[/list]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
Briefly explain why you applied to Princeton (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): I really really love the atmosphere at Princeton, and the area and campus are lovely, you would never run out of things to do, but don’t have to be in a big city.

I never even imagined that I would be posting this one day. Thank you Princeton, for making everyone I know so happy!
Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2230-- 730 CR, 740 M, 760 WR, 12 E
[] ACT: N.A
[] SAT II: 800 Chem, 790 Math 2
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): International applicant, different system
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/250 in class 12 mid terms…we have different ranking system; it’s for every year, not cumulative. Top 5 every time, except class 10.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Nada.
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): Nada.
[] Senior Year Course Load: Physics, Chemistry, Math, Econ (Micro+Macro), English
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nationals Table tennis, some pretty sweet money for environmentalism, A really good Science internship in the state (top 1% selected for it)…
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Table tennis (National level awards, Captain of state as well as school team), Bharatanatyam dance (Indian classical dance) for 11 years from a very famous guru, Interact Club (Vice President)-very heavy involvement), environmentalism through interact club–crazy involvement, made film on polluted river that won second prize in state, theater for a year or so, but State award in that, debate: one state award and some school stuff that doesn’t really count, but I wrote my CA EC essay on Debate and it talked about why Debate was important to me although even after so many years I didn’t have many prizes in it.
[] Job/Work Experience: (Coach) Summer TT coaching camp at school-class 11,12, (Teacher, unpaid) Bharatanatyam dance for short while.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Teaching underprivileged kids for two years, plus loads and loads of Interact Club stuff, Vice President of Interact Club
[] Summer Activities: Not much…just heavy training for Table Tennis, and more teaching, more every EC basically.
[] Essays: Well, I’m very critical when it comes to my essays, but for my CommonApp, the guy who edited it told me that it was one of the best of ~60 others he’d edited (here on CC), my supp was one on Noddy and Harry Potter and I wrote that two hours before the deadline, and that essay I feel was what pushed me in. I also submitted another essay on Bharatanatyam dance.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Pretty nice I think. Only praises.
[] Counselor Rec: Generic…
[] Additional Rec: From Sports coach…outstanding!!
[] Interview: Was over the phone, and for around an hour. We had some telephone problems in the beginning, but it worked out soon enough. He didn’t speak much, except while answering my questions, but I suppose it wasn’t too bad. He ended it on a very encouraging note…but seeing that I could hardly hear the chap (who is now at HBS, ironic innit?) I can’t say anything for sure!
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant):
[] Country (if international applicant): INDIA
[] School Type:PUBLIC
[] Ethnicity:ASIAN! Purely desi.
[] Gender:Female
[] Income Bracket: Pretty low by American standards.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nah. I’m URM.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths:I think that essay really clicked, because it told a very different story, and that’s what made them like me. I do have a pretty good story, and I’m glad I had the courage to go through with it…I feel that without it, I’d probably be in the reject pile already.
[] Weaknesses: Well, I’m URM…I actually dunno. I thought that coming from India and competing with all those mad 2300+s would be hard, but apparently SAT scores don’t matte much in the end! I dunno really. I thought I was an okay applicant. Not extraordinary, but not too bad either.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My essay essay essay! Unique unique story!
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Harvard, UPenn Smith college and Mount Holyoke (safeties. No not Harvard and Penn! The other two!), waitlisted at Brown, UChicago, WUStL and Wesleyan, and rejected at Dartmouth, Yale and Wellesley and Swarthmore. I asked for full FA as an international, so I was glad to know that they liked me enough to waitlist me. But gotta admit, it did hurt. Now of course, it is of little consequence! :)[/li][/ul]General Comments:
I am so overwhelmed and honored at having been chosen by Princeton. I just hope that I can prove to them that they made the right choice by admitting me in the next four years. That is of course, if I decide to attend P. I’m still torn b/w Princeton and Harvard…and I would say the same for H. This is just such a big honor. I would love to attend either.
I hope to meet you all acceptees in the Fall!
And to those rejected, I can only say that I sincerely hope that you ultimately are happy at whichever place you get into. I feel so incredibly fortunate to get in…it’s just such a random process…and I don’t feel happy to see so many similarly/better qualified students rejected. Believe me, you will find your Princeton.
Good wishes, and good cheer.

[] Summer Activities: Volunteering…going to China…writing (lots and lots and lots of writing)…this past summer I was most active, attending EFL, Governor’s School, and the GCC Portland Summit
[] Essays: I personally think they were, if not absolutely terrible, then at least not the best. To give you an idea of quality, I wrote 10 application essays over two weeks of winter break. (Procrastination is my Achilles’ heel.) Although…I do think my Penn essay was my best one, except for Emory’s.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I think they were probably wonderful. I have very close relationships with my teachers, who have taught me for two years now.
[] Counselor Rec: She claimed it was great, but considering that she does not know me personally, I doubt it was anything that would stand out in the Harvard pool.

[] Country (if international applicant):

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Yale, UPenn (Wharton), Duke, WashU, Emory (scholarship full ride); Wait-listed at Harvard, Cornell; Rejected at Princeton. I have, oddly enough, not been able to access my Columbia decision on-line, so I’ll probably find that out by snail mail. :stuck_out_tongue: [/li][/ul]General Comments: Congratulations to everyone accepted!!! :)

Truthfully, in light of everything else, I’m not at all disturbed by my (very much expected) Princeton rejection. I’m still trying to absorb the shock of being accepted to so many places. Actually, I wasn’t even expecting to have a choice in colleges; I thought I’d only get into one school, maybe two or three. But five??? Unbelievable. Pending my Columbia decision, I will most likely be choosing between Penn and Yale.

ACCEPTED (engineering)
SATs - 2260 (M-800, CR-720, W-740)
Subject Tests - M2: 800; Physics: 710; USH:780
AP: Physics C Mech. (4) ; AP US History (5); AP Stats (5); Calc BC; Macro; APES; English Lit; Chemistry

EDIT: Senior Courses(Block Scheduling): 1st semester - Calc AB, Public Speaking, AP Environmental, AP Chem; 2nd semester - Calc BC, AP Macro, AP Lit, Phys Ed.

My most meaningful extra curricular was an internship with my township’s mayor where i specialized in sustainability and led the planting of seven wildflower gardens across the township. I led many peers and was truly passionate about the project’s environmental impact, as pocket lawns (which have to be maintained and result in harmful emissions) were replaced with garden that were more or less self-sustaining.

Varsity Tennis, Mock Trial, NHS VP, TKD black belt, etc.

Rec: Mayor wrote me a rec in light of the sustainability project i led.

Other Decisions:
Accepted to Princeton, CMU, UC Berkeley, U-Mich, UIUC, Rutgers
Rejected: MIT, Penn, Columbia

Strengths : Mayor’s Rec and some other magical aspect of me that appealed to the ad-coms.
Weaknesses: low SAT for P-ton, brown from New Jersey.

This acceptance was part of what will redefine my high school for years to come. Our class acceptances include: Harvard, Princeton, Penn, Cornell (2), Berkeley(2).
For our school, which is mid-sized and not amazingly competitive, our class acceptances are really gonna help put it on the map.
PM if you have questions.

Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: AA
Gender: F
Income Bracket:
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, successful girl in science

Reflection
Strengths: Very well-rounded. Excelled in sports, academics, service. Teachers/ counselors find her engaging so that it was easy for them to write her LORs.
Weaknesses: Scattered interests. Wants to major in everything.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Shocked she was accepted to all schools applied to. Could’ve saved a bunch of money on the application fees! In our opinion, she was accepted because: (1) took nothing for granted; (2) wrote and re-wrote her essays over a 3-month period. Did not stop until she thought they were perfect and were “her”; (3) has a great relationship with all of her teachers and counselors. It was actually difficult choosing which teachers to ask. They were all willing; (4) Interviews very well.; (5) Stats were in the 75% or higher range for every school she applied to; (6) attends a feeder school; (6) sent in all 14 of her apps early (before December 1).

Where you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT (EA); UPenn (likely); Columbia (likely); Duke (likely); Wellesley (likely); Northwestern, USC (Trustee Scholarship); UCLA (merit scholarship); UC Berkeley; UC Davis (Regents Scholarship). Waitlist: None. Rejections: None.

General Comments:
Wow! D has a big decision to make. She is truly in love with the vast majority of the colleges she was accepted to. Does not want to refuse any.
