Official Princeton University SCEA Class of 2017 Thread!

Oh my God. you guys are making me feel more than a little ■■■■■■■■ for applying to Princeton.

SAT I: 2290 - 750 CR, 740 M, 800 W
SAT II: 750 Literature, 720 French (Non-native)

If you guys are still wondering about schools asking for your latest grades

There were 2 people on CC who applied to Harvard this year, both asked for their grades, and they both got in.

I was also asked for my grades about a week and a half before my decision today. I was accepted to my EA college.

What I’m saying is that if Princeton were to request your latest grades, treat it as a good sign. It’s completely possible to still be deferred or either rejected, but it also clearly shows that Princeton has an interest in you.

Good luck on the 18th you guys, you all are great.

Do they ask YOU for your grades or your counselor?

@Dawgy

Sorry if I came across as judgmental or harsh. I’ve no doubt that your ideas were well founded and implemented. I am definitely not some kind of guardian angel waiting to judge anybody approaching the holy gates of Princeton, and I don’t think anyone else on CC is either. I wish you - and everyone else here - the best of luck in getting in. Only 59 hours to go!

Just want to make a note about grades for EA kids. I go to a very good prep school with great college counselors and regarding grades for EA applicants, our college counselors said that colleges (including Ivies) will usually ask for Senior fall grades for applicants who they feel like they need to see grades for (i.e if they want to see improvement). In other words, if you have had a very consistently strong transcript through Junior year, schools may not request Senior year grades because they’re confident that you’ve kept up your grades this year. So just because Princeton didn’t ask for your senior grades, does not mean they are not interested in you or that you’ll get deferred! Obviously it doesn’t hurt to send them but for schools like my school that don’t have final grades ready in time for EA/ED decisions, it’s not really possible…

That being said, certain colleges that REQUIRE grades might defer kids if they don’t get them. BUT I talked to my college counselor and she said that Princeton did not REQUIRE them and as of two weeks ago had not requested them from anyone at my school (we had 9 kids apply EA to Princeton). If Princeton requests fall grades, they’ll go through your counselors, not you.

^^ that makes sense. I’ve gotten straight A’s throughout high school. My quarter grades would just be the same thing, so I don’t see how it would change my application at all. I’m sure this is true for quite a few Princeton applicants.

First quarter grades were listed as optional I believe. I sent mine as soon as they were finalized but not because Princeton requested them. I just wanted to remind them of who I was.

My guidance counselor mentioned Friday that the deferral acceptance rate was equivalent to the RD acceptance rate, so 8.5%. I couldn’t find proof of that anywhere on the internet, though. Do any of you extremely intelligent and presumably gorgeous individuals have any knowledge about this?

I’ve looked, but I have no idea. :|

Honestly, I’m going to interpret a deferral basically like I would a rejection. Odds are that if they like me enough to accept me, they’ll accept me now. What I’m hoping, though, is that Princeton becomes more like Stanford this year, and mainly gives acceptances and rejections. The thought of a deferral and waiting another four months to know whether I’m in just makes me miserable.

Looking at other EA/ED result threads, there seem to be a lot of deferrals! I notice more deferrals than acceptances/rejections. But things are not always as they seem. I hope Princeton doesn’t defer a lot of people. I will also take a deferral as a rejection. Honestly, I think I might rather be rejected than deferred. To me, a deferral is just like a prolonged rejection. I’m not the most competitive applicant, so if they don’t want me now, they certainly won’t want me with all the amazing RD applicants they have to choose from. :/

Since they defer about half of early action applicants, they’re basically delaying rejection. So, to me, deferral=rejection.

I do think that if deferred, we have an advantage in the RD pool because we already demonstrated that Princeton is our first choice. That’s my logic, at least.

I would sooo much rather be rejected than deferred. Sadly, I don’t think they reject a lot of SCEA legacy applicants. At least according to my interviewer, that basically never happens. So I’ll probably be kept waiting for a rejection until April.

I agree that SCEA applicants probably have a very narrow advantage, though - not important enough to really matter, but if everything else is equal, they probably would go with someone who displayed greater interest.

how about SCEA first generation students? Hopefully they won’t want to instill any hope in my never went to college parents, so they’ll just reject me. haha

Why would you guys want to be rejected instead of deferred?? If you’re deferred you still have a chance and can improve your chances by sending in an update letter expressing continued interest and also semester grades and any other updates.

I’ll rephrase that:

If I’m going to be rejected, I want to be rejected now, not in April. Because I view a deferral as a rejection, especially because I’m a legacy, I would rather be rejected than deferred. But that’s working under the assumption that I wouldn’t be accepted in April.

Hey guys. Princeton has an admitted students portal: www.princeton.edu/admitted. Can any of you guys log in yet, or am I just freaking out again for no reason.

^^same as MissxSilverwing

haha I tried that Und3rC0ver. I couldn’t get in. ----> confirmed my expected rejection.

But the sight probably isn’t activated yet with the EA acceptances. I’m sure I’m overreacting.

@guacamole you ARE overreacting. I couldn’t sign in either.

actually a friend of mine has been deferred for Standford
