Runnersmon- is either son a runner? Your S2's acceptances at CU and Wisconsin would lead me to think so, but it could be a coincidence. If so, will he be running at Wash U? Congrats. Karen

I know, the inca thing has grown on me, too. I actually picture my kids wearing feathers and animal skins when I see my screen name. :)

no news yet, momof2inca?

runnersmom,

I was curious about your 2 kids because they sound like my S and he applied to both schools. He could end up at either school (money issues), but I really see CHicago as the best fit. We'll see.

S was accepted EA to Yale. He is thinking of taking a gap year, thinking of waiting on a MT audition result, think of continuing his Juilliard audition. But H and I are happy and we are doing no more in this process. This is also my last year tutoring and working with other kids. Meant to stop two years ago but just didn't.

On a more sober note, my D has been waitlisted from her early choice medical school and things do not look good there and she has a lot riding on this. She is so depressed and upset. I am very concerned about her, and frankly, more nervous about this situation than about S's college choices. So for parents who thinks this ends here, well, my stomache is twisted with her unhappiness, and I am wracking my brains for solutions to her quandry. She is in anguish. It's going to be a tough year for her next year as her financee has made some commitments in anticipation of this acceptance that did not come and now may not come. She is coming home tomorrow, and I am really overwrought about this situation that has been brewing for a while. So we won't be overly celebrating.

Optimizerdad: You've heard about my cookies, I see. I like the idea of these guys gathering in your kitchen. It is good to know she will be near such friendly people if she heads to Chicago. Thanks for the offer to keep an eye on the CC UC bunch.

Jamimom:

I want to congratulate your son for getting into Yale but I also feel your anguish over your daughter's predicament. You must feel so torn! My thoughts are with you and your family.

Another lurker here... ;)

One son is still filling out the applications... Other son:

Accepted to: Princeton, E.D.
Decision: Well, where else?
Other info? Yet another Math maniac. And... Hm... Senioritis? Acute? Wait, he is a junior, he is supposed to be immune! :D
Oh, and the finaid is wonderful. Even better than all expectations... Princeton rules!

And... special thanks to Texas137 and tokenadult (we met in other 'Net spots...), as well as to other collegeconfidential inhabitants whose advice I, evil lurker, was shamelessly using... You helped us a lot, even if you don't know it.

Jamimom: I wish your daughter luck. I was in similar state of mind last summer, when daughter got into graduate school, but did not get finaid at first... Everything turned out OK, and I wish you the same.

Jamimom, I am in a hurry as I just stopped home and took a quick look of any news of my forum buddies' kids but I have to go out again. But WOW WOW WOW WOW about your son! Now, for a LONG time I have heard all the angst with him and allusions to poor grades and who knows what else but I don't know how poor they were (maybe it is all relative?) but getting into Yale is an amazing feat and so he can't be too shabby in the qualifications department!!! Way to go! So, you went through two mind boggling processes...Ivies and BFA musical theater programs.....I don't envy you, LOL...but look at the result!!! And it sounds like he is even still in the game with UMich BFA!

He may have aged you along the way but he done good now! What an outcome! He must be one talented young man.

I am sorry about your daughter's news and I hope another med school works out if not this one and that she and her fiancee can sort out their plans. It is not easy having kids and going through their disappointments, particularly ones that they or you have no control over. As this settles, something else will work out, have faith.

Mucho congrats to your senior!

Marmat....whoa....that is very exciting .....there are some amazing outcomes this year on the parent forum. Congrats!
Susan

Hey Congratulations to all the parents on this forum!! I have been away for awhile - we are buying a new house in Northern Va - getting ready to move etc etc so I haven't been a regular on here lately.
I do remember last year though...... ahhhh, the Yale deferral that came for my daughter. I was very hard on all of us and I think it took her awhile to let it go as Yale was her dream school. I told her she could transfer to Yale but she said she would finish where she started - this was before she left in August. I noticed that TheDad posted a thread on the happiness factor of the second choice school so I will post more thoughts over there.

But for all of your kids - congrats congrats congrats!!! At least part of it is over.

Susan - where did your D end up applying?

I meant the deferral was hard on us - not ME! LOL

Congratulations to all - reading these posts, I can't help but think of all of the anguish and anticipation that went into the process. You are all terrific parents --- and have done well by your children.

Jamimom, a special congratulations to your son ---- and I will keep your daughter in my thoughts and prayers that things work out just fine for her as well.

Jamimom:
Congratulations to your son for his Yale EA! And good luck to your daughter in her med school applications. I can empathize - D1 is applying for MD/PhD programs here, and getting some rejections for the first time in her life (though she is also getting interviews at places like UofC and Northwestern, so it isn't all bad news). She's handling it well, but we parents are degenerating to nervous wrecks.

PattyKK:
Bet your a__ I'd read about your cookie recipe, where did you think I got the idea from? :-) Actually, we're already keeping a friendly eye on the daughter of a long-time friend of mine. He lives in Singapore, and the daughter goes to UIUC. She comes up to Chicago occasionally, and stays at our place. Having more kids around to keep an eye on won't be any great stretch.

Jamimom--that is wonderful news about your son! Congratulations! Like the others have already said, I hope things work out for your daughter. It is so hard when plans have already been laid, too, and things aren't working out . . .

Hooray for your S Jamimom!!! It sounds as if he'll have amazing choices come Spring. I'll be sending good wishes to your D. Nothing's easy...is it? I wish you could celebrate the Yale acceptance more. But, I'm sure you'll have a HUGE celebration in the near future - for them both!!!

Karen,
Actually S1 ran cross country all through HS, but did not continue at U/C..S2 actually came very late to track. He's a sprinter and may try to walk/on at WUSTL. He's actually a really outdoorsy kid and that's why CU/Boulder appealed to him and my H went to Madison....kids keep applying, getting in and no one goes. Makes H quite melancholy. Well, we've got one more to go, he may get a Badger yet!

This board reflects some truly amazing kids, and parents. Congratulations to you all. Our school's deans (GC) constantly remind the seniors that while they may not all be happy in December, they will all be happy in April.

"...while they may not all be happy in December, they will all be happy in April."

What a great sentiment, runnersmom, and definitely something to keep in mind! It's wonderful reading here about all the successes and all the amazing young adults whose plans still may not be settled. Don't you all feel as I do? I can't WAIT to see what these young people bring to the world and create of themselves! As a first-timer parent in this college choice situation, I never realized it would be such a time of excitement and hope and optimism for our collective future. What wonderful young people we've all raised! Here's hoping, with that in mind, that your D will find a match that works for her and her fiance and brings everyone happiness, jamismom.
