So i thought we can unify all the intervew questions in this thread so it’s easier to search for answers.

Has anyone been contact for an interview yet? if you already had yours, how did it go and what questions were you asked?

Has anyone been contact for an interview yet? if you already had yours, how did it go and what questions were you asked?

I haven't had an alumni interview... but i visited campus a couple months ago to have an interview w/ the alumni relations office. im not sure how this works exactly (whether is = to an alum interview or w/ an admissions officer or somewhere in between). anyway, it was a pretty normal interview; she expected me to have alot of questions, and she asked me about my extracurriculars, etc. it was really informal, so im not sure how other people's will be....

you know sometimes interviewers ask you what do you think is your weakness? so i was wondering what is a weakness that doesn't make you seem like a total failure?

well....I know mine's the fact that my ***** isn't very big....so I guess I could use that

However, I don't think I could prove it, that would just be totally inappropriate

Esquared! thanks for the oversharing...gotta give you prop for that!

I recommend you role play your interview with someone else - it really helped me. I am very comfortable with people, but it is amazing how different it is when you are asked a direct question that you aren't always expecting.

Weaknesses that aren't fatal - I have to learn to delegate more, I'm too much of a perfectionist, I'm learning to be a good leader and a good friend at the same time, stuff like that.

Good questions to ask - What are you looking for in a strong candidate? What is the typical class size for entry level freshmen year courses/ most upper class courses?, How much are graduate assistants used?, How accessible is faculty - do they keep regular office hours? What do most students do on weekends? How popular are frats? Any big issues on campus now? If there are any special programs like semester or year abroad you are interested in, you can ask how many people do that. For alumni interviewers, I always asked them about their jobs, how often they get back to campus etc.

One question I got is how would people at my school describe me if they were asked to, or what am I best known for by people who know me at school.

Esquared- (point finger) Hahahahaha!

Advice: Turn your weakness into a strength. Like I would say in group projects, I like to pretty much do everything or be the leader, unless I really know someone well enough to know they will do a high caliber of work. I feel that at Penn, other students will be motivated, and I won't have to worry, so I will be able to really enjoy group projects and being part of a team.

Bad example, but I think you guys know what I mean.

I said that sometimes I am too meticulous with my work.

collegecountdown, i really like the questions you posted! are you a penn student?

so penn does follow up for interviews in the rd round?

starbucks98 - Thanks! No, I just got into Penn ED. I went on a bunch of interviews this past fall and I have two books on college interviews that were really helpful.

admitmetokollege - for ED interviews went on until the committee went into session, so for RD that would probably be through February or even part of March.

congrat collegecountdown!
are you going to the college, wharton, or SEAS?
hope i can meet you this fall

starbuck98 - Thanks, and hope to see you there! I'm going to the College.

I just had my interview. It was 20 minutes long. That being said, I thought it went very well. I was asked...
-about my program of choice
-why I like penn
-can I handle the campus (I am a farm girl)
-about my community service
-if I had any questions (mine were too specific and she's referring me to an enginerring person)
-how big is my school
-how I felt about housing development
-how sports take up a lot of time
-what do I do with music (biggest hobby)

and that's about it. I have zero social skills but wasn't nervous or weird or anything.

Mine was on Thursday and lasted about an hour and 20 minutes. Things discussed:

Why Penn?
Europe
University of Maryland
lobbyists
lawyer
law school
old people
creepy people at the library
theatre
job
clingy parents
moving in at Penn
crime

thanks guys!

don't worry if your interview is short like mine. I didn't have any awkward silences or any lack of conversational topics....she just figured since she didn't know anything about engineering that the interview was pointless for ME.

I just had mine. It lasted about 55 minutes and was the best interview I have had. I really like the people who represent Penn (my interview, adcom Chamberlin, etc.). They give me a good vibe.

The only bad thing was that I didn't state Penn was my number one choice, or really had badly I wanted to go there(isn't, but is pretty much tied for top choice), but rather talked about my interests in it. The final thing was that I talked a bit about raising my SAT score through hardwork, which displays my motivation and drive. Thinking back, it was probably a bad move to say this, although it does say a lot about me.

The interview was definately a dialogue, which was really nice.

well i just had mine today...we discussed why penn, why penn is so much better than harvard, why yale sucks, why animals kick ass and why penn kicks ass?
