[/ul][ b]Other Factors:** dunno
General Comments: i saw the envelope and started crying. i mean, there's nothing i can do, but it IS extremely frustration when kids with lower or similar stats get accepted and you're left in the dark. i wish i could appeal since this was my first choice, and the only school my father would consent in me going to. if only pton knew that now i have to attend community college. but, oh well. i'll send them a nice (aka mean) letter when i win the pulitzer.

Sorry, Zelda :(.

I'm sure you'll do well wherever you go. And hey, if you win the Pulitzer, I'll cheer for you!

Zelda ~ Why community college? And I agree with CP: you're going to succeed wherever you go!

Zelda, I'm sorry. I'm genuinely surprised that you were not accepted. You'll still do great, but I know it's hard to settle for less than what you want, especially when you've worked so hard for it.

Best of luck.

Zelda- don't you have a full scholarship at Emerson? I know it isn't what you're looking for, but that is hardly a community college.

i do, but he does not want me to go there. in fact, he does not want me to go to any of the schools i was accepted to because, since i plan to major in creative writing, he says i will never make any money, and he does not want to "waste $40,000 a year so i can become an unsucessful loser" (actual quote)

Lol, I think that, if anything, my GPA got me rejected. I dislike GPA comparisons between students for many reasons. One being that teacher difficulty varies highly and I can attest to that difference from my AP to IB classes (I pull A's in AP classes while sleeping and get B to a B+ in IB while ignoring sleep completely). The top 12 students in my school are AP students with about 3-4 AP's each, whereas I have 2 AP and 7 IB and still manage to keep my rank. Meh, and the worst part is that we got two into harvard, one into yale, one dartmouth, and another cornell with their easier schedule =(.

I'd say we should fix the comparison between IB and AP before caring about AA since it has much less impact.

Nevermind, I just read your post zelda. I'd say that your father is crazy since the 40,000 a year will overshadow how much more pay you will get per year by going to a good college like emerson. Also, don't you qualify for financial aid?

i do, but we'd still have to pay some money. his concern is that i will be a loser in life without a job because, apparently, writing is a loser's job that only failures choose

he gave me a list of options which included software developer and engineer. (um, i am terrible at math...)

Zelda ~ Engineering is not a field that someone terrible at math should enter...is there someone else who can talk to your Dad about this stuff? Usually this topic should be settled about a year before the applications are due. Do you have a relative who can help you?

Writing can pay, if you focus on the right types.

Zelda- Honestly, I share with your dad's concern. My aunt, who loved writing, a huge book-addict, went to NW to study journalism, graduated, couldnt find a job, went back to business school. I also know quite a few english major graduates, who went on to law schools cuz their pay was, i would say, on par with those of "unsuccessful losers".

One thing for sure: engineers surely bring those bacons onto the table.

No comment at all....

HA! :D That's an original title.... I'll give you that ;)

Oh hey, I never got a chance to post up my stats! I feel bad, I know it's a little late, but I've got a little time to kill, so I'll work on those right now. I know how much a lot of you like to see the stats in order to guage the strength of applicants, etc. so I will post those up in just a little bit. :)

Hey AP Doolittle, congrats on Princeton! I know exactly how you felt, because I received four rejections (Harvard, Yale, U Penn Wharton, and Stanford) in a row, and only one waitlist (Columbia). I was horribly depressed until I got the fat packet with the orange seal!! :)

Congrats and I hope to see you this fall as a Tiger!

Decision: Accepted!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2050 (CR: 690, M: 650, W: 710)
[] SAT IIs: (Spanish: 800, French: 740, U.S. History: 720)
[] GPA: 96.5 (out of 100, unweighted)
[] Rank: Top 5% (my school doesn’t disclose exact rank)
[] Other stats: AP Scholar w/ Distinction (6 APs, scored 5 on AP USH, AP Spanish, and AP Psychology -- self studied), Leadership in the National Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, and Italian Honor Society; fluent in Spanish, Italian, and French. [/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Strong, very true to my character.
[] Teacher Recs: Awesome testaments to my abilities in and out of class as well as my interests. They both highlighted my character well!
[] Counselor Rec: Great!
[] Hook (if any): Hispanic (Colombian)
[] Applied early? No[/ul]
Location/Person:
[ul][] State or Country: New York
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Colombian American
[] Gender: Male[/ul]
Other Factors: My strong commitment to using my foreign language abilities to help those with language barriers. In fact, I believe I touched on this passion in both of the supplement essays. I chose to write both the “unofficial motto” essay and the “favorite quote essay.” In both, I was able to give them a sense of my career interests, as they relate to foreign languages and my love for different cultures.

General Comments: I’m VERY relieved to have been accepted! In fact, it was the last college decision I was waiting on. The night before I got it, I had received 5 other Ivy League decisions. I had gotten into both Cornell and Dartmouth, but then got rejected from Harvard, Yale, and Columbia (all 3 in a row). Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. However, receiving the Princeton acceptance is not only an awesome way to end my college decisions, but also a GREAT honor. I must admit, Princeton has offered my family an irresistible financial aid offer. Anyway, congratulations to all of you who were accepted! You’ve worked hard and you deserve this! To those of you who have been waitlisted and rejected – don’t sweat it. They received close to 18,000 applications, and naturally thousands of extremely strong candidates were turned down. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough room in the freshman class for all of us! But don’t worry, this is only for undergrad. There is still much success to be had! You will thrive wherever you go, and you will bring others with you toward success! I wish everyone the best of luck!

Oh well.... apparently the SAT score wasn't everything. I didn't mention by the way, that I had an AWESOME interview!

I'm not ashamed of my SAT score. I can't afford private SAT prep courses and the like. I'm poor, I'll admit. It's funny though, b/c I'm in AP Calc, so I should be better w/ math! I am a strong Calc student. I suppose it's just since the SAT contains easier/lower-level math. Idk... in any case, I have no qualms about it. I've been accepted, out of an applicant pool of nearly 18,000 applicants world-wide! One small detail like my SAT score isn't going to bring me down! ;) :)
