Got in!! But who cares anymore

it simply defies reason. someone please explain to me how so far today girls from pennsylvania, virginia, tennessee and guys from illinois and massachusetts have gotten their acceptance letters...while i, sitting a quick 4-hour drive from Rice in Dallas, Texas, received my mail today with nary a trace of anything Rice-related.

i, like veritasluxmea, am wondering what this could mean, if anything.

General Comments: I got some merit money 12k + 7.5k for research. Damnit, this makes college decisions a lot harder (mostly because parental pressure). I would rather go to Harvard because I am too lazy for Rice, and I am too northern for Texas.

anyone else get the trustee scholarship???

Worries me that everyone here has been accepted so far... rejectee mails come out later?

I live a short ways away too in FW suburbs and when I see other people in FW getting acceptance letters and my mailbox is lonely (except for my Stern Acceptance + Scholarship yay!)

uh oh, everyone here was accepted. maybe that is because they send acceptances before rejections. Aahh!! I live in El Paso, TX and I still haven't gotten a letter!

"uh oh, everyone here was accepted. maybe that is because they send acceptances before rejections. Aahh!! I live in El Paso, TX and I still haven't gotten a letter!"
I don't think that's the case. I thought that's what happened at Case, because my friend got an acceptance about a week before I did, but I got accepted with a half scholarship. It was the same thing ID. Some people (not me) got accepted later.

accepted with trustee distinguished scholar ($13,500 x 4 years) and century scholar ($7,500 x 2 years + research mentorship and other benefits [i think])

uh, same stats as most people here, but i'll list them anyway, with emphasis on what made me stand out (i think):
(SAT) Math: 800, Reading: 730, Writing 650.
(SAT II) Math L2: 800, Physics: 800, Biology (E): 800, French: 650
I was in IB with 4.0 unweighted GPA, and hardest math/science classes available.
I did 2 years in this programming summer camp at UCF.
I entered programming competitions and the AMC/AIME math competition and did fairly well.
I play violin, piano and church organ (though I didn't send any recordings to Rice)
I compose (though I didn't send any compositions to Rice)
I play the organ at one of the masses on Sunday mornings as my job
I'm in the orchestra at school and the local youth orchestra.
I was concertmaster of school orchestra one year and section leader of 2nd violins another year.
I'm assuming I had amazing recommendations from teachers who knew me well.
My guidance counselor did not know me well, but I wrote a good senior autobiography and gave it to him to get to know me better.
Oh yes... I drew a picture labeled "Rice (and chopsticks)"

Who I Am:
Male.
British and Mauritian Citizen
Florida Resident (with Green Card)
Chinese ethnicity

I also got accepted into Caltech, Duke, Northwestern, and Georgia Tech. I had my heart set on Caltech, but the scholarships are seriously making me change my mind. I think I'll do that OWL weekend thing. Unless the campus is terrible (which I have a feeling it's not), I'll probably go to Rice...

I got the same scholarships as you, treekid. They aren't convincing me to choose Rice over Harvard, but they are certainly convincing my parents...

What are you majoring in? I'm thinking Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or maybe both...

Anyway, there are other factors in the Caltech/Rice decision also for me though. While Caltech/MIT are like the Harvard/Yale for Engineering schools, I think that the music school at Rice is also quite appealing to me. Not that I would major in music, but that there would be many music-minded people around would make me feel happy. Also, I'm assuming the social atmosphere at Caltech and at Rice are significantly different and that I'd like Rice's better.

is there anyone from Washington state that got in?

do you guys know when they were officially mailed out? What day exactly? :/ I'm trying to determine my chances that way.... how pathetic! but please, answer if u can!!!

I was thinking Mechanical/Civil Engineering or something. The least appealing part of Rice for me is the location. I also am quite lazy, and when I visited in February, it seemed like the students (esp engineering) study nearly all of the time. I am not definite about my decision though, and my parents will probably try to force me into Rice. I know Rice is better for engineering than Harvard, but I am not even sure if I will stay with it. I think I will go to that OWL weekend to get a better idea. When is that, anyway?

I wouldn't worry about it, they probably just send them out in batches.

do you know what time decisions go online tomorrow?

FLipsta G - it's easy to change majors at Rice, and the kids looked like they were having a great time when we visited last weekend. Go to OWL weekend, and see if it feels like a good school for you.

OWL is April 20-22... I'm glad they're paying for transportation. That certainly aided my wish to visit.
