This was the only school I got deferred/rejected from back when I was applying in 2005.

To those that didn’t make the cut, please let me offer you some solace: No matter where you end up – if you keep up your ambitions, you’ll do great. If I had read these words in 2005 I probably would have said “Lol, what feel-good nonsense,” but it really is true and I think most of my peers would agree. There aren’t enough spots for qualified applicants, so there is going to be an element of luck involved.

I’ve been out of college for a couple years now, and here in the city, I’m surrounded by people who all came from a great variety of schools. Many people wind up in the same place in the end, and so if you happen to be taking a different/unexpected route to that destination, just enjoy it for what it’s worth! Where you went to school is almost an afterthought at this point in life.

Congratulations to all of you!

Looking at these results, it seems clear to me that top colleges aren’t particularly concerned with grades or test scores once they reach a certain level. It seems that they just want interesting students (for example, an interesting 2150/rank 8/250 seems to be chosen over a boring 2360/rank 3/386).
