OFFICIAL: Policies of application submissions

Well, it seems like many of us are in the same boat, so I thought I would it would be best to get all our questions organized and hopefully someone will know the answers. Regardless of your circumstances here are the following issues:

A) Submitted payment after 1/1 11:59pm EST
B) Submitted Common App. after 1/1 11:59pm EST
C) Submitted Supplement after 1/1 11:59pm EST
D) Any combination of the above.

If anyone knows any facts about the policies of application submissions, please comment. Thanks from everyone that is freaking out right now.

E) Submitted all three before 1/1 11:59pm PST but after 11:59pm EST.

I can say that when I applied EA to Stanford, I called the admission the week before and they said their deadline was 11/1 11:59 PACIFIC TIME, so from my experience with Stanford EA, if you submitted it after 11:59 EST but before 11:59 Pacific, then you are fine.

E) At least some schools in the PST zone will accept apps turned in according to PST deadlines instead of EST deadlines, but I'm not sure if this applies to all schools in the PST zone.

So can anyone else help here?

bump........

Yeah, would a college be so heartless as to not accept an app that is a few hours late?

I am feeling for you but, it is not a matter of accepting an application a few hours late. How long has the common application been up (a couple of months)? There are going to be thousands of students who submitted an application on time (and at selective schools many of those students will still be denied admissions), so there is really not a need for them to entertain accepting a late application (remember they are operating on the premise of the best predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior) and you are also showing how much of a priority applying to their school was to you.

Keeping deadlines are going to be a very important part of your adult life. You will find out when submitting papers, applying for internships, jobs and grad programs that professors will downgrade or not accept late papers and you will be locked out of applying for jobs internships and graduate committes will write you back and tell you that they cannot consider your application because you did not make the deadline.

Don't submit your time cards, sheets expense reports, overtime statements on time and you don't get paid until the next pay cycle. You don't submit your light or phone bill on time, you sit in the dark with no one to talk to.

well, there ya have it :)

While I agree with Sybbie about the importance of meeting deadlines, most colleges understand that sometimes the Common Application system crashes or that there can be other technical snafus at times. I have found that most schools will make some allowances if these glitches occur as long as they are notified immediately.

Therefore, if your application was submitted a bit late due to technical issues, or you had trouble submitting your supplement due to technical issues, I would not immediately assume that you have been knocked out of the game. Instead, call as soon as the school's admissions office opens tommorrow, explain what occurred, and verify how they will treat your application. I would also follow up with an email to admissions summarizing the results of that phone call.

Again, some schools may not make allowances, but many will if you handle the situation in a mature and adult manner. Additionally, if you have any doubts about whether any part of your application was received, don't lie around worrying: call, and verify.

When it comes to college admissions, never assume anything. Verify.

I remember I submitted all three well past midnight (PST), and the university still downloaded the first two the next day. So it was fine.

(B), in my case.
I made a stupid mistake.
Submitted supplements and payments before deadline, thought everything was over and relaxed until 30 minutes past deadline when I realized I forgot to submit the common app..

Currently, only the supplement, not the common app., is downloaded by Cornell University, which makes me panick.
Hope I'm not screwed up. :(
