Since the other QB thread is getting to big, and is too off topic, this one is purely for the stats of people who were finalists, and whether or not they were matched.

Format credits go to Paro, with a few edits.

And once again, congratulations to everyone who got matched!
For those of us who opted out, or who didn't get matched, RD is coming our way! BRACE YOURSELVES!

Congrats to everyone matched and good luck to everyone applying RD!

Congrats to you on being matched with Haverford. Thanks for your vote of confidence in those of us who were deferred! The people on the QB threads have been so kind.

Thanks, hjnmom! I was incredibly excited when I got my Match call from Haverford yesterday! My mom cried and I think danced when I got the news!

But to you RD guys/gals with AMAZING stats, y’all probably didn’t get Matched because of finances. RD is going to be great for my CC buddies! :P

“But to you RD guys/gals with AMAZING stats, y’all probably didn’t get Matched because of finances.”

So the million dollar question is, will some people with outstanding academic achievements still be pushed aside during RD because they are the “wealthiest low income kids”? It’s a realistic paranoid worry one might have about QB in general – that lack of income trumps achievement when adcoms reach into the QB pile, even during RD.

I think the QB statistics of 60% overall match rate should give you some confidence that this is not the case. They are looking at the complete package in RD. I don’t think there is a “separate QB pile” at that point. If anything, I believe the QB kids may be given more attention because at this point, the Adcoms know them well and have been reviewing their files for over 6 months.

But for argument’s sake – and that is all this is – how do we know that the 40% who were NOT taken via match or RD were not exclusively the ones who were at the higher end of QB’s earning scale ($40k to $60k)? And as to a separate QB pile, that term comes from either Williams, Amherst or both (can’t remember for sure) who referred to such a pile when they were quoted on the QB website.

I actually agree with this line of thought. I think many, if not most, were deferred because of 40-60k income cut-offs. I just don’t believe that this will work against you in the RD round - evidenced by examples of unmatched finalists being contacted and strongly encouraged to apply ED and RD.

Then that separate pile is a good thing that gives you a leg up over someone who’s not on it - this evidenced by Amherst’s Admission Director’s statement that being a finalist gives you a leg up like being an athlete or legacy would.

First of all, let me say that a compilation like this is very awesome and I hope it helps the classes after 2009’s get Match Scholarships. Also, for any parents who read this. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. Yes. Any kid who has even one parent behind them in the Dante’s Inferno that is the American college admissions process is one lucky kid. Please however, realize that test scores are not everything. High scores are great, but X University will still reject a 2400. Again, I’m no expert, but I think a student with real passion in their activities can get whatever grade and still get in. I mean think about it:

Number of kids who make 600 and above on math: A million billion
Number of kids who started a car wash to fund a new book club that helped teach at-risk children how to read: 1 (And not me)

Plus, I think it’s true that after about 600 and up it’s all the same to admissions officers?

And congratulations!!! Dude, everyone’s going to be accepted RD. I’m so sure of it. :DDDD
