[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/328

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Science Expo Director: organized and helped run a large-scale science fair for over 600 third graders. I got to be one of the people to head the event this year (3 year participant); CSF Co-President: I organized, planned, and ran a four day trip to Southern California to tour nine colleges -one of which was Pomona College (member for three years); ECO Club Aiding founder and Treasurer: Helped educate students and staff of high school, as well as the community, about their impact on the environment -initiated recycling program, etc, etc.; Track & Field Varsity Boys -ran mile and two mile, got my letter (2 years); Cross Country -Varsity, got my letter (1 year)
[] Job/Work Experience: Peer tutor at high school, selected by teachers; available 1-3 times a week after school for all tutoring needs!
[] Volunteer/Community service: Vice President and Secretary for Key Club - I have gotten over 300 hours with the club, and with independently working with the middle school, educating, counseling, and tutoring.
[] Summer Activities: I attended the leadership camp for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and I took two summer courses at a local college: Intro to Psych and American Government, getting an A+ in Psych and one of the 5 A’s given out in a class of 50 for AmGov![/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: 8; A long story about the lesson I learned from an experience from when I was younger, and how it has contributed to the person I am today[/li][] EC Short Answer: 7; Talked about the immense amount of leadership it took to run the Science Expo previously mentioned
[] Supplement: 10!; It was a captivating essay talking about a classroom experience. I wrote it in a very different style, and everyone I let read it loved it!
[/ul]
[li] Teacher Recommendation #1: From Science teacher I had for Honors Chem, AP Bio, Honors Physics, faculty advisor for CSF, and worked with on the Science Expo. It was very sincere, but had many mistakes.[/li][] Teacher Recommendation #2: From English teacher I had for 3 years for Honors 10th grade English to this year’s AP English. It was also very kind and nice.
[] Counselor Rec: Very nice woman, she liked me, and thought I was very smart.
[] Additional Rec: From Anatomy teacher; was my best rec. She said I had raised the standard in her class for years to come, and related an anecdote from my community service -an instance at the local retirement home I have frequented.
[li] Interview: I missed the deadline, something I think very much contributed to my waitlisting… D:[/li]
Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: December 27th!
[] State (if domestic applicant): Northern California
[] School Type: Public; rarely sends grads to top schools; located in country backdrop
[] Ethnicity: Did not state in application
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: ~$80,000
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): -[/ul]
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I have some interersting EC’s, and I think they were quite strong relative to my area and situation.
[] Weaknesses: Low, low, low test scores.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I am very happy with a waitlisting, as much as it hurts. I thought I had a very weak chance, considering my test scores, as they are very much underneath Pomona’s average. In such, I am honored to have been waitlisted. Nevertheless, I’m ripping my hair out. I haven’t gotten into to a single private school I applied to. I was waitlisted at UofChicago as well, and rejected at Stanford. I don’t have high hopes at all for Brown U. I think I shot too high with my applications!
[] What would you have done differently?: Gotten an interview. Perhaps it was what made the difference when it came to accepting me to their college.[/ul]

**General Comments: **Bah. Pomona was pretty much my first choice behind Stanford. At least I still have a chance! I am going to pursue this waitlisting like hell, and hopefully it amounts to something! I have been accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, and UC Davis, but I’m not too keen on attending a UC…

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2350 (780cr / 770m / 800w / 12e)
[] SAT II: 800 mathII, 790 bio-e
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.83
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no rank.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5, 5, 5, 4, 4
[] Senior Year Course Load: most rigorous, as always
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): art (10x int’l/nat’l awards, 5x int’l/nat’l/local shows, lessons, classes, workshops, city activities), varsity swim (captain), culture club (president), service club (president), another culture club (leader), social program (leader), school summer program (director), yearbook (editor), science research, miscellaneous volunteering.
[] Job/Work Experience: a little bit, nothing major.
[] Volunteer/Community service: " "
[] Summer Activities: research internships, social service internships, art, work, travel.
[] Essays: commonapp was wonderful, and it was about a studio experience where i was recalling my experiences with self-hate in the asian community and relating that to my reconciliation of beauty as superficial and beauty as something deep & genuine. this sounds awkward, but it came out fabulously, lol. pomona essay was hilariously retrospective on my experiences of moving and subsequently school-switching around the US, if that makes any sense.
[] Teacher Recommendation: excellent, but nothing jaw-dropping to adcoms.
[] Counselor Rec: same, but this was probably really long and stuffed to the brim with detail and anecdotes.
[] Additional Rec: none.
[] Interview: forgot/was too lazy to request one.

[] Intended Major: sociology

Weaknesses: ECs, Awards, I donno.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Not too surprised. Pomona was one of my top 4 schools on my list; it’s a great school and place. It was going to be a very tough decision because I got into the other three schools that were high on my list, and I’m not saying I’m happy or anything, but things could be worse; there’s one less tough decision to make for me. Probably won’t take spot on waiting list.

Congrats to future sagehens!!!
