manager at my university’s concert venue, training specialist at my job back home.
Test scores: Not submitting

I’m also studying abroad at the University of Glasgow Spring 2017, so I don’t know if/how that would affect my chances. NYU has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember, and I’m extremely motivated this year to do whatever it takes to get accepted.

Okay! Here are my stats.

I’m a international student in Community College in California right now

I will have about 60 unit at the time of transfer, mostly liberal art core and electives with some accounting, business, econ class

My college GPA at the time of transfer will be around 3.64-3.74
(No SAT needed) took GED

-Asian
-Rec Letter from accounting and french and physics professor
-member of LGBTQ community, Lots of LGBTQ related activity, includes volunteer, leadership, international project
-work 2 different part-time on campus

Also I’m going to apply for Fordham as well

Is NYU economics any good? Anyone know the transfer acceptance rate to NYU Econ.

I know Stern only accepted 25 transfers last year.

Does anyone know how many students they accept into each college or which college accepts the most transfers?

Is this likely going to be the official transfer thread for NYU? If so:

-Freshman at a CC in Pennsylvania
-Poor HS GPA (2.78), average SAT (1150/1600,1700/2400)
-Currently taking 17 credits, will be taking 18 in the spring (taking Calculus)
-Currently have a 4.0
-Should knockout a decent amount of the GE curriculum depending on how my courses transfer NYU, I also applied to USC and my schedule is molded to fit their transfer expectations so I would assume a decent amount of the credits should transfer (given that both are top notch schools)
-Will have 2 letters of recommendation, 1 coming from my Calc professor and the other coming from my Composition professor

I’ve spent so much time focusing on one school in particular to transfer to, and I’ve got a list of others I’m interested in (NYU is my 2nd), but since I haven’t had the chance to do much/any research on NYU’s transfer process/expectations, I’d appreciate anyone’s opinion on my chances, especially those who are familiar with NYU.

Thanks!

I guess I’ll join this thread.
I’m from CA, my HS gpa was a 2.35 (terrible I know)

Current CC GPA is a 3.71 and I’ve taken about 34 units (currently completing 7 more). It’s a decent spread across GE courses and major courses.
I have been working full time since I moved out of my parents house at 18, and still am working full time. I hope that NYU appreciates full time relevant work experience (working in accounting).

I’ll be applying to Stern for a Finance major.

I’m currently a freshman at a top 25 public university looking to transfer next fall.

Intended Major(s): Applied Mathematics & Economics (double-major)
Current GPA: 3.88
Projected GPA (next semester): 3.90-4.00

High School ECs
National Honors Society

I was accepted to Gallatin last year but decided to attend a (much cheaper) public university instead. I think I may apply to Stern this time and hope for the best.

Current Major: Finance (I want to switch to marketing)
GPA: 4.0

Current ECs
Part-time Sales Associate at Best Buy
CEO of two start up LLCs
Volunteer Tax Preparer

Should we add our high school ECs in any unused activities slots or just leave them out?

Hey guys! I really appreciate any advice I can get on my application to transfer.

I am a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and will be applying to the MCC major in Steinhardt for next year. NYU was the one school I did not get into when I applied as a senior in high school. I have a 3.3 after a rough semester due to family issues (had to drive seven hours each way every single weekend for over two months to help family and really got in the way of my studies) which led to me actually receiving an F in Accounting. I do not want to be in Stern and am hoping they won’t care as much since it is not a required course and due to the circumstances behind the grade. I still did handle a high intensity internship with Hillary for America this year as well as a job and have impressive intern experience from this last summer. I hold leadership roles in multiple extra curriculars. in high school, I had a 3.85 unweighted gpa and was on honor roll all eight semesters. What are my chances? My classes are way better for this next semester, and I will not be traveling at all. I should be able to get up to a 3.5. Is it worth trying to do a retroactive drop of my accounting course so that is is not on my record?

Thanks guys! Hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone!

Hi! Another transfer student from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus. Is it worth to transfer to NYU CAS from Michigan LSA with a 3.50 GPA Unfortunately, I do not “love” Michigan’s campus culture. Should I apply for transfer?

Current Major: Undecided (LSA)
GPA: 3.4
Current ECs
FBLA
DECA
Wolverine Support Network
Smart Cities Club

High School GPA: 3.8
ACT: 30

High School ECs / Achievements
Senior Class President
Math Honor Society
Spanish Honor Society
High Honors

Also will NYU take into the account of difficulty at University of Michigan?

Major: Business Administration
Current College/University: CCC
GPA: 4.00
College ECs: Internship with school’s accounting dept. Honors Program. Trilingual. Limited ECs unfortunately.
Highschool ECs: Band Chess Club President etcetc (I have more but I think they may be irrelevant?)
I have will completed 64 semesters by this spring in three semesters+summer school. I took 19-20 units every semester so I didnt have time for ECs and wouldnt know what to do actually.
SAT Scores: 1900.

I know I have very poor SAT scores. Would it be too late to retake it?

Chance me maybe? :o
