Decision: Accepted!

Stats:
SAT:760M 800V 760Wr
SAT IIs: 800 Hist, 760 Bio
GPA: 4.7
Rank: 2/455
Other stats: Natl Merit Finalist, 8 AP's

Essays: Excellent I think. My parents would read them when I finished and give me suggestions, and I would usually start all over again. Finally I found some themes I liked. I'm a writer (poetry and short stories), so that helped.
Teacher Recs: excellent, my teachers really like me.
Counselor Rec: Don't know, never saw it.
Hook (if any): Debate Team captain; recently presented a Bill to the State Legislature; Bicen Team winner; dual-nationality (aussie).

Location/Person:
State or Country: Fairfield Co, CT
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Other Factors: My interview was only so-so I thought. My Columbia interview was much better (got accepted there also).

General Comments: I am thrilled to be accepted, even though I can't see any way at all that I can go, given the outrageous cost and the fact that I have been offered no aid. But it's a thrill to know that you're that good.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:
SAT:2330 (800M, 800CR, 730 WR)

Subjective:
Essays: decent
Teacher Recs: top few of career ish
Counselor Rec: mediocre...big class
Hook (if any): Sent them Econ work I did that econ professor said was publishable & far more advanced than that of any undergrad she ever taught at USC, NYU, etc. But I didn't send this until Mar 9 (I wasn't done until then), so maybe they didn't get to it - or they did and rejected me anyway.

Location/Person:
State or Country: CA, USA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: M

Other Factors:
General Comments: Congratulations everybody! Good luck to the rest of schools you're waiting for.

hmm...is it just me, or do a lot of these acceptances seem to be male?

damn the overeager female applicant pool.

damn the overeager female applicant pool.

[/QUOTE]

You're right misspicaroon! I looked though the thread again and it seems the male accepted students outnumber the females about 2:1 (on CC, that is), though I could be wrong cause I'm delirious and have trouble focusing enough to even count.

Has Brown published admissions statistics for this year? I'm curious about the M:F ratio of the accepted students (and ultimately, the matriculating students).

lewisloftus...

Your conclusions are based on a very small sample of the applicant pool. My daughter was accepted. Overall -- according to their website -- Brown is currently 54% female...

*Decision:Accepted! w/PLME *

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT:1850; 640V; 640M; 570W

[] Rank:1/122
[] Other stats:4.0 from local community college taking courses since freshman year. Also, studied at three other colleges including Oxford.(Not a transfer student)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays:Amazing! I worked on it for about 3 months. It talked about my struggle to recieve an education, while pulling myself out of the ghettos of Phildelphia. PLME essay wrote about my experience with a person whom had trecher collins and how that inflenced me to become a surgeon. It was 5 pages but got me in none the less.
[] Teacher Recs:Very Good not fantastic or anything but I have strong relationships with my teachers and it showed in their recs.
[] Counselor Rec:Amazing! I made it my mission in 9th grade to talk to my counsler at least once a day. We have an extreamly strong realtionship which def. came out in her rec.
[] Hook (if any):From the projects...
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country:Philadelphia
[] School Type:Public
[] Ethnicity:African-American
[li] Gender:Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Highly active! Three Varsity sports since 9th grade, Captin of two, all public in one. President of three school clubs. PSTV (local tv station) reporter. Have interviewed top gov. officials. Insane list of other activities, Basically no sleep. Have studied at places like Oxford on full scholarship. **
**General Comments: Surprised that I got in but attribute it to my killer essays and Interview(the interviewer now comes to church with me)

My god, I feel like my admission was a mistake. You all are more impressive than I am.

IBleedDevilRed, I want to meet you. You're truly impressive. How'd you get to study at Oxford?

I was waitlisted...it's soo lame!! I hate this waiting game!

tchiem,

May I suggest that you pick the school that you think will bring out the best in you!

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: VA, USA
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female

[/ul]Other Factors: Somehow the Part II online (the essays) and the counselor's letter got lost or never reached there...because I got a letter in February about needing to send them in. I re-sent them, and had a 10-minute phone interview, but I guess it wasn't enough. Maybe that had something to do with it.

General Comments: Well, I got this one a couple hours after I got accepted to Yale...and it was just so funny to my poor stressed-out mind that I burst out laughing. I also got into Princeton today...so I don't think I'll be sending in that card. Bye-bye, Brown--no hard feelings (goes and takes letter out to backyard to watch it burn in orange and black smoke under a blue and white sky)

[] Counselor Rec: Ditto, but she seems to like me.
[] Hook (if any): None, really. Passionate with a broad range of nerdy interests? Haha, beats me. I think I just showed a lot of interest in Brown in my application.
