Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 730 CR, 800 M, 730 W (2260 overall)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: 800 Chinese w/ Listening, 770 Molecular Biology, 730 U.S. History, 800 Math II
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.04 weighted (.5 weight on AP/Honors classes) can’t be bothered to calculate unweighted
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5-10% ish
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Biology (5), Chemistry (5), U.S. History (5), Macroeconomics (5), English Language and Composition (5), Spanish Language (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus BC, Psychology, AP Environmental Science, AP Statistics, AP European History, Modern Literature (Honors English)
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar with Distinction… but that’s not really a big deal
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity swimming all four years, Habitat for Humanity (president), National Honor Society, Piano (various awards), and some other sports
[] Job/Work Experience: Bus monitoring (Head BM this year), various lifeguarding hours, summer camp swim instructor (2008)
[] Volunteer/Community service: Habitat for Humanity - about 60 hours of builds as well as other fundraising. Also some NHS hours
[] Summer Activities: Stanford U High School Summer College (2009), worked as a swim instructor at a summer day camp (2008)
[] Essays: Common App essay on Harry Potter (:D) basically saying that generalizing people into categories causes problems and how it’s important to recognize that everyone has a unique personality. Was a bit less cliche than it sounds here. Princeton Supplement Essay was on trying to figure out where ‘home’ is since I move around a lot. Again, it was more eloquent than I’m making it sound.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I’m hoping it was really good, although I never read it.
[] Counselor Rec: I know him pretty well, so probably good
[] Additional Rec: Ditto
[li] Interview: It took me almost a month to even schedule my interview because my interviewer took like a week to respond to each of my emails. I don’t know, she didn’t seem all that invested in it to be honest.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): I’m not sure if I’m a domestic or international applicant. I live in Tokyo, but I’m an American citizen and originally from Princeton. Lived in NY and NC as well.
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Private, international (on the American curriculum). ~140 seniors in the graduating class
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: I’d rather not say
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): “International” meaning that I’ve lived overseas… but not much else. I’m pretty sure that being Chinese works against me. I kind of have legacy I suppose… both of my parents went to grad school at Princeton - but Princeton hates its grad students :P
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Pretty well-rounded - decent test scores, GPA, ECs
[] Weaknesses: I’m nothing special. There are thousands of people just like me who probably applied - being well-rounded is really boring to admissions officers, I feel like.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Don’t know. Princeton was one of the Ivies I thought I had a shot at, so while I’m bummed, it’s kind of like getting hit in the face. You cry a little even if it doesn’t really hurt. I think I’m going to take the waitlist spot, but I don’t really want to still be guessing about my colleges come May 1.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at UChicago, Northwestern, NYU Stern, UNC Chapel Hill, Carnegie Mellon, and Santa Clara w/ full scholarship. Waitlisted at Princeton, UPenn, and Duke. Rejected from Stanford, Cornell, and Columbia.

[/ul]General Comments:
Ah well. Looks like I’m headed to UChicago! Congratulations to everyone who got into Princeton - you better rep the Class of 2014 well Condolences if you didn’t get in and really wanted to. I know what that’s like because Stanford was my #1 forever and it was horrible getting rejected there. You will find your way and what’s meant to be will be. Good luck, everyone! I truly hope everything works out for all of us.
