Official Princeton Interview Thread

No one has created a consolidated interview thread yet, so I decided to do it!

I have mine in about an hour :)

Good luck on your interview. :)

So what kind of questions did they ask you?

Overall, how was your experience?

I've got mine in an hour and twenty minutes, heh.

Oh, just basic questions on my extracurriculars, classes, what I want to study, all that good stuff. He did ask why I thought I should get in as opposed to other applicants, and also he asked what I would tell the adcom if they were sitting right across from me. That ne through me off a bit, lol. It was a godd interview, an hour and a half.

Oh, and as far as the all-consuming question goes: Yes, I did take an EC resume, and gave it to him at the begininning.

Good luck everyone! (Like the genie/bee in the Disney Alladin says, "Just beeeeee yourself" :P )

^^ lol what did u say to that :P "Ummm, i would.. tell the.. adcom... ACCEPT ME PLEASE!!" ahahahahaha

My Interviewer was sooooooo nice! Although he was really weird, I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him.

It lasted for about 1.5 hours and we were able to connect on many things (including Differential Equations and modeling through approximations, power series, etc -- which is weird because although I understand it, I'm not really that interested in it). He did a great job of getting in depth with all of my questions, though I wish he wasn't a CS major because he wasn't able to answer any of my social life questions that well (engineer majors = no life as I'm sure we're all cognizant).

Everything was going well for the first hour until midway through an acquaintance of mine and her father walked up to me and were like "AHHH ZOMG WE HEARD ABOUT YALE CONGRATULATIONS DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO GO!" And I was like.... "ummmmmm.... well I'm still considering a couple other schools including... um... Princeton." They proceeded to be like "oh I'm sure you'll get in, you'll be fine! Congratulations again!!!!"

Subsequently, my interviewer was like "oh so you've already been accepted to yale." and I said "ummm yeah..." but then I strategically steered the conversation to why Princeton dropped their ED policy and insinuated that I would have done that if they hadn't (lies LIES!).

Other than that minor trainwreck, the interview went well and I have officially finished HY and P! The only one left is Columbia (and who knows if I'll even have one... I haven't been contacted yet :().

Do interviewers still ask dumb questions like, "If you could be a fruit, which kind would you be?"

hahahaha rocky, wow that is possibly the worst thing (realistically) that could have happened

Hmm. I haven't been contacted by an interviewer yet. Do you think if I haven't by now it's not going to happen?

I think there's still ample time. I haven't been contacted by Columbia yet... but I hope to still get one.

(I also said this in my post above, but I've decided to post it again).

I haven't been contacted either.

I'm getting a phone interview really soon. Do you think it's weird if i insist on initiating the call so he wont have to pay the charge? It's overseas (there's no alumni interviewer where I live, but there is where I went to school) so i reckon its not gonna be cheap..

Appreciate any quick comments thanks! I have to reply in a few hours /:

^ I would ask if you can call him back, to be polite. That's what I would do, anyway.

Gosh, eatingfood, that's an experience for the awkward interview moments thread!

I did mention that I can call in the first email (about a week ago, after which he went on business trip and hence no email). He just replied asking for my number and to arrange the time. If i write that again in my reply this time round would it be weird?

I'm just worried that if he's concerned about cost (unlikely, since he obviously has a high flying job, but still a possibility) --> the interview might be cut short --> potentially bad for me.

This is what happens when i'm too free. I worry about everything! :(

Mine went incredibly well; he was the most "chill" interviewer I've had, very young, laid back, a bit goofy. (Also, way too attractive. DISTRACTING.) He told me all about Woody Woo, though, which was what I wanted to know about, and then we talked rock music and eating clubs and extracurrics and coffee. Heh. I had some minor embarrassment when one of my little newspaper staffers came up behind me and thwacked me on the head (oh, the people you run into at Starbucks), but other than that, it was all good. :) Thank god, too, because my Georgetown interview gave me the creeeeeps.

HAHA EATING FOOD.. OMG .. ahahha that is hilarious ! congrats on Yale too! :)

lol ya squaregirl, my interviewer was mad "chill" too, ahaha - I was so surprised at some of the things he was telling me... IE: how he drank (underage ofc) with the sports coaches at bars bc he was the sports journalist for the Princeton paper, how his HS english teacher threatened to call up Princeton and have them rescind his acceptance bc he wasn't trying hard (back when they had EA/or ED), and how he viewed the female population @ princeton in his time... i must say he was absolutely AWESOME hahahaaha

top it off with him telling me he thought i would get accepted -_- which just foolishly got my hopes up. zz if only he was an AO

Okay, I have mine in about a week! I'm nervous, as can be expected...So how did you guys prepare for it? And what kinds of things did you say to those questions "Why do you think you should get in as opposed to other applicants" "What would you say to the ad com., etc.?" I would have no idea what to say for that...

HAhahaha I love eatingfood's account of the interview. But it was very smooth -- hopefully if anything like that happens (didn't apply EA/ED anywhere though), I'll think of something like that. I've had a few proud moments during interviews where I successfully dodged the question by throwing something ILOVEPRINCETON(HARVARD/YALE/MIT) right into their faces XD.

That being said, I'm having my interview at Starbucks on a block where there are 3 starbucks stores. Is that confusing or what lol.

Hey! do you think that the interviewers see our applications beforehand? or do they go into it fresh. I know for Georgetown they didnt see them, but do you think it is different for Princeton?
