Official Reed Class of 2009 Decisions Thread

<p>I'm not sure how to make this "official," but the Reed forum is lacking a thread where applicants post their results, along with their academic statistics (lame) and personal information about their Reed essay, collegiate prospects, etc. (Reed!). </p>

<p>Here's the template, if you please: </p>

AP: United States History (5)
GPA (non-weighted): 3.9

<p>Application</p>

<p>Essay
I felt really good about my common application essay, but less than confident on my Reed supplement. I talked about my interest in the Reed culture, and its philosophy department. It felt very bland.</p>

<p>Recommendations
Well, I know that at least one teacher was authentic in scope and stylistic character, though I fear the other teacher and my counselor wrote the standard, generic recommendations that do little to impress.</p>

<p>Interview
I did not have an interview with this or any college.</p>

<p>Personal Information</p>

<p>Location: Green Bay, Wisconsin
School Type: Public, suburban/urban mix
Gender/Ethnicity: Male/Caucasian
Legacy: None whatsoever. My parents went to technical school and the my mom got her bachelor’s degree going to school part-time
Athlete: I jog, but I don’t participate in school-related activities.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Head of Political Awareness Club, competitor on Math Team and Social Studies Academic Team
Other Factors: I do no volunteering, but I do have a part-time job as an usher at the local movie theater. I am a National Merit Finalist.
Other Colleges: I qualified for fee waivers, so I applied to eleven schools (Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Pomona, Reed, Stanford, Swarthmore, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin- Madison, Wesleyan and Yale). I'm "4 for 4" at the moment, accepted to Madison, Chicago, Wesleyan and REED!</p>

<p>GOOD LUCK TO ALL, IN THIS AND OTHER ADMISSIONS ENDEAVORS!</p>

<p>I realize now that the title should read "Class of 2013."</p>

<p>My bad.</p>

[ *] Essays (subject and responses):
Common Ap:
Apparently was pretty incredibly as my other schools said they liked it so much they wanted to include it in a book of how to write good essays.
And I think my little essays were the best. I talked about how I got my campters when I was a counseler to eat bugs and lose their inhibitions and ties to the modern world.
For my common app I talked about forming an intellectual and emotional community at Tanglewood .
The supplement was also pretty good I thought but kind of standard.
[ *] Teacher Recs:
I think pretty good.
[ *] Counselor Rec:
Unbeleivably lame I go to a public school and she really could know less about me or care less.
[ *] Applied on: Regular Descision
[ *] Hook (if any):
No finacial aide need and I am a pretty good singer, as in conservatory quality.

Essays (subject and responses): For Common App I wrote about NAIMUN (national Model UN Conference) and I loved my essay [my ego is a little inflated at the moment, I apologize], and elaborated on how much I loved theatre for the 150 word essay (which was really fun to write).
"Why Reed" essay was not my best.. I wrote about my personal connection to Paideia (its the name of the Scripps National Spelling Bee booklet) and then why I wanted to go to Reed.
Teacher Recs: I'm thinking they were good...
