Girlfriend's situation is the same as drock's (P.S. are you my girlfriend?) Do they waitlist for fall term just due to housing? Does anyone know how financial aid works for admission in Spring? Any idea if they'll still fly her out to visit? Blah blah blah...

Waitlisted. Definitely not going to Whitman.

waitlisted and crushed.

Last year, my daughter was admitted for spring, waitlisted for fall. There was some confusion about the response card they included with the notification letter. They actually wanted it back saying you were interested before they would send you the Admit Packet. We didn't know that and didn't send it in for several weeks because we thought it meant a commitment, rather than a statement of interest. So, if you received a card like that, check with the Admissions Office and send it in if it's a statement of interest. Once she sent it in, she received more information, I think, including what her financial aid award would be for the Spring. She ended up getting admitted for the fall during the first week of May -- she had called the Admissions Office, written them, had her counselor call on her behalf. I believe her enthusiasm and persistence made a difference. In some years, many students admitted for Spring get in for the fall, and in other years, not so many. Space on campus (in classes and in the dorms) does free up in the Spring because so many students go abroad. I think my daughter was admitted for spring rather than fall was because there were other students they "wanted" more. She didn't match the typical admitted student profile in every single way -- but they found her "compelling" for a variety of reasons and did not want to reject her. I'm not sure she would have gone if she hadn't gotten in for fall. She wanted to be able to go in the spring, but she wasn't completely comfortable with the idea, even though she talked with students who started in the spring and had a great transition. The other school she was thinking seriously about attending gave her a lot of money, paid for her to fly there to visit, and really "wanted" her in comparison. But, in the end she made the right choice. Whitman has turned out to be a great fit for her -- she loves it.

yay im going to whitman, who else is joining me?

Waitlist Stats for Whitman... For fall 2005 (latest year for which stats are published), Whitman says it offered 343 students the waiting list, 144 decided to stay on the list of which 47 were admitted. Not sure about what happened in fall 2006, but if you are interested the admissions office should be able to tell you.
