Official October ACT Reading Thread

What was the answer to the question were breadfruit was one of the answer choices?

The answer to the palm tree was p. viscosa.

no pens it was coconut milk and that stuff. because they never mentioned the p. viscosa, they did talk about how islanders heavily depend on the palm AND COCONUT MILK. so It was coconut.

Mare- but if you look closely at the passage, it says that they gathered raw material for the novels they would write. So wouldn’t it be that? It never said anything about “redefining the Renaissance”, only “creating” it. The only thing that would be “redefining” is the fact that they were authors afte 1930, when the Renaissance actually ended in the 1920’s or something like that. But it did * explicitly * say that they collected raw material for future novels. I do remember reading that.

I’m afraid I can’t remember the other choices, but I know it was narrowed down to those two for me.

@snow - do u remember the exact question for the one that u say is “coconut milk”?

I put P.Viscosa and I was fairly sure of my answer

it said that which of the following would be native to hawaii. it never said anything about P Viscosa- I was about to put that, but I checked the passage three times and it never said anything about a P Viscosa. it did say however that the islanders depended heavily on coconut milk. So I’m pretty sure it’s coconut.

No it did specifically say P.Viscosa (it was very hard to find however) and it said something like “P. Viscoa on the island of [insert some hawaiian island here]”

For the coconuts, I think it was referencing people from other islands around the world

I;m pretty sure it didn’t because if it did, it would be in italics as it’s a species name. There was no italics that said P Viscosa, so I don’t think that was it…

i just picked the itallicized name because it was listed in the first paragraph

was the italicized name correct?

It did say P Viscosa

“P Viscosa” was in italics but I saw it in like one of the last paragraphs

It did? Where? And did it say specific to the island?

in the first paragraph i think the guy was on the island looking for seeds of the italicized plant

again i just remember something being italicized. i think it was in the first paragraph but i’m not sure

i picked it b/c it was italicized

yup first paragraph

Yep P.Viscosa was native to Kauai Hawaii. It was on one of the last paragraphs.

P. Viscosa was mentioned close to the last paragraph of the passage

I don’t think it did…if it did though, why didn’t they put it in italics? that’s the proper way of doing it.

It WAS in italics

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t- i looked at that passage FOUR times and didn’t see it…

:( :frowning: :(

^^ Cocaine is helluva drug

lol jk
