There are 4 QAS’s a year when the May US and May International tests are different, and 5 QAS’s per year when the May Sunday Test is different again. Internationals and Sunday test-takers can get QAS only in May.
@mathyone
There are 4 PSAT tests “out there”: PSAT Practice Test 1, PSAT Practice Test 2; October 14, 2015 and October 28, 2015. Please see my post on the previous page for who gets these and how.
OK, where did you get copies of both Oct 2015 tests? Shouldn’t that be available to all students, not just paying clients?
My kid took one of the Oct 2015 tests, and I asked her if she could use her copy to study from and she doesn’t think they gave her a copy of the exam. Where/when would she have gotten a copy?
After the PSAT is administered, the test booklets remain in the school with the counselor. Only the answer sheets are sent to CB to be graded. When the score reports come out in December, the college counselor is supposed to return the original test booklet (with the student’s own pencil markings) back to the student together with the score report and hopefully some words of wisdom about what to do next. The student is not supposed to get a blank test booklet but the very same booklet used by that individual during the exam. Some counselors who have extra blank booklets left over may also distribute these.
This year the score reports came out in January and students got back their booklets from college counselors sometime in January. You can ask the counselor at your school whether this happened.
It was also possible to access the questions online from student accounts as soon as the score reports were posted online. There were instructions with a code on the PSAT score report allowing this access.
I get PSAT booklets from students who took the test. Even before the physical booklets were available, students gave me access to their accounts so I could review what questions they got right and wrong. This is something parents and friends can also do. However, I agree it would be fairer for CB to post the administered PSAT’s online. I am pretty sure this will happen with PSAT Practice Test #2 in the near future. If you or your child is registered to sit the test in October, he or she should get a paper copy from the counselor at the beginning of school.
Hmm, I don’t recall any paper copy of the exam coming home. Last year our kids were simply told to get their scores online and my kid says there was no meeting with the GC about PSATs and she never saw her test booklet. This agrees with my recollection and also there is no mention of such meetings in my emails or the school newsletter so I’m not sure when or how she would have gotten her test booklet back. It sounds like she could see the questions online? but it would be tedious to copy them all down and reconstruct the exam.
@mathyone
If the GC does not give back the PSAT booklets, the GC is not following CB protocol. You paid for the test. Part of the service is getting your booklet back. You should complain to the GC and also to CB.
You will note that CB allows the GC’s to distribute unused PSAT booklets after the score reports have come out, so this is another source of test booklets.
Thanks, well I’ll see what we can do. Really the old test is not the best practice since she’s already seen it, but she did #1 before taking that test and we don’t have any others.
@VANURSEPRAC Do you mean the GC won’t return the booklets together with the score reports in December? Why not? This goes against the instructions in the PSAT supervisor manual I linked above. You should show the instructions to the GC and if he or she still refuses to give back the booklets, complain to the GC’s supervisor and to CB. It could be more effective if several parents and students complain together.
My understanding was that @VANURSEPRAC meant the the GC won’t return the October 19, 2016 Official PSAT booklets in December together with the PSAT score reports, not to the PSAT Official Practice Test 2 booklets now available on the CB website in pdf. The GC does not have to “give back” the PSAT Official Practice Test 2 booklets.
