Official RD Decisions

I've been on spring break....I got my acceptance letter today:). Congrats to everyone who got in! Good luck to everyone on the waitlist.

Accepted! - accounting major.

730m 670v = 1400. 3.8+ish UW, 4.71w. real good rec's, but average EC's. few 710ish SAT II's. grades improved from junior mid-year to senior mid-year a bit (and harder classes)

guess i'm the bottom of the class '09! (well still deciding between Wake which is gonna cost me alot, or JMU which is much cheaper ^^ )

emisbdn- When did you find out your final decision on the waitlist? Did you enroll at another school and then have to withdraw it? Any information you can give me would be much appreciated

Thanks

its is a bit annoying. i never got anything from wfu, ended up calling them on friday, and then i talked to the asistant director of admissions, he said the letters were sent out on friday. But he told me my decision online. I was accepted. Still havent received anything in the mail, he said if you dont on monday call again, and we'll resend the letter.

There's one thing that I find controversial about WFU, the lack of minority presence. Could some one please elaborate on this please, like how are minority students treated there because I'm Asian :). thanks

emisbdn, since you got off the wait list, what were your stats last year and how many wait listers did they actually admit?

I talked with people in admissions about some of the no contact issues just a few days ago actually and what they told me made sense. The biggest issue for them this year was the fact that their office was the guinea pig office on campus to roll out the new database system the campus will be using. Apparently, it was not quite as smooth a transition as they were hoping it would be. This included generating name lists to send additional information, emails, etc to the applicants. The same was true for some of the issues with completing out applications, "missing materials", etc. From what they told me, their priority honestly, with all of the glitches that come from rolling out a new database, was making sure that they got the letters out on time to the students.

Bottom line...Wake Forest is the same school that you, your son, or your daughter was looking at before, during, and after you applied. Of course it would have been great to get emails, school catalogues, letters, etc. I know that I was in your same position many years back and it was nice to get something from all of the schools. Now that letters have gone out...there will be PLENTY of contact, mailings, etc. I am sure that Wake Forest and other schools at which you have received acceptances will show you how well they can take care of a student coming in as a freshman now that they can actually focus on that a bit more. Just enjoy the ride now and good luck with decisions.

Have enjoyed reading your comments. We share some common ground: our son has been admitted to Bucknell and Wake Forest. You have a son at Bucknell and one admitted to Wake.

Ultimately, it is our son's decision on where to go. But, what thoughts do you have for us (him)? We are in Seattle so, like with you, either choice invloves some significant change is geography (which we all think is good). In jest I could suggest that the schools are very similar with the major difference being that one is located in PA and filled with northeast preppies and the other is in NC filled with southeast preppies. In truth I suspect that the bulk of students at either school are bright, thoughtful, and fun to be around.

We visited Wake and my son loved the campus and the feeling he got from the students and administration. Not yet been to Bucknell (he will visit later this month), but we lived in the northeast for a while in Hanover, NH so he knows what it's like to live in a rural college town in that part of the country. My son is a pretty serious student and is a runner. He's a social kid but makes his friends one at a time; I don't think he will look to join a frat. Loves live music, but not a musician like yours! And he is a self-reliant kid so does not need a lot of administrative hand-holding.

I think he could be happy at either place. Any insight you have would be appreciated. Pros/cons of either school? Thanks for your help. Best of luck getting your second on into school. And thanks for sending Joe Ely/Townes van Zandt/Buth Hancock/Stevie Ray/Tom Russell our way! We'll even give Texas partial credit for Steve Earle...

Wake is more like my college experience, I'm a UVA alum. It's slightly larger than Bucknell, just a tad though. There is the southern vs northern climate, but being from Seattle that is probably less of an issue. Both have pretty campuses.

A big difference is that Wake is in Winston-Salem, and Bucknell is in Lewisbrug. Lewisburg only has about 30,000 people if that. It is also trickier to fly in and out. You must take a hop over to Harrisburg first. They have shuttles that run, but it is not as convenient as a larger town. There is plenty to do on campus, but some kids are terrified of being stuck in the boonies.

Frat-wise, as I do not have a student at Wake I can't speak to their Greek culture, although I've seen posts that "lounge crawling" is quite popular. :) Bucknell rushes sophomore year. There are kids, like my son, that do not see themselves pledging. He's more into the live music scene and such.

I wouldn't categorize either school has "hand holders" but Bucknell's administration is very responsive. Again, nothing to compare it to at Wake. PM me if your son would like to contact mine.

And son thinks Stevie Ray is a fair trade for Nirvana. ;)

What would you all say my chances are of being accepted or waitlisted with a 3.5 uw/4.0 w and 1490. Average SAT II's in the low 700s good/average everything else. I didnt get into my top 2 schools, so Im pretty much banking on Wake, not sleeping too easy.

i'd say you have a good chance of being accepted, atleast waitlisted. you're about even with me, i have little higher gpa, you have higher sat's... and i was accepted.

i agree, at least waitlisted.

Hey, all. If I remember correctly, I got my acceptance letter around May 15, some time before AP exams. I have the letter with me but it's in a box and I'm about to fall asleep. My stats weren't particularly awesome. Think SAT median -100, 3.5 GPA, 4.5 QGPA (or so), a bunch of clubs, 6 or 7 APs, letter from employer (at Wake School of Medicine), English teacher. I then got another letter from an English professor at Wake (I might take him next year) who did my Bar Mitzvah. The thing that you have to do if on the waitlist and want to get in, is write them an honest letter putting your case forward (if your app didn't do so). The beauty of letters cannot be overstated. They are objective (if from others) and they help the committee get to know you better. They'll also take all the letters you send them, a reasonable number, don't send them another 4 letters.

Last year I applied to a some ivy leagues and Wake. Needless to say, ivies turned ndbisme down, Wake turned ndbisme down temporarily.

4.2 W, 1370 (730 V, 640 M), SAT II: 690 Lit, 750 Writing, 650 Math IC, AP Psych: 5, in the IB program (take all IB courses).. white female from New Jersey. :)

Accepted... probably not going
Other schools I'm considering (that I got accepted to):
Hamilton, Dickinson, Davidson waitlist

STILL haven't heard.

i'm so getting worried.

did no1 get rejected? lol

central nj
1470 , 780, 700, 740

uhh top 15%, decent ecs and decent recs.

im going.

I finally got my acceptance and financial aid today! I had to call over the weekend. Don't worry, BBDarlin05, Wake Forest had some kind of a huge mess in mailing out decisions. They had to remail some, so many people have yet to get them...

Anyway,
Decision: Accepted

We haven't seen any financial aid here.

ps..I forgot to say congrats!

Thanks! My financial aid letter was postmarked April 4 (yesterday), so it may take a couple more days for people outside NC to get them.

warblers:
How was the aid - was it as good as you expected or better?

It was much better than I expected. Duke and some of my other schools didn't give me very much FA/merit $ at all (although we needed more), so frankly, I wasn't really expecting that much although I kept hoping for a decent FA/merit aid package. :)

By the way, are any of you acceptees visiting Wake Forest this weekend? I can't make the open house this Friday, but I'm visiting Saturday.
