Official Princeton Interview Thread

mine asked me what other schools i was applying to too. ag!!!

First posted in "The Thread for College Interviews" but then I found this one.

The alumni who is supposed to interview me for Princeton has requested that I come to his house. I've only done one other interview so far, and it was in a public place (a public library), as I thought all interviews were. Is it normal for interviewers to hold it at their own house? I'm asking because my mom is sort of weirded out and doesn't want to let me do it, I guess because she is overprotective, and the guy graduated in '75, and I'm a girl. I told her she could drop me off and wait in the car outside the whole time (it's only supposed to last 30 min), but she is still uneasy.

So is it acceptable for me to request that we meet in a public place? Does anyone have any advice about this?

what the hell is a princeton graduate (i'm assuming seasoned interviewer) going to do to you?

CharlieBrown08, if you or your mom truly feels uncomfortable having the interview at the alumni's house, kindly suggest that it would be more convenient for you to meet with him at a public place (Starbucks, for example). Most likely, he'll be understanding about it.

I've had two "house" interviews for both Dartmouth and Georgetown, and I never really had a problem with doing them that way. Maybe I would think differently if I were a girl, but I just don't see a problem with interviews at houses.

Mine was super nice and chill, which I am eternally thankful for. (My friend got a more professional interviewer and is dreading it). We went to a local coffee house, and basically talked EC's, school etc. Why Princeton came up at the end -- a good thing -- unlike some interviewers who like to spring it as the first question, as I later discovered with Chicago.

He was a recruited athelete, and basically said even people with 1900 SAT would have no problem academically (passing, maybe not excelling). Unfortunately, I'm the very antithesis of all sports-related activities, so when he asked me about sports, I was like err.. yeah, I like watching them? >.< He loves to procrastinate though, and so do I. I bonded with him over that. XP Princeton wasn't my first choice before the interview, but definitely shot up in ranks afterwards. He didn't ask any weird metaphorical, if your accomplishments are a chair what kind would it be... type of questions. Thank God.

AH!!! mine will be on wednesday. he sounded nice over the phone but i dunno. I have the interview at his law office...gah!!!! that freaks me out more than anything. I really hope I get a chilled person. I'd hate to be bombarded with serious political questions in which I have to be careful about my pov so that i dont insult him or something and get into a big argument...
so nervous :p

Mathematics professor, 170 minutes. I'm a prospective EE major. I think it went well.

^ Woah. nearly three hours? Holy mackerel...

who else had a phone interview and how did it go? seems like most CC ppl had pretty good interview experiences haha

How should one dress to an interview @ Barnes & Noble?

^ Pyn, this has been covered in a million different threads. But because I too hate searching and upon finding the right thread having my search words in highlighted in red, here ya go:

Slacks and a nice top (button down shirt), or if you're a girl, skirts work too. Suits are to over the top, jeans are under. In my opinion, it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Jeans are not okay!? horror

I wore jeans to four interviews and one of them lasted for 2 hours. I don't think they really mind?

I HAVE MINE TOMORROW ;___;

...With the CEO of Pandora Radio. Who would've known? I'm kinda scared....hopefully he's pretty nice. But a lot of my friends are envious I'm actually getting interviewed by Pandora's CEO...I'm just scared beyond belief that I'll seem inferior in like IQ and everything smart-sounding compared to him (he had Harvard undergrad, Princeton grad)...

Did anyone here NOT get contacted yet about a PU interview??

I had mine about 2 weeks ago at the local yacht club. I'm a guy and I wore a nice dress shirt, khakis, and a blazer. My interview went for about 2 hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes. I didn't expect to last so long but we just kept on talking and the surprising thing was that he was a history major and I plan on majoring in science. The guy was really relaxed and after the first 5 minutes, it just felt like a regular conversation with someone you've known for a while but still talking about school and ec's.

@banjo: I still haven't been contacted. I turned in my application way early. maybe they don't have enough time/resources to contact me for one

I just had my interview, and it went really well!

I guess I failed mine. ~45 min. Basically my interviewer came and told me to talk. Yeah...without direction I just babbled on about each of my activities and then asked some questions I was saving for "Do you have any questions for me?"... I kept trying to think of more questions but my interviewer kept asking "is that all? done?" so I finally gave up and said thanks etc. She kept saying "you're doing great" but its probably to soften the rejection :(

You didn't fail. Most college interviews are 20-45 minutes-that's fine.
