Hello everyone just wondering…when you applied to Cal Poly did you get any sort of recognition from the school for applying? I have received notifications from all of the UCs and CSUs I have applied to minus Cal Poly…should I be worried?

My stats:
Male from SF Bay Area
GPA: 3.7
SAT: 1220
Major(s): 1. Biomedical Engineering 2. Environmental Engineering
I know I have a slim change of getting into poly, but I thought I would give applying a chance…
Good luck to all of you.

BayKid, you should email the admissions office and make sure they got your app. You should’ve gotten an email confirmation, and then an email with your login info for the portal.

actually never mind I already registered but its been so long I forgot about it…But one thing I did notice, I spelled my last name wrong on the application I send to poly and long beach. Should I just email the school and have them correct it?

yea I don’t even know why I asked that question. I called Cal Poly and they were very helpful with solving the issue, whereas CSULB just forwarded me to an answering machine. Lets hope Poly comes through with a favorable admissions decision.

I’ve called Admissions, Housing and even the on campus postal/package delivery system and have been delighted with the treatment I’ve received every time. Cal Poly is outstanding in that respect.
Good luck to you BayKid - we’re Bay folks too - and happy holidays!

Happy Holidays to you too gopeter. I still cannot believe I spelled my name wrong! They lady I talked to said the school would call back in a few weeks with a new user name for the calpoly portal.

Major: Political Science (just switched from Business)
Female
GPA: 4.06 or 3.9 ( probably the lower, knowing CP now, they’ll prob take the unweighted and say ‘screw you’ to the kids who took AP classes)
ACT: 26 (23 Math/ Science 29 Reading/Writing)
EC activities w/ leadership
I focused on my GRADES, so no job. If they’re really basing it on jobs, then whatever…
AP English, AP Gov, AP Macroecon., AP Stats (A’s in all classes)

Question: will it help that I’m applying to a Liberal Arts related major and that my ACT scores are higher in that general area? I know my math and science were low, but since my major is in general about writing and reading, will they recognize that?
Basically…do they look at your field of study with your major and see how well you performed in those areas?

You should expect, first, an email acknowledgment from admission office to approve/deny the change. That’s applied to any changes regarding your application.
I guess you’ll see the change in your portal’s “major” column when it’s officially switched.

EDIT - I hope you’re not trying to get into Business using the back door. It’s going to be very hard to switch back into business if you’re not admitted as a freshman.

i was actually told that business is easier to get into than some others.

anyways, no backdoor for me. since the CSUs make u declare your major from the start, I applied to either business or communications for the CSUs I applied to. Way back in early Oct, I had NO idea what I’d want to get into after college. Both my parents went to Cal Poly and majored in Business, so I figured I might as well apply to that because it’s kind of a general major (you can do almost anything with that degree) and because CP does have a good bsiness school

…But after being in my AP Gov class for 2 months I realized how much I love politics and my gov teacher highly recommended I take poli sci.

This link shows 2009 freshmen profile of each college in calpoly. BTW, communication is also very selective, the department’s website highlighted that but I forgot the details.
