IntRelations09 - “…snobby, narrow-minded nerds that apply to GW”

Funny thing is that your comment is the most “narrow-minded” of all. Maybe you will choose another school!

schmohawk- You’re so right!! What is it with people who have to put down a school that they spent money applying to!! Just makes you one look insecure and small. If you were waitlisted or rejected move on, ior try to do something about it instead of trying to find fault in the adm process. f you believe the school is made up of snobs, then you don’t belong at GW! Everyone finds their own “niche”.
Congrats to all who were accepted!!

ItRelations: agree with MsBC, first of all let me correct you since you don’t even know the name of the school: Elliott School of International Affairs
ont Int’l relations, which leads me to think you are not that informed.
Second, narrow-mindedness and GW don’t go together. I think you need to go somewhere else, and I’m sorry GW made a mistake with you in giving you a spot, please release it to someone who wants to go badly, and truly deserves GW.

going to attend? Not sure. Deciding between GW and SMU. It depends on whether I receive a scholarship.

There was a question in the GW Common App supplement “What other universities are you applying to?” and I decided to be honest and listed all colleges I applied to, which are about 21-3(I don’t remember the exact number).

My stats: SAT 2070, top 10%, great recs, many & various EC’s, community service, work experience, brilliant essays (those who read them the said so; these were my favorite essays) 2150 SAT II…

My question is do you think that the enourmous list of universities I wrote in the supplement could be the reason for my being “wastelisted”?

Could be. GW wants students that want them. With the large number of schools you applied to (I’m reading the above at 21-3 - meaning 21-30?) which they may have figured that they had a very low chance of getting you to enroll. The good news is that you were waitlisted which means they would like you to come if space opens. The ball is now in your court…if GW is your first choice, I would make that very clear in the next month! Good luck.

[] Essays: My general one for all common Apps was pretty Stellar, imo. I focused on my unique background (Iranian/Irish) and how that has given me a unique outlook on the world and so on. This was Pre-obama, tho he sort of stole my thunder. My other essays were fine.
[] Teacher Recs: Flattering, tho I dont have anything to compare them too
[] Counselor Rec: General (said a lot of stuff already on my app such as what I am involved in) by it was pretty praiseful and I saw what boxes she checked and they were “One of the besT” for nearly all.

Tho- I never really showed any interest above and beyond applying. I never did an interview or a formal college tour (I went there on my own and sort of hung out). I never really called them or anything or even applied to the honor’s college (the essays were too much work), tho looking at other ppl’s apps I def see a case of Tufts Syndrome.
