OFFICIAL Pomona 2016 Decisions

got the mail today…REJECTED TT

I live in SoCal

I was an ED I admit and depending on where you live determines when you’ll get the snail mail package. If you live in California, you can expect the mail either today or tomorrow; I got the package I assume they send to all admits with some enrollment and housing and tuition information today (I live in So. Cal). If you live on the East Coast or farther out, probably expect it next Monday. There is no email, although if they have an error like last time, it’s possible. They accidentally put on the form to return to them that they were waiving the $500 fee which wasn’t true, so they sent out an email to all the admits to correct this before everyone actually got their letters, but I doubt that will happen again.

Was that a mistake or a Prank one of the students employed in the Admissions office pulled? :)

accepted

I’ve gotten into 5 other schools, 4 with academic scholarships, and this is my first rejection. I’m guessing I didn’t seem too enthusiastic about Pomona because I applied 10 minutes before the midnight deadline and I didn’t do the optional supplemental essay. Also, being a white male doesn’t help anyone get into college, I’m sure, but it obviously didn’t hurt me at other colleges.
Congratulations to everyone who everybody who was admitted, I’m sure you guys deserve it. Have a great time at Pomona!

Decision: Rejected

Accepted in New York!!! So happy. :)

Where do you check for the decision?

Sent from my DROID2 using CC App

It comes via snail mail.

Acceptance letter arrived by US mail yesterday 3/23/2012. I believe one week before end of March is Pomona’s typical response time. If it’s a big envelope - it’s a positive sign. Filling in as best I could from what I remember of S generic application.

Decision: Accepted

College and Program: Pomona, Biology

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I (by section): 2280 first try, 2310 or so best combination of 2 tries. Best scores: 790 math, 720 reading, 800 writing.

[] Teacher Recs: 2, very likely exceptional.
[] Counselor Rec: Excellent but probably generic.
[] Applied on (EA?): No
[] Hook (if any): None. His interview went well, so I am sure that was a factor.

[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: He seems very happy; his parents are ecstatic.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is? The letter says 7000 applied, 400 were accepted, putting it at around 6 percent… Can that be right?

**Decision: Waitlisted **

[] School Type: Large competitive public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: ** Kind of expecting a waitlist but it’s still disappointing. The interview probably hurt, and my supplementary essay was probably the worst of all the colleges I applied to. 5 acceptances and 2 WL so far, waiting for the rest next Thurs. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

@ tommymore2012 Here is what the last couple of sentences on the website say:
“The deadline for admitted students to let Pomona know if they will attend is May 1. Soon thereafter, the Admissions Office will know which of the 956 admitted students will be the approximately 400 members of the Class of 2016.”

Acceptance rate = 956/7,457 = 12.82%

Of the 956, they only expect 42%, which is 400 to accept their offer and join the school.

General Comments:
Little surprised because scores are definitely above the median (e.g., median SAT this year is 2220, 40 points lower) and had legacy and other connections to the school. If it’s any consolation to others in this situation, here’s something I didn’t realize until glancing again at the USN&WR rankings for last year - Pomona has the highest middle percentile SAT acceptance scores of** any** liberal arts school in the country: 2070 - 2330.

In the past, others have surmised that Pomona is overloaded with California applicants. Among top seniors in California, it’s the go-to private dream school behind Stanford and the Ivies. While the number of applicants is only 3.5% higher, I’m wondering if the quality went up. Probably needed stronger EC’s and volunteer work to stand out. Good luck to those who got in; it’s a great school and Claremont is a nice (if quiet) little town.
