[] Gender: Male
[] Strengths: Apparently they didn't show through.
[] Weaknesses: SAT scores... yeh... look at them. But why wasn't I rejected?
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I'm quite suprised I wasn't straight up rejected. My scores are abyssmal. I kinda wish I was, so that I could move on. But, my entire school has been hit very hard. All three of our Harvard Hopefuls were deferred. Two of them actually had perfect SAT scores! Three were rejected straight up from UPenn. No one got in to UPenn. Not even a legacy with his own net worth! I thought he would at least make it as a developmental candidate. Only one got into Columbia and one into Dartmouth out of about 10. And yes, only one won the Brown lottery that I know of. I am not sure of the other Princetonians, but 5 of us applied. And I'm a deferral. Bah, I'll just go off to Cornell or Duke now. I wasn't coutning on Pton. It is a reach, and my chances are even lower now in the RD pool, so I'll just let this dream die.
[/ul]

Sigh, if princeton had sent the letter to my school instead of my home in China, i would have received the decision today. well, i will just have to wait to check the decision email tomorrow.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: :-)

Well, at least someone from Pittsburgh got in? Catholic Central?

omg jmarsh2006 you give me soo much hope....my credentials are very similar to yours--I just hope I get the same decision next year (I'm a junior).

Congrats again to everyone accepted!

Decision: ACCEPTED!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: old version: 800V, 760M
[] SAT IIs: 790 writing, 790 math IIC, 780 us history
[] GPA: 4.20 (4.3 is an A+)
[] Rank: school doesn't rank
[li] Other stats: APs: 5 world history, 5 english lang, 4 us history (shrug), 7AP courses senior year[/li][/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: not my most brilliantly crafted writing, but i talked about some cool experiences (getting interviewed on jamaican TV at a protest in NYC, playing the oboe at carnegie hall, etc)
[] Teacher Recs: two i imagine were really good, and one from my principal (he's not a genius, but he likes me a lot)
[] Counselor Rec: again, haven't seen it, but there's no reason why it shouldn't have been awesome
[] Hook (if any): a few...: international-level oboist (a long list of accomplishments/groups... a co-principal at Tanglewood last summer, studied with the best in the world, etc) i auditioned for the Princeton Orchestra conductor in september and he seemed impressed; editor-in-chief of one of the only weekly extracurricular high school newspapers in the country-- we've won some national awards; founder/president of a really successful Amnesty International chapter at my high school
[li] Major ECs: see hooks^ i don't really do much else besides those 3 things[/li][/ul]

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: upstate ny
[] School Type: highly competitve suburban public
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: male
[] Degree(AB/BSE): AB
[] major strength/weakness: oboe is a major strength, as is the editor-in-chief (i visited the Princetonian and they were really impressed with my paper... though they don't get to make admissions decisions). the main negative i always worried about was the fact that i only really have three ECs... i just put an insane amount of time into all of them
Other Factors: i have an older sister at harvard... i dunno if that would make a difference at all, but maybe. i also never took the new sat, even though it was “recommended”-- i figured my old scores plus writing were fine.

[li] Why do you think you got deferred/admitted: cuz i'm 6 foot 4 and can dunk a basketball... that plus general beastliness[/li][/ul]

Decision: ACCEPTED

Subjective:

* ECs listed on app: Peer Tutoring, Quiz Bowl, Graphic Novels, Poetry/Writing (School Magazine, a few publications), Piano/Band (couple of awards there, but it's been some time)
* Job/Work Experience: violin shop (basic accounting)
* Essays (subject and responses): my mom, spider webs, piano (not very original, but not bad)
* Teacher Recs: decent; some of my teachers aren't exactly the most talkative. One of 'em should be fairly amazing, but they all like me.
* Counselor Rec: incredible. She's my Eng Lang independent study teacher this year, and she thinks I'm a brilliant writer lol
* Interview (feel and general location): not bad, but not great. At his home. Showed him a graphic novel/manga page I was working on, and our magazine and he really liked them.
* Hook (if any): seriously, I had NONE. I was out for some of my junior year in the hospital (and almost missed my APs, yikes!), and never had the opportunity to try competitions or really majorly commit in awards or research... I'm definitely going to change that in the next four years. happy smile

Location/Person:

* State or Country: southeastern VA (Hampton Roads)
* School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): very very tiny private school...the average SATs are slightly higher than public, but we haven't had any HYPS for a long time.
* Ethnicity: Asian BIG GRIN I can't believe I squeezed out other Asians! (Sorry sorry if you are)
* Gender: F
* Strengths/Weaknesses: I skipped two grades, and I improve quickly (and forget even faster, hehe). I turned sixteen two months ago.
* Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Prolly my counselor's rec. I've heard it was absolutely crazily amazing.
I'm also very dedicated to graphic novels/manga, and I want to eventually publish my own series or magazine...so I suppose they found that interesting/amusing/unique? Can't wait to take over Princeton's Anime/Manga club.

Other Factors: Princeton Book Club award? Gov School? Girl whose record shows strong math and science abilities, but does quite well in classics, and loves the humanities and arts above all? Perhaps their writing department is rather weak too, or they just wanted an American graphic novelist. (I mean, Chinese pianists aren't exactly scarce or in high demand at Ivies....)
