Hey guys, my sister got waitlisted today, so we logged into her MyPomona. Yes, we do get that “Welcome to Pomona” thing:

On behalf of Information Technology Services (ITS) welcome to Pomona College! I would like to share some information with you about computing services at Pomona. Your account gives you access to your email, network services such as printing and personal file space, your student portal account and library resources. It is your responsibility to protect it and not share your password. It is very important that one of the first things you do is to set up your Mypassword account and change the temporary password on your Pomona account. You can do this by going to the following link:

[Pomona College Password Manager](http://mypassword.pomona.edu).

Email is considered an official means of communication by the College, and is used by the administrative offices of the College as well as academic departments and faculty to communicate many things from important deadlines to campus events. You are responsible for regularly checking your Pomona email account for such messages. Your email is accessible via the Web so you can read it from anywhere that you have access to the Internet. You can access it by going to [Microsoft Exchange - Outlook Web Access](http://mail.pomona.edu) Your mymail.pomona.edu email account will provide you with lifetime email service and currently comes with 5 gigabytes of storage for your email messages.

In your dorm you will need an Ethernet cable for a hard wired connection (1 gig), but wireless connections (802.11n) to the campus network are also available. Upon connecting your computer to the campus network, you will be required to register your computer. This automated process also checks to make sure your computer has up-to-date system patches and is running anti-virus software. We have a campus agreement by which we make anti-virus software (McAfee) available to you for use on your personal computer for free. You may download this program from our network or you may also use either Norton or AVG, but you must run a current version of this important piece of software.

One other service I want to bring to your attention is our campus software licensing agreements that allows ITS to provide software upgrades free of charge for Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows machines and Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintoshes for student personal computers. This software is available to you via the Pomona network once you are on campus.

Be sure to visit our website at: [Information Technology Services](http://its.pomona.edu). There, in addition to information about computing at Pomona, you will find a link to a video you can view prior to your arrival on campus that will provide you with an orientation to information technology services at Pomona, including more details about connecting your computer up in your dorm room, where to get assistance and more.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our Help Desk at 909-621-8061 or 909-621-8062 (x18061/x18062 on campus).

We in ITS look forward to welcoming you to campus and getting you connected to the campus network.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Pflueger

CIO and Executive Director of ITS
