This thread is for International students taking SAT this October.
Please post your preparation methods and expectations

I’m giving 2 SAT 2’s (Chem and Math 2). I’ve been using Barrons for Math and getting low scores (600-650. Once I got like a 550) . After I ran out of them, I downloaded some old Arco Thomson tests and got 800s. Are they any good? Because they seemed a bit too easy. How would you guys compare them to the actual tests?

I received a pathetic score of 1680 (nearly 2 years age). Since then, I’ve been reading like a maniac and I have read through the Barrons, Bluebook, SAT 2400 and the Sparknotes website. Currently, I’m getting anywhere from 2000 - 2300 (2400 even once) . What I find the most difficult is that I always make STUPID mistakes. Like If somebody told me the answers, i’d kill myself. Because of this, i’m not sure about how the Exam will go. Good thing is, I still have 2 years before Uni applications, so I’m planning to take it again (hopefully not) and keep my options open

i am aiming to score above 2000 .my current practice tests scores are math:720, writing:600,and cr 540(1860)
i am scared about the cr idk what to do to score above 600 any help would be nice

who’s making the google doc?

If someone doesn’t make it until sunday I’ll, @satplzzz you should try to memorize Direct Hits words, I find them very useful

i memorized the direct hits 1 should i do 2 also , and my main problem is the long passage

Of course you should if you have enough time. For long passages you should first glance at the questions and then mark every line in the passsage related to the questions, for example when you see (36-40) mark these lines. After this you should start with reading, and when you come to marked lines- answer the question.

I’m taking the SAT for the first time in October too, and I need to get a good score too because I’m going to apply for fall 2015… I’m struggling with CR because Im an international student so english is not my first language

@ivan95 where are you from mate , and how much are you aiming to score

@satplzzz I am from Croatia. Currently I have 1970 superscored with math 790, and I am now aiming for more than 700 in both writing and reading. I really studied a lot this summer. Where are you from?

I’m giving the SAT for the first time on 11th October, I’ll be applying for fall 2016.
So far, on the practice tests I’ve been consistently getting 800 on Maths, 700-720 on Writing.
My CR scores are still fluctuating A LOT so I can’t comment, for example I got 760 on a practice test and then 2 days later I got a 520.

I hope to raise my Writing score to around 750 and believe that it can be done with a little more practice.
Same goes for CR but that would only be achieved with a lot more practice!
Btw, aiming for a 2300 here.

P.S. - I’m from India.

Anyone from Australia following this thread?

@ivan9 im from india. good job on the math section ,as for myself im aiming to get above 750 in math, but i wish i just score above 600 in cr, and can i ask you one help do you have ready examples for the essay befor the test???

where do I access the direct hits words (book 2) without buying the book? or is that illegal?

@mathgeek2013 direct hits vol 2 pdf is not available , i checked everywhere, only option is to buy the book

You can try on thepiratebay.org, Usually I don’t have prepared examples because when I see essay headline examples come to my mind in 30seconds. My advice to you is that you should use international examples rather than those from india, because on the last essay I saw that graders have some prejudices toward local examples( I had 3 of them, and 2 were croats plus Christophor Columbus) and I get only 8.

@ivan95 haha i dont know anything about india. im just randomly researching examples, and that is true never use any examples relating to a particular society.it may be offensive to some people, and does the size matter a lot??

You should use examples you are familliar with, for example, I often use Nicolaus Copernicus, Mcaulay Culkin, Quentin Tarantino, something from Game of Thrones… If you want 2-digit score you should definitely have more than 1.5 pages in words it is Beginning, 3 examples, and conclusion

@ivan95 well im thinking more of a detailed 2 examples is it okay because it tends to fill up the two pages including the intro and conclusion, and ivan which colleges are you planning to apply and are you taking toefl??

On my first essay I had 2 examples and filled 2 pages and got 9. I am hoping for the best schools but first I want to see my SAT results and then I’ll decide where I am going to send my application.
I took TOEFL and got 99. I’ll take it again because because I think that I can above 105 or even 110
