Official Princeton ED Decisions - Class of 2010

Technically it shouldn't matter as Princeton is need-blind, so the admission committee doesn't consider $ when making decisions. However, they could have easily made some borderline decisions based on $ (you never can be sure).

has Princeton rejected anyone ED?? I know they usually do but I haven't seen any on this site. Although that kind of makes sense

Yeah they have although it's insensitive to constantly bring up the names of those who were rejected ...

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: art and art club; large, metropolitan newspaper intern; teen illustrator at newspaper; church nursery volunteer
[] Job/Work Experience: Drugstore over Christmas break last year
[] Essays (subject and responses): I was pleased with the way they turned out; I tried to convey my intellectual curiosity and love for learning in them.
[] Teacher Recs: Didn’t see them but I’m sure they were amazing… they worked so hard on them! Lots of anecdotes
[] Counselor Rec: ditto
[] Interview (feel and general location): It was amazing because she had all of the same academic interests as me… classical Greek, art history, studio art… we talked a lot about studio art in the liberal arts context at Pton b/c she double majored (that’s right, two theses!) in studio art and Hellenic studies… we talked about lots of other things and it went over an hour, when she told me she had to get going (we were at Starbucks).
[] Hook (if any): serious about the visual arts
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: SF Bay Area, CA
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Small parochial (~400 students), nice kids but most of them just want to go to jr. college; few AP's and zero success (until now :P) w/ getting kids into Ivies or Stanford

[] Income Bracket: ~$100K; sibling in college
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks: My commitment to the visual arts
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: Strengths: teacher and counselor recommendations, essays, visual arts supplement; sought out courses not offered at my school like EPGY summer physics, 2 courses at Harvard SSP, art classes at Academy of Art University in SF, UCCP Calc BC (distance learning calc this year), independent study New Testament Greek (sooo hard). Weaknesses: SAT I Math, AP scores and low number of AP classes taken.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Maybe Princeton wants more artists?
[/ul]Other Factors: my mom wrote an optional reference for me about how I help out my classmates and have an insatiable curiousity
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I sent in some pictures of me having fun w/ friends and family… don’t know if that helped, but it put a face on my application. I wrote on the optional suppplement that Pton was by far my first choice. Tried to emphasize that it was great match. See my mom’s post, #258. I read the Tanabes’ book Accepted! and Michele Hernández’s books like crazy… lots of helpful advice. Oh yeah, another funny thing is that I'll bet that if I started a "what are my chances?" thread with these stats, people would say I didn't stand a chance. Just goes to show how unpredictable college admissions can be!

I go to Hammond school. What school do you attend?

Zelda, I'm the one with the low SAT score you mentioned in your post. I wouldnt take that too seriously, as my British grades were outstanding, so were my essays and Ecs (i say modestly..hehe). also, a few years ago my sis got into Harvard with even lower scores than mine. good luck though!

jimmy choo, are you still deciding between Princeton and Oxford? I thought ED was binding and if accepted into Pton ED, the agreement is to withdraw from all other schools. Colleges take that very seriously.

I really don't think this thread should discourage people who applied regular decision because not many people who were REJECTED posted. So don't go crazy "omg I did not get 2400 SATs/do this/do that" because there probably were people with good stats who got rejected.

Euphrasie: what school do you go to? (hah private bay area schools...woot)

Jimmychoo: true, but i have great grades as well; for me, my secondary school record isn't my biggest fear, but rather, my low math SAT score.

congrats guys..now i guess i have to wait till April to find out

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got in, stats dont really matter now.

Hey, I was just wondering, now that I am in-- What kind of girls go to Princeton- I am coming from a strong public school that had its fair share of smart girls but I typically was with the girls going to the University of Kansas or TCU~ not to say those are bad schools but they weren't really pushing themselves in highschool, more on their social lives and looks. Sorry I just want to know what the rest of my class is going to be like.

well i'll start im 17 beautiful and really smart lol my pics r on hi5 and facebook email me if u would like to see them (this is so funny) well by the way u asked

Ha I think I will pass on that, I would feel just too creepy, but for any new Princetonians my name is John Duvall from Shawnee Mission East if you have Facebook.

Well, I guess this a little late, and I'm just a lurker here, but I applied ED...

Decision: Deferred

Stats:[ul]

[] SAT I (by section): 2090: Math 780, Critical Reading 690, Writing 620

[] APs: US History (4), Physics B (4)
[] GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: UW 3.75, but going down :(
[] Rank: n/a, probably somewhere between 10-20/450 though.
[] Senior Yr Courseload: Hardest possible, only 3 APs though
[] Number of Apps from Your School: 4, I think (all deferred)
[] Other stats: National Merit Semifinalist

[] Job/Work Experience: A couple of jobs, one during the school year and one during the summer
[] Essays (subject and responses): Talked about music, basically showed a lot of passion for music. I thought they were all pretty good.
[] Teacher Recs: They're both really good, but I don't know what they wrote.
[] Counselor Rec: Same.
[] Interview (feel and general location): Absolutely terrible...:). My interviewer talked for a really long time (over an hour) and I showed a lot of interest in the school...but my answers were dreadful.
[] Hook (if any): I thought the French horn might do it.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: HI
[] School Type: Private, really prestigious
[] Ethnicity: Japanese
[] Income Bracket: Middle class
[] Gender: Male
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: My stats weren't outstanding. My GPA was pretty weak, SATs are only average, and my ECs are nothing really spectacular. And being Asian also doesn't help either.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Nothing outstanding, and the low GPA probably did it.
[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I actually wasn't too surprised or depressed when I got the letter. Congrats everyone who got in!

Congratulations to all you people who got in! (And I hope I'll be there with you come fall)

I applied RD, so I won't be getting the answer for a while, but reading this I just wish it was april now so I would know.

Looking at the stats you ppl have, I'm somewhat discouraged, though. Mine aren't exactly great to put it that way...
(stats are posted at http://www.freewebs.com/lillekrokodille/stats.htm if you're interested)
I wish I could retake the SATs but they are only offered once a year where I live (Trondheim, Norway) and I can't afford to go to the capital to retake since that would be like an extra $200 in travelling expenses :(
Oh well, I'll stop whining now and go read about China under Mao for History ;)

Again, congrats, you lucky bastards who got in!

I have not been on in such a long time!!! I will post though!!!
