Official Private School Transfer Thread

Howdy. This is the thread where we mingle and discuss transferring to private schools. Post your stats, your first choice, why you're applying, etc. When admission decisions come around, we'll hopefully get to know one another and let each other know where we get in!

--Cheers,

Yale and Brown take interesting students, so I hope my high school to college turnaround impresses them. Stanford is local, and they take a few students from my college each year. I think I have the stats for Cornell. Harvard's always a longshot, maybe all the overacheivers applying differentiate someone like me. All these schools have good philosophy departments, too. I think colleges like these respect and to some degree cater to late-bloomers and unique student stories. Which is why I think they take so many older applicants. All of these schools hold in high regard students that can diversify and add something new to the college campus that would benefit the rest of the campus. I tried to emphasize that in my app.

Anywhos, I'm expecting rejections from all these schools so I'm not getting my hopes up.

--Cheers,

Hm...im not real big on posting stats..but im bored so here goes..

junior transfer (54 credits)

High school/SAT's
hahaha they don't count for me since I'm old and graduated from hs 5 years ago
(not so good anyway)

im really hoping for georgetown..i won't get in at bc because i don't have any theology credits yet..so..oops. seton hall is an "ok" school..my safety fall back plan. just nice to have in the back pocket. i think my essays are pretty strong..personal experiences about a needle stick incident i underwent while working at jhh (not fun) and the other is a creative third person narrative about the impact the kids at www.boggycreek.org (ok ok im done i swear) have had on me..we'llllll see how it goes..

anyone know if USC has a transfer for Spring? I can't find it on their website, but i emailed them.

I am applying to Stanford, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Brown, and nearly every UCs. I refrained myself from applying to anything above Stanford (waste of money)

"unusual" life story

some EC's (weak ones)

some athletics- not enough to get recruited, but I could probably walk on to my sport at the smaller schools and maybe Brown.

::screech:: 2.9 HS gpa (ties into my life-story thing, but I don't want to get into it)

Glowing recs from a prof who's leaving to take a tenure-track job at Hah-vahd. Glow recs from TA's. Glowing recs from HS guidance lady (saying how I've turned things around).

Too many recs are not good.

went to different schools -- all got what they asked for ;)

Applying to Notre Dame only.

4.0 at U of Illinois
Some good ec's
top 6% in HS
29 ACT
rejected last year.
have met their first year of studies plan, which is essential to getting admitted according to them.

maize and blue, don't apply to ND just to **** someone off, you might take the spot of someone who truly wants to attend.

Applying to USC as a sophomore.

Stats:

HS GPA: 4.6 weighted, 3.9x weighted
SATS: 1270 :/
Great EC's and leadership
Extensive work experience

College GPA: 3.21 :'( Honors after one semester
I have a compelling story justifying my grades though.
Delta Chi Frat
Tennis
Work nearly 40 hrs/wk

Awesome essay IMO.

Anyways, i was rejected from USC last yr and im not feeling to good this time around either. My less than stellar GPA i recieved this past fall semester was very disappointing. Two A-'s, a B, and a B-, 3 of the 4 were honors, and I took the most rigorous classes available, so I hope that somewhat neutralizes it. Anyways, I am certain my GPA will be AT LEAST a 3.7 this spring semester. I am kicking ass with straight A's so far :)

and btw, damn you guys make me feel retarded. You guys have godly SAT scores and very respectable GPA's. Is there anyone who is less than perfect on this board!!??

hahaha USC..you'll notice I didn't post ANYTHING about high school..thank god I graduated in 2000 (yes yes I'm old) and colleges don't require SAT/HS information if you have been out for 5 or more years. IF they did..yeah..uhh..I'd be screwed..i guess you could say I turned my life around a bit, and it's clearly demonstrated in academics.. :D

Pfft...

HS grades are over-rated anyway.

I had a 2.9 WEIGHTED hs gpa. I think it was like 2.6 unweighted. That includes failing (eg an E for the semester no credit) algebra two in tenth grade. In retrospect I probably should have done my homework or gone to class.

At least my guidance people kept putting me in tons of AP classes so at least I have strength of classes going for me!

I'm currently a freshman at Tulane. I'm applying to Brown (#1), Pomona (#2), Oberlin, Yale (tied # 3) then in no paticular order, Tufts, Vassar, Upenn, Swarthmore, Puget Sound, WashU
