Official Princeton University - Class of 2010 - RD Decisions!

<p>well don apfreak! so where are you heading</p>

<p>apfreak, congrats! where are you headed? come to Princeton :)</p>

<p>congrats APFREAK, come to PRINCETON MAHHN</p>

<p>To all you accepted people: PICK PRINCETON!!! :D It's the ultimate undergraduate experience!</p>

<p>hey cautious, are you there?</p>

<p>if so, I have some questions to ask :)</p>

<p>can I PM you?</p>

<p>Sure, amnesia.</p>

<p>thanks!</p>

<p>sent =)</p>

<p>Reply sent, amnesia.</p>

<p>Apologies for any confusion, by the way; I'm an admitted student (who will be matriculating at Princeton), not a current undergrad...yet. :)</p>

<p>Looks like Princeton only likes valedictorians and can make only 1 or 2 exceptions for salutorians...</p>

<p>Haha, I wasn't valedictorian, and I got in. </p>

<p>Also, the val and sal at my school (along with a bunch of other people) applied to Princeton. The sal got in; the val did not. And the latter wasn't a bookworm, either; this kid had all sorts of diverse interests and some pretty crazy achievements. </p>

<p>The sal was probably helped by the fact that he had all sorts of science awards, culimnating with an acceptance to the US National Chem Olympiad Camp (meaning he ranked top 20 in the nation in chemistry).</p>

<p>When the numbers get close (Ranks 1 v. 2 v. 3 or so), the exact rank matters less.</p>

<p>I was rejected by Harvard, Yale, MIT, Penn, Cornell, Stanford, Berkeley and Caltech but got accepted by Princeton. ( was really thrilled because I am international student.</p>

<p>*Decision: Rejected *</p>

Other Factors:** National Merit Finalist. National Honor Society. I founded an ultimate Frisbee team at my school (which I presently captain). I have been on the school engineering team for two years (This year we are first in the state and have a shot at a national title). I have been on the school quiz team for two years (varsity). I have taken the most challenging curriculum offered by my school (Every science course, every math course, every level of Latin (including a class at The Ohio State University)). Outside of school, I am in an ultimate Frisbee league. In Boy Scouts, I have been the Senior Patrol Leader for the past few years (Basically, that means that I am in charge of the troop). I was also elected into the Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood dedicated to cheerful service).
General Comments: I feel very frustrated right now. I tried so long, I worked so hard...only to get slapped in the face. This has been the goal I have been working towards for the past four years. Maybe I am just bitter and not thinking clearly, but I really doubt if colleges admit solely on merit. Didn't a great man once mention something about judging someone not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character? I would not be so resentful if I did not know of Ivy League admits based largely on race/gender (These are people I know very well. They are wonderfully talented people, but they do not hold a candle to those denied. I do not believe I am making a foregone conclusion). I understand the need for balance. I just wish that the scales didn't need to be tipped in order to achieve it.
Congrats to those who got in! I am really happy for you. Enjoy it.</p>

<p>Rejected</p>

<p>2220 SAT
750 US History
730 Math I
700 Lit</p>

<p>Siemens Westinghouse Semifinalist, Intern at Federal Nuclear Research Facility, apparently not good enough. To top it off, they spelled my name wrong-- I wish this was an April Fool's joke. Too bad I'm not 1/4 black like my friend who got into Harvard. ( I had better stats)</p>

<p>Its so funny when I read this thread and I see "Accepted" and then I scroll down and see that the person doesn't have the best stats and I automatically make the assumption that he/she is probably an URM
AND IM ALWAYS CORRECT!</p>

<p>We deserve better than this...............</p>

<p>hey hey hey insecure....</p>

<p>don't get yourself down. I could say the same for stupid athletes, which i consider even more ludicrous than accepting a minority.</p>

<p>if it makes you feel better about yourself, i'm half cuban and have not recieved anything from pton yet. (and my stats are better than many of the minorities accepted....) so you can knock me off your list of minorities to hate, ok?</p>

<p>^ditto on the athletes.</p>

<p>"I was accepted to Oxford, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Williams, Penn (Huntsman), and Princeton! A very tough decision ."
Sheesh.</p>

<p>You best go to princeton! :p</p>

<p>here here to insecure</p>

<p>I don't have anything against URMs, it would be MUCH better if URMs that got accepted had better stats etc......</p>

<p>What type of a message does this send out?</p>

<p>"Oooo...if your a URM, don't work too hard just pray for the white/ORM kid that didn't get in"</p>

<p>......</p>

<p>I work my ass off probably as much as anyone here. I average 1 - 2 all nighters per week with about 4-5 hrs a sleep the rest of the school days. My stats are good and I'm at about the 50th percententile, but insecure you forgot that stats are NOT everything.</p>
