Official October ACT Thread

For those of us who are signed up for the October ACT.

Signed up on Saturday night.

Excited but feel a little overwhelmed. Still have to cover the Barron's and the Princeton 1296.

Took test for the first time in June. Now taking again as a Junior.
Here are my scores from June.

English: 32
Math: 26
Reading: 29
Science: 28

For a composite score of 28.

Wow, I wish to get that same score range! Do you have any tips for the science section? I’m scoring 19-21 on that section :frowning: !!!

Wow severe typo. 25 on science, not 28.

I didn’t read anything on the ones that dealt with Charts and Graphs.

Then I don’t know how I read the research summaries passages as quickly as I did.

But on the June ACT, I missed most of the last set (I believe 37-40). The one dealing with frequency. And the conflicting viewpoints killed me also.

science is so easy don’t read all the passages, just try to relax and read like the half of the passage then solve it to not waste your time because let’s say there are 6 questions on the passage then 4 out of 6 will be there. And if they are asking more qustions then just read but better guess on like 1 or 2 on that cuz time won’t wait for you :P

No matter how my oldest daughter tried last year, she could never finish the science. Her highest score is 29 (composite 32). However, my 2nd daughter’s first try in March/April got a 32. She did not take June ACT. I am waiting to see how she did on September test. Interesting to see one kid can not finish and the other one can finish easily.

Mastermania, are you liking the Princeton 1296 book? I am trying to figure out what to use right now to study.

DO NOT BUY PRINCETON 1296. Many typos in math section, and probably other sections too. I didn’t feel like studying after a few practice tests in that book because I feared I would run into more typos that would screw with me.

Skywalker, that’s what I’m afraid of. I’ve heard that the PR, Kaplan, etc. stuff is full of typos and isn’t like the real thing at all. What are you using to study? I have the real act prep guide, but there’s no strategy or review in it. I found some products that only use real act tests (posted about it in my other thread I started) but they have few amazon reviews so I’m not sure if I should get them.

Actually, I haven’t opened the Princeton 1296 yet. I am currently going through the Barron’s ACT. After I finish Barron’s, I’ll open the 1296. Most probably will open it by Oct. 1st.

Barron’s ACT 36 is what helped me the most.

1296 questions rox! I went from a 23 to a 31!!!

1296 DOES have errors in the math section, I agree. But it did help me over all. I got a 33 on Math!

when do scores come out for west coast?

well I live in Central time and it came out exactly at 12 AM last time. Eastern time is 1 AM so west coast is like 10 PM i suppose?
