My explanation of the city ecosystem question

The reason the author was unconcerned, not appreciative:

The author was disproving the thesis that nature was ruined by humans. He was not necessarily appreciative of the city ecosystem, he simply was not concerned, as he did not believe it to be ruining nature. He played it off as a shift from a forest ecosystem to a cliffside ecosystem. Therefore, appreciative is incorrect, unconcerned is correct.

"Nation doesnt have to mean country. in this case it means: "an aggregation of persons of the same ethnic family, often speaking the same language or cognate languages" straight from the dictionary."

For example, the Jews are considered to be a nation, even though they obviously don't live in the same country. You're thinking of "state", which is a political entity (i.e. a government).

I believe I put appreciation for the city one cause the guy seemed to be happy about cities.

And honestly, who would consider the people of Africa to be a nation? Either way, whatevs, this is petty, we know the answer was ongoing relationship. I don't see why anyone would be confused, I thought that question was easy and I suck at CR.

caesar: i remember the paragraph in the passage starting with her humble nature but then progressively moved to the arts, technique, and stuff...i thought choice b said something about prices in teh soceity or something

And Unconcerned does not mean he doesn't care, it simply means he isn't worried...those are different things...he's not worried because he believes cities are natural. He never said in the entire passage that he actually LIKED cities, though...that's simply an assumption based on his advocation of their creation

Since he was speaking "in broad generalizations" (which was another thing most people agreed on in this thread) about Africa as a whole, it didn't seem THAT crazy to me that they would call Africa a "nation". They're not calling Africa a state, in which case I would agree with you.

Please don't act like I'm stupid. I've gotten an 800 in the CR section twice. Is it not enough to simply say that you disagree and move on?

Phew, sorry, my post-SAT irritability is coming out.

agreed. Enough this whole nation thing. The answer is an ongoing relationship. P.S Somalians have a state but no nation (i.e. most somalians do not consider themselves as part of a nation)

Honestly, whatevs. I'm very happy that you got an 800 twice on CR. I suck at CR, but that doesn't mean I didn't know the answer to this question. It's ongoing relationship.

unconcerned:
1 : not involved : not having any part or interest
2 : not anxious or upset : free of worry

appreciative:

1 a : JUDGMENT, EVALUATION; especially : a favorable critical estimate b : sensitive awareness; especially : recognition of aesthetic values c : an expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude

is it appreciative or unconcerned

is it habitat or natural impulses

is it nation or ongoing relationships
