Official rd decisions - class of 2013

Congrats Modadunn! I was so rooting for your son!

Modadunn, yes! Actually, today feels like a week… I feel like so much has happened. It’s like my life just took another turn on its path - and I’m moving forward. It’s insane.

Has your son decided on a school?

Got rejected as I suspected. It hurts to accept. I feel like my three years of work went down the drain. Well, I guess I have to accept the fact and have to choose between BU,BC, HC or WPI, but to be honest, if I would get accepted, i would just leave all of those schools behind and would go to Tufts even if they didn’t give me enough Fin Aid, even if I had to loan like million bucks. But I guess I am gonna give it another shot as transfer student and this time I am gonna take the ACT instead of ****ing SAT. I hate SAT soo much. It ruined my life. If any junior is reading this thread I request you to STAY THE HELL OUT OF SAT and TAKE THE ACT. (If you want to get into your dream school)

for S:

[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations/Scholarships,etc: I have a tough decision to make between Tufts and Wesleyan, but I’m leaning towards Wesleyan. Any thoughts??

I think that Wesleyan is an excellent school, and if you happen to have a strong preference for a small LAC, I would understand picking it over Tufts. Otherwise, I would favor Tufts. Wesleyan is extremely quirky and is in a not-very-attractive town. Now I know that Medford is nothing to get excited about, but the proximity to Boston and Cambridge is terrific. I also think that Tufts offers a very unique feature: the relatively small university. While not as intimate as a small LAC, the potential for strong relationships with professors is tremendous for a university, and the focus has always been about the undergrads. There is just more going on at Tufts and in the surrounding area than there is at Wesleyan and its environs. But honestly, it’s a win/win for you. Good luck whatever you choose!

Stephansawesome:

I think in trying to decide between two academically comparable universities, the “extra factors” come in to play more and more. Once you have established that Wes and Tufts have what you want/need academically, I would look at things such as location, campus life, etc. For you, I would definitely check out the theater and music departments at both schools, considering your long time interests in both areas. When my D was down to her final two choices, the offerings, quality and size of the music department was the deal maker/breaker.

And, if you can, try to visit both schools.

Good Luck.

shiiiit waitlisted at my legacy school. stats on the u chicago forum.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I cried for a bit after getting this wait-list, but luckily my tears were washed away with a Cornell acceptance. Oh well, I would have had to make a tough decision if I was accepted here anyway…

I’m confused. How do people rate what their teacher recommendation looked like if it goes directly to the common application or to the college?

My son was waitlisted at Tufts, rejected at the Ivies. We thought he would get into Tufts based on their student profile… but some of the waitlist decisions posted above make me think that this year’s average accepted student at Tufts was stronger than previous years.

To me one of the big unknowns is that we don’t know what the teacher recommendations looked like…

So how does everyone else rank their teacher evaluation?

He did get into Bucknell with merit scholarship… but still left with $40K in cost a year and Northeastern merit scholarship, still left with $30K in cost a year. I guess I thought based on doing that well at selective schools that he stood a decent shot at next tier up, which I thought included Tufts.

^ Some teachers let you read them. One of mine did (in March… obviously after she had already sent them in).

VERY EXCITED. Congratulations to everyone!

Thanks the.pfenix, but hopefully I will see you next year.

BTW, do transfer students get same Fin.Aid as freshmen students?

@ BookMama-- Tufts, Northeastern and Bucknell – all of these universities are tier 1. Tufts ranks 28, Bucknell ranks #30(among liberal arts colleges) and NEU #96. So, basically they are almost the same and as my teacher told me today it really doesn’t matter where one gets his/her undergrad. from , what really matters is where he/she gets their Grad degree from. So, tell your son to apply to Harvard/ any ivy for his grad.degree…

Or he can always apply to Tufts as transfer student. That’s what I am going to do.
