Jamimom: Congrats to your son. What an impressive achievement! And my best to your daughter in her med school applications. Hope it all works out well for her.

I want to congratulate all of the students and parents, who have gone through this gauntlet whether the result has been an acceptance, denial or deferral. It is certainly a stressful process. I want to give out individual congrats as well as soon as I can focus on who is in where. I have been rather aimlessly posting these last few days, as I have been agitated about D's plight. The only silver lining is that I was not worried about S's situation. Though I did not expect this windfall, I was not concerned about him because he had applied to a ridiculous number of schools early in the process and enough of the choices were not highly selective to balance out the lottery tickets. He also really does not know which way to go and whether he should even go to school next year; he vacillates about graduating in January which I think he would do except for the wrestling season does not end until Feb/March and he is eagerly anticipating great results this year. My D has been so distraught and so unhappy. She really does not like her college; had planned to graduate early--this year rather than next, and the med school deal was the only reason she did not transfer last year, but the displeasure has been increasing this year. And I really have no solutions that are palatable to her. Her MCAT scores are not high enough to get in without some help and the college/medschool relationship was heavily counted upon though they would not give her a guarantee since she has moved away from the structured program with this early graduation. I'll be off line after tonight when she and the rest of the crew come home for Christmas. Have been spending too much time on CC lately, but it has been a welcome distraction from my own problems.

Will be thinking of you Jamimom. Enjoy the kids being home.
Tabby

Well, at long last, the mail finally arrived with news from Chicago. I was about ready to explode with anxiety, having lived vicariously for the past week through all of you and a thousand of the other kids on CC -- all those acceptances, deferrals and rejections! I was driving home from work today and decided I couldn't bear to open our mailbox like I usually do and would leave it to S to do when he got home. So, I drove D to swim practice and was approaching our neighborhood for the second time and noticed my hands were gripping the steering wheel like a mad woman. Hesitated, decided to drive by the mailbox again but saw S walking up our front porch. Honked at him and waved the mailbox keys. He came over and opened the box. Pulled out the big white envelope from Chicago, waved it at me and smiled. I still thought it might be a deferral and made him open it right there and read the first line! But he was accepted! Very happy all around. So...

momof2inca's S
Accepted to: U of Chicago EA
Decision: Most likely
Other Info: Hoping for merit aid

Momof2...Wahoo! It must feel great for your son to get into his first choice! I think most of us can relate to the nerves when opening the mailbox on a day a decision is expected. I also recall the way you find out online and it is like "click" and next second it is either good or bad news and the nerves at that second are difficult. I am happy your mailbox rendered excitement!

Susan

Congrats momof2inca and to your S. Tabby

I'm going to add one to this (Hi, Mom of 2 Inca's...how are things in Peru?):

All the more remarkable because she herself is bi-polar. Must see if MassDad's D, already at U/Chicago in neuroscience, would be willing to give advice via e-mail.

My daughter is home for winter break. She is a freshman at the University of Chicago and loves it there. It was her dream school and it has met all of her expectations.

mom of 2 inca (couldn't resist)

Woot woot (something I learned on CC). In other words, congratulations. After all the angst of delay, I'm thrilled for you!

Jamimon, momof2inca, congratulations on your sons getting in!

Jamimom, good luck to your daughter for med school. You give such wonderful advice here, hoping all the best for your family.

Congrats, momof2inca! (And I also admit to thinking that there was a South American connection rather than a South California connection.) I have followed your posts over the last several weeks, and I'm so happy for you and your son.

Please note that this thread is for ALL decisions, not just those as the result of EA/ED. If your S/D has made a final decision, perhaps based on rolling admissions, please post it here.

-Bob (digi)

Son was accepted to Northwesten ED. So with a little regret (mine, not his) had to withdraw acceptances from University of Alabama and Tulane. And I guess we won't be going down to visit Miami in January and don't know what to do with all this wonderful material from Duke, Vandy, Emory and scores of other schools...

I read a post from Concerneddad once that one of the hardest parts of the whole process was saying "no" to wonderful colleges...he was right!

...also seem to be lost here on CC....don't know what boards to lurk on anymore...the "OK, what do we do now?" phase I guess...

Congratulations to all...seems like a much higher acceptance rate for the regular CC's than the general applicant pool...

momof2inca--what a relief! So happy for you the wait is over! You had me on the edge of my seat, waiting for the mail for your S.

frazzledad:

Congrats on Northwestern. It's a great school. You should stay. As soon as the holidays are over and RD apps are in, I'd wager that attention is going to turn to clothing for cold weather (it has already started) and the bedding and lofting threads will be revived along with queries about luggage and transportation, fridges and microwave ovens, and many more. And then. as you can see, threads about freshmen coming home.

Oh, I'll stay....been lurking for well over a year ...what is so appealing about CC is the notion of getting a view or grasp of the uncertainty and angst of the college application process....Dad's are used to handling problems...now that this one is settled I'm looking forward to new ones...

Jamimom, sorry to hear about your D's med school prognosis. My own D is only a first-semester first-year and already I have felt the first disturbances in the Force that this is not the end. And as much as I've stoutly said, "You're on your own from here on out," I'm not sure how that resolve--on several levels--will be maintained.

"No plan survives contact with realilty." -- Von Schlieffen (I think. If not, it should be.)

More congrats to momof2inca and other University of Chicago parents and students. I think the school is amazing. I was sorry that my daughter didn't have the sense to apply--and even more sorry that I didn't go there.
