OFFICIAL Pomona 2016 Decisions

<p>I got waitlisted - my envelope was thin. I was expecting a rejection letter, since it was my highest reach school, so I’m happy being waitlisted! Will probably go elsewhere though, CA is pretty far away.</p>

<p>Top left is the enrollment package/RD admit envelope, bottom right is ED admit envelope.</p>

<p>School: private in Illinois</p>

<p>Interview: my first one. Definitely did not go well haha</p>

<p>Good thing I don’t like odd numbers?</p>

<p>What is the acceptance rate at Pomona this year?</p>

<p>It was about 12%… someone posted an article earlier with all the stats on it</p>

• Counselor Rec: Didn’t read it; she doesn’t really know me but I gave her a copy of my resume so she pobably just took stuff from that.
• Additional Rec: none
• Interview: none </p>

<p>Other
• State: NH
• School Type: Large Public
• Ethnicity: White
• Gender: Male
• Income Bracket: 200,000+

<p>Reflection
• Strengths: Essays, Geographic Location, Work Experience, Summer Programs, Music
• Weaknesses: Scores (especially SAT II’s), race, no interview, no visit
• Why you think you were waitlisted: Pomona was not my first choice so I didn’t show that much interest by visiting or having an interview.
• Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: University of Chicago with $2000 in merit per year, Oberlin College with $22,000 in merit per year, Lawrence University with $22,000 in merit per year, University of Michigan (Honors Program), Ithaca College
Deferred EA: Yale University </p>

<p>General Comments: At least I’m on the waitlist. Congrats to everyone who got in!!!</p>

<p>I got rejected, and although it is a fantastic school, it is not the school for me.</p>

<p>Just got accepted! Found out over the phone since I’m in India for the next two weeks. It’s tied for my number one with Stanford. Will post my stats in a couple of hours.</p>

<p>^aeropromaster, how did you find out over the phone?? I tried to find out over the phone but they refused to tell me :(</p>

<p>(also an international student who is going out of town for a while)</p>

<p>I’m not sure, maybe because I’m not an international student but I’m out of the states for such a long time to get my decision. I think I just got really lucky because my regional admissions officer picked up the phone and I think recognized my name.</p>

<p>Rejected because of “insufficient information.” My guidance counselor forgot to submit some materials. Raaaaaaaaaaaaage!</p>

<p>Rejected. It’s especially painful because Pomona was my clear cut top choice and I’ve been waiting for this result since I was deferred in Dec… I guess it’s time to set my sights elsewhere… QQ</p>

<p>Waitlisted! Probably because of my senior year grades-- a lot of B’s suddenly appeared… aaaaaagh what do i do? Can I write them? Send them an additional recommendation explaining my performance? :C</p>

<p>@paintmuffin Call the admissions office and get in contact with your admissions counselor, they’ll know the exact procedures for you.</p>

<p>Stats:[list]
[<em>] SAT I (by section): C 800 M 800 W 680
[</em>] SAT IIs: Math II 800 Lit 700
[ *] ACT: N/A
[ *] APs: N/A
[ *] IBs: HL: Econ. History, Chinese A2 SL: English A1, Math, Biology
[ *] GPA (UW, W): School doesn’t use GPA. In the last transcript (mid-year) I got 41/42 (five 7s and one 6). The first one was 36/42 and the second was 38/42.
[ *] Rank: school doesn’t rank as we are very competitive
[ *] Other stats:
[ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] ECs listed on app: MUN, Global Issues Group, Cross Country, school magazine, badminton, piano
[ *] Job/Work Experience: worked at a law firm last summer
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): The common app one was about my father’s influence on me (both negative and positive at the same time, like a double-bladed sword), and I think it reveals an important aspect of who I am in quite a powerful/moving way. Think it was great. For the Pomona supplement I chose the “fun” essay. I have to admit I made up crap because I couldn’t think of anything real to write about and didn’t like the other question (how my high school experience is going to influence my decision-making in college). It was cute but I probably not that great. I don’t know if the admissions guys sensed my essay was bs or what they thought about it (they may have liked it!), but I guess it’s always better to write genuinely.
[ *] Teacher Recs: Read one and it was great. Didn’t read the other one but it should be great too.
[ *] Counselor Rec: should be fine
[ *] Applied on (EA?): RD
[ *] Hook (if any): none
[ /list][ b]Location/Person:[ /b][ list]
[ *] State or Country: Hong Kong
[ *] School Type: international school
[ *] Ethnicity: Asian
[ *] Gender: Female
[ /list][ b]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: [ /b] Disappointed but I didn’t expect to get in anyway. Pomona is such a selective school and the applicant pool was very strong, as can be judged by seeing all the other posts here. I think my biggest weakness was that I didn’t have any overt/formal leadership positions or major awards at all, and my ecs were rather weak in general. Another factor is that this year 20-30 kids in my school applied, which was several times the norm, and many of them were very very competitive candidates who were strong on all fronts. It’s all good for me, however, since I already got into my top choice, UChicago. Congrats to all who were accepted!</p>

<p>I’m sorry, shootastar… but hey, congratulations on UChicago! You’ll get an awesome education there and I’m sure you’ll be very happy. :D</p>

<p>damn! am i the only one yet to get my decision? i’ve been waiting for snail mail for 3 days now, refreshing my inbox 50 times an hour… i thought it’d take time for me as i’m an international student but it seems somebody from around here had gotten their aceptance around two days ago!! :(:(</p>

<p>what do i do? call them? email them? or wait a few days before pestering them?? anyone else in the same boat as me???</p>

<p>User95, I’ve been refreshing my email all evening, and I’ve received nothing so I’m just going to wait until something shows up. Hopefully it will be soon!</p>

<p>^that’s a relief. I was starting to get a haunting feeling that i was the only one yet to know and somehow they had forgotten me! </p>

<p>Didn’t someone say earlier in this thread that the decisions would be out by 27th in the email? God it is so frustrating to be in the unknown! :cold_sweat:</p>
