Pomona definitely considers you holistically- what circumstances you were raised in and how you took advantage of them. I’m incredibly thankful that they matched me and can’t wait to go there and meet you all. New faces, new experiences, all of this just seems so surreal. If you got rejected, keep your chin up and keep persevering. Don’t let a rejected decision be any indication of who you are as a person.

I’m incredibly happy to finally get that acceptance letter (though I wish I had gotten it in the mail before I saw the email). Good luck to all awaiting reply/ applying RD to Pomona! My only real comment for those looking to this for advice is to work hard on those essays, make them personal, and show strong dedication through your ECs. I can’t wait to meet the rest of the class of 2016!

I am looking forward to heading off to Pomona this fall. I am also excited to meet the rest of the Class of 2016! And to those who didn’t make it this time: Don’t hang your heads! You are obviously a talented and passionate group of people and I am sure you will end up at an awesome college next year :)

Hey gpomona, what do you mean by “(though I wish I had gotten it in the mail before I saw the email)?” Are you saying that Pomona sent you an email acceptance before you received your acceptance in the mail?

@Porchfriend: gpomona stated she was an athletic recruit, so was probably notified by someone in the athletic department

No, I too am an athletic recruit and received an email before I saw anything in the mail. And the acceptance in the mail hasn’t even come yet! The coaches aren’t allowed to tell you if you’ve gotten in before the admissions department has.

Other two were also very personal and heartfelt. The two very personal ones were very powerful according to my peers. Considering how I am praised for my writing, they probably worked in my favour.
Teacher Recs: One Very Good, and another that could have been Great. Second time teacher had recommended me for something (First was Governor’s Honors).
Counselor Rec: Good - she really didn’t know me too well, but she knew what I had one through.

Overall, I was greatly surprised by my admission. Even though my essays, my circumstances, and my strive for knowledge were incredible my stats and my official achievements were poor compared to others. However, I am glad to have been selected and I will gladly attend this amazing school.

I am thrilled and surprised I got in! Can’t wait to meet everyone next year! And good luck to those rejected/deferred, I’m sure you will end up somewhere fantastic!

@ People who are half-asian half-white - did you guys list White or Asian or neither on your application?

I checked off both

Looking at all these acceptances, I honestly don’t know why I was rejected.
I’m not too comfortable w posting my stats, but I can say I had
4.6 GPA and took mostly hard APs and Honors and got straight As
2350 sat and 35 act
800 on math ii and us history and 780 on bio
Pretty good recs (I think, cuz my teachers loved me), and extra curriculars that really showed how I use my merits for the better good of mankind.
Also, I’m an Asian male near Roseville.
The arbitrary admissions process really frustrates me.
Well, I’m gonna put my eyes to the east.
Hope y’all have fun at Pomona!

Asian male is pretty killer in college admissions.

Just saying.

Decisions aren’t quite as simple as 1+1.

Maybe more a question of geography. Many California applicants and quite a few of them hooked athletes in ED1. When you start to add up legacy, athletes, Questbridge, etc., there are not nearly as many available slots as the stats for ED would indicate.

I’m thinking you will have better luck on the other coast, where the schools are also looking for applicants from a further distance. I think your abilities will be recognized by your RD schools, boomboomkrn. Good luck!
