It's been about one year! Wow, how time flies.

The QuestBridge National College Match helps outstanding low-income high school seniors gain admission and full four-year scholarships to some of the nation's most selective colleges.

If you are a student who has achieved academic excellence in the face of economic challenges, we encourage you to apply to the National College Match. You may be concerned about tuition costs, but QuestBridge's partner colleges offer generous financial aid packages that cover 100% of demonstrated financial need, making them very affordable for low-income students.

While I was not matched during the 2009 cycle, I was very grateful to hear from many of the QuestBridge partner colleges. QuestBridge is a great program which was the key to many of the doors of opportunities it helped to open. I wish all the best of luck for this upcoming cycle.

Can’t wait! How would y’all recommend getting teacher recommendations?? I’ll only have one month of school before they’re due – should I notify my Jr. teachers by the end of this school year?

Ya, that’s what I’m trying to do, especially since the teachers I had this year are AP teachers and they seem to like me. If you think they won’t write you a good one or something else…well you know, but if you had good relations and stuff, go for it definitely before they forget how great you are!

So, I kinda missed this year’s app date. I wasn’t quite sure about when I was supposed to apply. If I’m a junior this school year, then I apply next year, right? Or was I supposed to apply during my junior year? I’m a bit confused.

You haven’t missed the application date for the National College Match. The National College Match application date will be on or around September 30; you will be a senior. What you missed was the deadline for the College Prep Scholarship.

Id just like to let to new team of QB applicants to know that I am a member of the class of 2014 at Stanford University, where I was a QuestBridge Match. Feel free to ask questions here or through PM, and I’ll answer them if I can.

Just to clarify, that September 30th date applicannot mentioned is the College Match due date. The application will become available sometime in August. It is a great idea to ask teachers now for recommendations.

I’ve read the website up and down but I’m getting conflicting things on a few items.

Let me give you the situation I’m in,

Let’s say I become a finalist and rank only 1 college, MIT(Which is non-binding), and then stop there in terms of college match. The only reason the FAQ gives me for not applying other schools EA is because it will break THEIR agreements.

So can I become a finalist, apply to 1-3 non-binding colleges through the college match, then apply EA to other places with the title of Questbridge finalist? I want to apply MIT through college match and then Caltech/University of Chicago/University of Illinois Urbana Champaign EA, all non-binding and non-restrictive.

Thanks in advance for answering my question.

And in that instance is it possible to apply EA to any college I’d like?

Sorry for being difficult it’s just that if I do get into MIT/Caltech I would LOVE to go but in the instance that I don’t get in I’d still like to apply to University of Chicago/UIUC early so that I have my options.

Yes, in that instance you could apply EA to any college you’d like. Don’t forget that you can apply RD to the schools you listed, if you choose QuestBridge.

Thanks again Applicannot, if you don’t mind I’ll list my plan and you could say anything on the practicality?

Apply for Questbridge

Have my EA applications ready for MIT/Caltech/UIUC/UC

Either become a finalist or not(if averages are good indicators there is a decent chance)

List no colleges in the college match process.

Allow early action decisions to roll around

Depending on how EA turned out use Questbridge for RD

I am not 100% sure you can use your QB application for RD if you don’t rank any colleges for the Match, but if that is feasible, I don’t see anything wrong with your plan.

I went back and thought about it and decided it was better to do everything through QB. When I factored in application costs and such it’s just better to work on being a finalist and getting matched through their process.

Well, you can get most application fees waived. If you got your SAT test fee waived, the CollegeBoard will also provide you with four application fee waivers. Additionally, you can get unlimited fee waivers through the NACAC. Some colleges will allow you to write a letter to request a fee waiver. I also got AP exam, SAT, ACT, Subject Test, and transcript fees waived.

Is my understanding that we are essentially applying to these universities through Questbridge, but the universities choose which applicants become finalists/matched students?

You can submit your QB app to partner colleges for RD even if you don’t rank any. I think there was a form where you stated that you wouldn’t be participating in the Match process after finding out finalist status.
