Reflection
[] Strengths: Music supplements. Solid standardized test scores, essays, and recs.
[] Weaknesses: GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m sure my app went through the music department at one point or another. I guess Princeton likes jazz musicians. I think a lot of my other stats were strong enough. The only thing that could have hurt me was my GPA.
[] Where else have you been accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: Princeton, NYU, Oberlin, UMich (music), Rutgers. Rejected: Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, UPenn, Williams, Wesleyan, Northwestern.
[li] What would you have done differently?:[/ul] studied harder lol
[/li]
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: I’m absolutely elated that I was accepted to Princeton. I learned that grades aren’t everything, although every other ivy/williams/wesleyan I applied to rejected me. However, if you do what you love and work hard at it, amazing things can happen! Getting into Princeton was only a dream, but it came true.
Briefly explain why you applied to Princeton : Pretty great jazz program, amazing academics, stellar reputation, close to home, lovely campus. This was the ideal place for me.

[] Strengths: I think the overall depth of my application was a great strength. I did a lot of different things pretty well. I also have solid test scores.
[] Weaknesses: I didn’t really have one specialty thing that I was interested in. Not too many academic extracurriculars.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Look at general comments.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Applied and accepted at – MIT, Harvard, Princeton, UC Berkeley (Regents) & UCLA (nominated for Regents but decided not to apply). I have matriculated to MIT.[/ul]

General Comments:
I feel that what set me apart was that I was not an archetypal applicant. I didn’t fall into one of the preset stereotypes – athlete, research drone, leader of everything. I feel that when you fall into the game and try to be something it hurts you because you compete against all of the people from your same stereotype. I did whatever I thought was interesting and I think my application came off unique in that way. The appeal in my application was that it was different than the others; it came from a different perspective. I may be totally wrong but this is just what I have surmised from my experience.

Briefly explain why you applied to Princeton (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): I liked it when I visited and walked around the campus, it’s also a really good school.

If you guys are looking into colleges and have any questions for me feel free to message me. I will try to get back to you ASAP though I don’t really check this account much anymore.

Has anyone who’s been waitlisted here back from Princeton yet? Judging from last year’s thread, people started to find out on May 5th…

Admin: Please pin this thread up at the top of the Princeton page with the results threads from the last few years. Thanks!
