OFFICIAL, OFFICIAL RD DECISIONS - Vassar '14

Crap the office closed about an hour ago…guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow. I just looked on the website here [Vassar College || Admissions Staff Directory](http://admissions.vassar.edu/contact_directory.html) and it’s really weird…one of the admissions officers is responsible for only British Columbia (where I am) and then Jamie Munzo is responsible for the rest of Canada lol.

lol… Hey, I logged into the congrats2014 website before I ever spoke to the admissions office. I’m pretty sure there is a positive correlation - so you’re probably in!.. I think. lol.

In reply to this:
"Invasiondays, I seriously doubt it’s your activities or essays. Activities or essays may help your application, but it won’t bring back the dead. No offense, but the reason why I think you got in was because you’re gay. Grades and test scores don’t count as much for you as they do for straight, Caucasian or Asian students.
It’s called affirmative action.

Suppose you have 8 different students with same stats and activities. All wrote extraordinary essays.
Each of the students is a member of 1 of the 4 races.
Each of the students is either gay or straight.
Each student can not have the same combination as the other student.
In theory, the ‘favorability’ chain goes like this:

Gay blacks > straight blacks > gay Hispanics > straight Hispanics > gay Caucasian > gay Asian > Straight Caucasian > straight Asian

The ones at the top are the most favorable. It goes downwards from there.

Honestly, I’m not accusing you of being ‘under-qualified’. My personal essay made me look like a gay Asian when I’m actually straight. I think that’s why I got picked. I hear Vassar likes gay people. I think that’s why I also got into Wesleyan, which also favors gay people."

I disagree with you. Without this essay, I would have looked really normal and heterosexual. I am an Eagle Scout, I play three varsity sports, I am active in my church, I volunteer, and am involved in three music ensembles. I do more than this but I don’t feel like babbling.

My GPA and Course Selection are very good, its just my SATs that stunk.

Anyone can be gay. There is no reason they would admit me for that. I described (quite well, my teacher cried when she read it…) how being gay has shaped me as a person in my conservative hometown. My Why Vassar essay rocked, and my Your Space gave the admissions committee a precise look onto who I REALLY was.

I’m offended you think they admit students based on sexual orientation. I worked INCREDIBLY hard on my application to compensate for my SATs and it showed.

Invasiondays, I wouldn’t get too worked up about this guy. I’m not sure what his shtick is, but he’s obviously not here for healthy debate, so it’s probably best to leave it at that. As for me, I think it’s clear that you’ve worked hard to get to where you are. So, congrats. You deserve it! Are you planning on attending? We might be classmates!

Totally agree with Bogface…you are chosen for who you are, not for your sexual orientation. That would be completely ridiculous.

@sehnsuchtting: Thank you so much. You have made me feel so much better haha. :D

Yay acceptance package came in the mail today! :D

Yeah, hopefully I don’t have to meet whoever that was next year… :stuck_out_tongue:
CONGRATS EVERYONE! Now, we wait. Money time.

Go tigerzilla! Congrats!

Yeah, I know. I’m really hoping the 100% of estimate need thing is fulfilled. And not with vast loans.

Same! I really really want to be at Vassar next year, but the aid will be the deciding factor…

Thanks Bogface…you too! Ahhhh I want to go so so so badly, I too really hope the financial aid is enough…especially because I don’t think I qualify for any American grants etc?

Accepted

ACT: 31
GPA: 92.5

No problem tigerzilla  are you all set on vassar?

I actually literally just received my financial aid package by email…huge fateful moment right here that will determine whether I can go! I have to show it to my parents haha. So hopefully I’ll know if I’m going very soon! What about you? Have you replied yet?

Finally found out that I was waitlisted and I shall put myself on the waitlist even though I am going to Amherst in the fall unless my financial aid falls through.
