sowmit: Tufts and Bucknell are both excellent schools, although Bucknell is smaller, in a remote location, not as well known and easier to get into. But Northeastern? It’s an okay school, but by no means is it in the same league as Tufts; it’s not in the same universe. And I don’t know anyone who considers it a “Tier 1.”

WCASParent-- I know.I am trying to decide between BU, BC, HolyCross and WPI, but it depends on the Fin Aid. I just got my Fin Aid Package from WPI and they are giving me 153k for 4 years. I will still have to borrow about 30k if I want to go there. Let’s see what the other schools are gonna give me.

TitusAndronicus-- I had the same idea about Tufts and NEU’sranking, but stupid US news ranks Tufts, Bucknell and Northeastern as “Tier 1”. I never heard about Bucknell before. More surprisingly, US news gives WPI(71) a higher rank than Northeastern (96). But the thing that shocked me the most was was to see about 150+ schools as “tier 1” schools with the same rank as Harvard, MIT, Brown, Princeton, Tufts, BC and with other elite schools.

WCASParent: its no big deal i guess i got accepted at u chicago, northwestern, and cornell so its ok. i still wish i got into my legacy school though.

^ Just wanted to drop by and say that it really doesn’t matter where you go o get your undergrad degree from, all it matters is where you grad degree from. My supervisor who is a genius (a least I think so) got his undergrad from Umass Amherst and now he is off to MIT to get his Masters (in mechanical engineering)

USNews’ ranking algorithm is very questionable.

It was made to gouge kids going through puberty out of their $15 bucks, whom also happen to be the only people who read/care about it, so…

Does Tufts send out snail mail notifications as well as on line decisions? Or is it all online?

snail mail too.

have all the snail mail notices been received?

Not here yet, but we are in California. It will probably arrive today.

Thanks, WCASParent and CollegeMom08! I’m planning on going to both WesFest and Tufts’ open house, so ultimately I’m planning on basing my decision on these visits, and whether I can imagine myself attending each school.

**Decision: ACCEPTED **

(say whaaa!!! - is the excessive amount of exclamation marks a clear enough indicator of my excitement? ;))

Basic premise: how the close-knit relationship yet distinctly different and distinguishing (yay for alliteration!) characteristics between my twin brother and me has allowed me to appreciate diversity of thought, culture, etc. This mentality ignited my passion for social justice.
- Optional essay #7 (seventeen minutes ago…): as the story develops the protagonist’s imaginary companion and one true confidant, Reyna, is swept away by ocean undertow. Ultimately, this symbolizes the protagonist’s growth because she is no longer dependant on Reyna to fulfill a tutelary role. So, she lets her go.

[/ul]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations/Scholarships,etc: wow, WOW! I am ECSTATIC to say the least. I’ve been suppressing my complete and utter infatuation with Tufts for the last six months in preparation for the overwhelming likelihood of disappointment. And now it is incredibly difficult to contain my excitement! Congratulations to all who got in (feel free to message me!!) And I wish the BEST of luck to those who received less fortunate news!

Denied but accepted at 6 other great places so not disappointed at all…had never looked at it anyhow…

Just to throw it out there – I got accepted to Tufts with an SAT score of 1950/1300. I’m not a minority, I do not have extenuating circumstances (i.e. low income, family troubles), but I wrote damn good essays and proved myself in my grades. I looked at the Tufts mean SAT score and become completely discouraged from applying, but my case just goes to prove that among the elite private universities out there I believe that Tufts provides the MOST holistic review of your application. You’re not just defined by a set of numbers to them, you’re a person. (This post is intended to provide any degree of consolation to the members of the high school class of 2010 who are nervous about entering this whole college process!)

@ la estrella
I’m on the same boat ^^

I love “damn good essays” and the people that write them.

Same here la estralla, I just decided to give it all in my essays cause in december, that is the only thing I had left which i could control.

I still cant believe I got accepted into Tufts, I still frequently check the letter at TAMS to see that the first word is Congratulations and not Sorry.

I can’t wait for Tufts, it is my TOP Choice

DanAdmiss@Tufts: I just love your attitude on this process!

Though I was accepted to Tufts (I swear it was because of my essays, they were VERY me. They focused on my unique cultural background and how that made me… different, we’ll say. Yeah, different. Sure Oh, and I thought my Seventeen Minutes Ago essay was one of the best college essay I’d written. What an AMAZING prompt. Props to Tufts on that one) I probably won’t matriculate. But I have utmost respect for this school. Crafting my Tufts application was a fun process in and of itself!

Last summer, not really knowing anything about Tufts, my daughter read the prompts from last year on the admissions website. There was one about “Guerrillaz or Gorillaz” (I think). Her response was, “any college that asks that as a prompt is the college for me.”
Now she’s admitted :)

I wrote that prompt! Glad she liked it!

Hey,

This is a finaid question, I just got it in the mail.
If my assets have gone down by almost if not more than a half since I turned in my finaid info can I appeal the finaid award?
