mabsjenu-- i would say so. that sounds right. LMU that’s a little generous :P

@Lm I doubt that has ever happened before

-2 = 35 is already quite uncommon

Mabs, it happens. It has happened on the last two released ACT exams. Here are the test curves from April where -3 math was a 35.

Thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/517771-april-test-curves.html

Also, on the next ACT (June), the -3 math was a 35 as well. And -4 on the English was a 34.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/755748-official-june-curves-finally-here.html

I’m fairly sure I didn’t miss any math questions on this ACT. This was probably one of the easier versions of the math, I don’t think the curve will be too generous.

oo my mistake

I guess I assume the curves to be harsher than they actually are

Has anyone taken either the June or April tests and this October one that can give a rough comparison of the difficulty difference between the tests (to help us get a better estimate of the curve)?

on the distance between the two points were there two answers that when taken to sqrt of were 5? I remember putting something that when sqrt’d was 5 but I don’t remember which one if there was 2

@mabs: I took the June Math test and didn’t find it to be that much more difficult than the October one…granted, it was harder, but I honestly think the curve will be about the same. Just my opinion though.

wait you thought it was harder? i dont understand how this was hard i remember last monthss test wass way harder:/

@rawk: when I said “it” was harder, I was referring to the June test.

oh okay 10char

can anyone answer my question above?

@jkaplan i thought we discussed that one on page 20
you may be referring to the tent problem where the altitude was closest to the number 5
sqrt27

nah the tent I got right, that was around 5.17…the distance formula question of the quad on a coordinate plane…I remember getting sqrt of something that ended up being around 5 but I think there may have been 2 answers that were around 5

as long as you knew midpoint and distance formulas, you should have gotten the correct answer.

I know i missed 3 for sure, all stupid mistakes, and probably even more random stupid mistakes, what do you guys think that will be? I made quite a few careless mistakes.

prob 34 or 33

I see much posting here about a “curve” on the ACT. No curve exists. Notice that the scoring basically stays same for each and every test for many years— -1=X, -2=Y, -3=Z etc. It’s always basically the same. Much much more, look at what the ACT says right on their own website: “Scores are processed and added each week, usually each Wednesday and Friday.” Obvious, a test date is not “curved” if some are graded and then scored and then mailed, and others have not even been scored yet!!! No such thing as a curve for each batch they score from same test date. Curve for one test date could only happen if they score ALL tests for one date in one batch and then decided if a curve is going to be made. But ACT is not doing that. They score some, release the score, and then score more tests from the same date. They say that on ACT website so there can’t be a curve for a test date. They score tests in batches and obvious they cant issue a curve for one batch that is different then another batch of same test. Reason for that is that whether they score one test or many test from same date, scoring scale is same. There is no “curve” for one month’s test. ACT is standardized. The “curve” if you are calling it that, is based on years of ACT test, not one test. So if you get an easy test, you get very lucky. If you get a hard test, you get very unlucky because scoring scale is basically the same. That simple. All this talk of curve on ACT is wrong. FYI - SAT is not like ACT - they score all tests at same time and do curve each test. Good luck.

What?

There is ONE CURVE per test

and the “curve” refers to the conversion from raw score to the scaled score which DOES VARY

I disagree. There cannot be a per test curve when they grade exams on a batch basis and send out the scores - even before all tests have been graded. A curve can only be made when all the scores are complete. But ACT scores and releases scores as they are graded - 2x week basis. How can there be a curve if that is what they do as they say on their we site. Seems impossible to me. The “curve” is based upon scoring from many exams - not a single exam - unless there web site info is wrong

In other words, if you have 100 tests to grade, you can’t grade 20 of them, send out the scores, then grade another 20 send out those scores etc… and make a curve. It’s impossible. But ACT issues scores 2x week as they grade exams - and even before all exams graded. That is what they say on their site. So it cannot be a curve for an individual test month. Seems pretty obvious. Am I missing something??
