This isn't meant in a belligerent way, but I don't think 1/3 of all undergrads are legacies. I know that roughly 1/3 of applying legacies are accepted. My dad went to Princeton- he's my source and not infallible.

Legacies are about 1/10th of the class. You can find this on "A Princeton Profile" on their website.

I didn't see a lot of Hispanic people on this thread :-....or many out of the top 10 percent. I'm scared now on both issues. I'm like in the top 15%/200 students... :(

Does having a parent from Spain count as being "Hispanic"?

It is Hispanic.

Why should such a person recieve an advantage during college admission? He's European. Why not give an advantage to French people?

I dunno, I didn't make up the rules...

did anyone else get in with ****E sat scores like mine? also, are there any other people who have places at Princeton and Oxford and are trying to decide between the two? it's a pretty tough choice!

In with 800M/720V, don't know if that's ****ty or not.

it's too good to be true. didnt think id get in cus all the american students have ridiculous SAT marks!

jimmy choo, I actually got into Pton ED and hope to be hearing from Oxford soon. Not that it matters bc (a) I like Princeton waaay more and (b) this IS early decision, after all.

Oxford, at least for US students applying, seems to be very numbers-driven (standardized test scores, in other words), so I think I stand a pretty solid shot, but I don't want to be too confident on a school of that level. Let's see...

Well, Princeton and Oxford have an exchange. (Yay! I'm excited!) One or the other, you may get to go to both!

By the way, I got my Princeton package just now!

What are the average:

SAT Math Scores
SAT Verbal Scores
SAT Writing Scores

SAT II scores (average of all 3)

In order to be a competitive applicant?

I heard this from one of the parents: to really have a good shot, you need to be at or above the 75% percentile (that is, the high end of the mid 50% statistics).

jimmy- They only use SAT scores to evaluate your academic ability. So I don't think they matter much if you show excellent academic performace. And you definitely did that with your performance at school and on tests. ( I have no clue how the British system works, but your stats definitely look nice :) ).

[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs: very abbreviated...well recognized soccer player on the local circuit (captain of club team, all-district, all-area...etc, played 12 years, i have to work a job in the spring to pay for travel and league fees), published writer (had poetry and essays published in legitimate books, not that poetry.com scam), key club prez (involved last 3 years), tutor almost 200 hours a year, started a pretty successful club at school (history club - after school tutoring, lectures by college profs, films, discussions, debates), involved in hispanic activities (shs, local latino volunteer organization, local bilingual newspaper), academic team co-capt (high scorer in numerous tournies), officer in a few miscellaneous clubs (philosophy club, computer tech association)
[] Essays: english teacher said they should be published...(1 about my half latin heritage, 1 about my relationship with a great poet, 1 about my favorite author, chekhov, who's inpired me to keep writing)
[] Teacher Recs: can't imagine them being better (although most have great recs)
[] Counselor Rec: had no respect for me (i.e. thought i was crazy when i said i was applying to ivies...cuz i've been told i look like a partier jock, not a good student), after reviewing my stats and recommendations, she wrote a decent one
[] Hook (if any): urm, solid recs and essays

[/ul][ b]Other Factors:** I'm overjoyed and somewhat surprised. There were many qualified applicants applying from my town, but I guess my stats and subjective material pulled through.
General Comments: While I'm excited beyond belief, I also feel a little overwhelmed. Princeton will be a lot of work (a lot of fun no doubt too), and I want to make sure I make the most of it. Plus, I'd like to walk on to the soccer team, so I'm feeling mixed sentiments of joy and anxiety still.

Yes, and besides, you need to be downright genius to figure out that Oxford application. UCAS was easy enough, but I had a pretty tough time figuring out the testing section. Luckily, my friend at Warwick helped me understand what modular tests were, and such.

CautiousPessimism, which college did you apply to at Oxford? did you need an interview as an overseas applicant? i applied to Queen's.

frozen-tears, did you get your package through FedEx? i got mine on thursday. saw the van pull up outside my kitchen window and almost went blind with excitement. the prospect of going to america to study is so incredible! especially because it's Princeton. i think this is going to be the best christmas ever. i was wondering, how common is it for american kids to apply to Oxford or Cambridge?
