what is a fee waiver?

Decision: Deferred

Stats:[ul]
[] Fee Waiver Used?:YES
[] SAT I (by section):Critical Reading: 640, Mathematics: 720 Writing: 800 (after 2 tries) (I re-took the sat in December, too late for ED, unfortunately)
[] SAT IIs: Literature: 640, Mathematics Level 1: 740, Biology M: 760 (I am going to re-take the Literature and Mathematics Level 1 examinations in January)
[] ACT:I did not take this test.
[] APs: Biology: 5
[] IBs:Not taken.
[] GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: Weighted: 103.33, Unweithted: (I assume 97.decimal)
[] Rank:1/325
[] Senior Yr Courseload: AP English Literature, Yoga, AP US History, AP Physics B, AP Calculus AB, Musical Theater
[] Number of Apps from Your School: I am the first applicant to Princeton in my school's history.
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: Student Government (I have been my class' president in 2004-2005), Mock Trial, Peer Mediation, Volleyball (1 season), I am my school;s student webmaster, FIRST Robotics, 4 science research programmes since freshman year, NHS, Political Club
[] Job/Work Experience:worked for few months at a warehouse.
[] Essays (subject and responses): I am not in position to judge my own writing.
[] Teacher Recs: I believe I chose teachers with whom I have a great relationship. I am sure their recommendations were as good as they could possibly get, and that is a wonderful thought.
[] Counselor Rec: My College councelor approach ed me himself, looking into my eyes saying "I wrote a great recommendation for you", I said "great", he replied: "NO, I mean I WROTE AN EXCELLENT RECOMMENDATION". I- "Thank You"
[] Interview (feel and general location): In a skyscraper in lower manhattan's financial district. My interviewer assumed he had more to say than I did. A sight he was in the wooden room. I wasn't satisfied because I did not feel as if I had a connection with him. Overall, I would call the interview quite artificial and uptight.
[] Hook (if any): Well, I am a first-generation, fatherless, dime-poor Polish immigrant.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New York State, NYC
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): A very diverse urban public school. Perhaps the best one of such kind in New York City. School population: 1600.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Income Bracket: below $25,000
[] Gender:Umm... male?
[] Hooks: My background, life status and aspirations.
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: As you probably have noticed, I am not your exact superstar, especially when it comes to Critical Reading and Literature portions of the SAT. I still hold great hopes in the Regular Decision and will re-take the tests (I am waiting for my SAT1 score)
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I either got deferred because of my rank, yet mediocre test scores. I hope that it is not only to appease me but because the admissions officers are expecting an improvement in my SATs.
[/ul]Other Factors: I used my Optional Recommendation as a third teacher recommendation. I am an involved student activist at my school what may be a repulsive factor. **
**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:I still hold my hopes. Although I do not know any of you in person, I wish to congratulate all the successful ED applicants.

am I just shortsighted, or would any of the other deferred applicants just rather have been denied so they could move on?

annandale1: sorry to read that your 500th post was not a happy post....well good luck and I hope you have good back up schools.

fee waiver is for students who have financial need and cannot pay for the application. the university will waive the fee for them.

All of the people criticizing me are all hypocrites.....If the shoe were on the other foot, your tune would be different.....If any of you lived in Jersey and still did not have your decision...you'd be freakin out.... (hypocrites)

Greco, CALM DOWN. Your decision was made a week ago. Nothing that you can do can change it. Why not let it be?

Greco, I understand how you feel. Some people in my state already got their letters, and I didn't. But, don't complain or take your frustration out on us-there's always tomorrow. It's not the end of the world. You waited for over a month. You can wait for one night.

thedude15 were u a URM?

[ b]General Comments:[ /b] GPA might be a bit low, but my school is competitive. Took hard course load, etc. I think the thing that might push be would be my unique personal traits, background, hobbies, interests, but I guess they didnt convince the Adcom enough so they threw me into regular decision pool to compare me with others and then decide. Ive actually gotten over it because now the doors are open to so many more great schools ( Stanford!!).
Its an honor to be deferred especially when I see so many other great outstanding applicants in the deferral pool. Don't worry, some of us will get in and the rest will end up in some other great schools. Not to be cocky, but if you truly think you are great and have great potential, if a school doesnt accept you it is the school's lost .
Alright--Im going to ignore P-ton now and am now emotionally detached from it. Time to finish those other apps!

DowJones somehow ended up in the deferred list, if anyone feels like correcting that...I don't know the formatting.

I couldn't agree more agrophobic...

it's on to Harvard, Yale, and UChicago for me!

Amen....GO Pomona! and thankgod for ED 2

lol pyro, i'm on the deferred list even though I'm accepted. No hard feelings though :)

So surreal, I can't believe this is already happening.

Still waiting...

frozen-tears, do you think it'll come to CA tomorrow?

Dont know what a URM is? so I dont know.
