Official Pomona College Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

I don't know if I'm even allowed to make an "official" thread like this, lol, but heck, I don't see any other threads for Pomona and I've been searching for weeks. I know I can't be the only CC user that applied!! So now that the deadline has passed, let's hear it- anyone else out there, if so feel free to share your stats, experiences, etc., and let's get to know each other while we wait out this storm.. ;)

And while we're on the subject, I haven't received any kind of confirmation that my app has even been received- anyone else? I called and they didn't even look it up or anything. They just said confirmations will go out within the next few weeks and basically I should just wait and see... which is not very comforting to my anal retentiveness... ;)

Applying from the University of Washington! May is so far away, I’m probably going to age about ten years from the unnecessary worrying. I mailed my app a couple weeks ago and got a confirmation three or four days later. But maybe they’re just too busy with freshman apps right now.

Wow, really? I still haven’t received ANYTHING! I’m actually going to call today because I’m getting nervous. They basically wouldn’t even talk to me last time I called, so…here’s hoping I have better luck this time, lol!!

Pomona looks AMAZING! I would so LOVE to go there. Their acceptance rate for transfers is like negative 12%, lol. :frowning: Good luck to us, though!

So, I’m from Springfield, Missouri, attending a community college, and I’m a non-traditional student (27 years old) and full time mom. When I have more time I’ll post my stats. So, tell me about yourself!! I’m hoping we manage to find the other applicants as well! I think it would be nice to get to know each other. I’ve been really enjoying the team-like attitude and support I’ve been getting on the threads for the other colleges I applied to, so I’d like to get that going here as well!

I’m a 2nd year at UCLA and applied to Pomona College to transfer for Fall 2011. I’m 20 yrs. old, Latino, come from a disadvantaged background. Although UCLA is a great institution I am a non-traditional student working, commuting, and taking time off to attend UCLA. Basically, UCLA is unable to invest in my college education, whereas, Pomona College is able to. My younger sister is currently a Freshman at Pomona College and she loves the school. She really convinced me to apply and give it a try.

I really hope we both get in. I’m pretty surprised that I haven’t seen anyone else on here talking about Pomona at all. Maybe that’s a good sign for us…?
So, I finally got acknowledgement from them that they received the pre-app sheet…but still nothing about receiving my app itself. Starting to flip out a little. Prob call on Monday. Have you heard anything else yet?

As always, good luck! I don’t know about you, but one of my schools should be releasing decisions this week… eek!

I got my acceptance a few weeks ago… I’m still deciding between CPP and SJSU, both for aerospace engineering.

You got accepted to Pomona?

I think frozenguy is confusing Cal Poly Pomona with Pomona College…huuuuuuuge difference!!

Oh, lol okay that makes sense now. Yes, HUGE difference! I was about to freak out if people were already getting decisions from Pomona and I’ve heard NOTHING! That would definitely feel like a bad sign!!

Thanks for the help in clearing that up, SMCguy! Where are you going/waiting to hear from/etc.? I’ve “met” so many nice, energetic, bright people on here. I wish we could all get into our dream schools! I think I’ll be as sad to read about anyone else’s rejections as I would be to receive my own!! CC is a pretty cool community, and it’s really helping me with the stress that is inherent to this process. Misery loves company, you know. ;)

@chasethecarrot My first choice is UCLA and decisions come out next week. My back-up is UCI which I’ve already been admitted.

I have a friend who went to Pomona, she was our valedictorian in HS…she loved it, went on to get a PhD from Cornell. Pomona is like a small version of Stanford, Cal Tech, etc…

^Yeah, it looks truly amazing, well, from what I can see online, lol. Wish I could take a trip to Cali from here in Missouri, but there’s just no way right now. Hopefully an acceptance will send me that way soon, though! I fell in love with Pomona almost immediately when I was researching potential transfer schools. It’s funny- I applied to a handful of Ivies, but Pomona and Claremont McKenna are where my heart truly lies, lol. I really hope to end up either at Stanford or one of the Claremont Colleges. Fingers crossed…

Good luck with UCLA!! It’s so exciting to be this close, yet somehow SO much more stressful, as well. Be sure to let us know the verdict when you get it next week!! Like I said, I can’t help but root for the College Confidential crew with every fiber of my being, and I just LOVE reading all the success stories, watching everyone’s brilliant futures unfold before our very eyes, literally FEEL their excitement just in reading their posts…it’s almost as fun for me as it is for you, so keep us posted! :)

Well, I’m going to go continue obsessively checking my mailbox, as I have about four times just today (key word: “obsessively” lol)…

aaargh!

Oops haha :stuck_out_tongue:
I did think you were referring to Cal Poly Pomona, not Pomona College.

I just checked it out and I’m very impressed with the campus. Sorry for the confusion :D

Bumping this thread on the chance that there might be more of us…

:D

Applied to Pomona College for transfer and received confirmation a week ago. Been having an anxiety attack three times daily since then.
I’m a second time applicant. I applied last year and was not accepted.
I’m tying to remember last year’s number of admitted student vs. applicants, which was stated on the decision letter. think it was like 19 out of 205. WAY less than what some online sites say.
Pomona is an amazing school as I’ve heard from numerous and numerous people.
My cousin is at Scripps, a friend is at Pitzer, and another friend is at HM and they are having some of the best times in their lives. They love everything about the Claremont consortium. and of course, Pomona is the best one among them.
Good luck to y’all.

Same boat, good luck to everyone! We’re in our last week of waiting now, hang in there and hope for the best

Does anyone have any idea when and how we will be notified? I’m going nuts!

I am also going nuts. I thought we were supposed to hear back on the 15th?? I got waitlisted at CMC so it’s not like I’m expecting good news from Pomona either but I would like to move on with my life.

I got a letter in the mail yesterday to my current college address. Good luck guys!

Got my rejection letter this morning.

Did the letter say how many people they accepted this year?
