hmm hello!

None for work hours.

French student that came to cal in 2007, went to one of the best high school in France for freshman year. ahhh… i so want to get in!

I’m curious if anyone knows if Cal Poly uses test scores/grades/etc in regards to a student’s major?

Here’s a hypothetical: say a person is applying to a math related major (Engineering, Stats, etc.). They have a good overall GPA (say, 3.8-4.0+ range), decent test scores, all that stuff. If that person (remember, who is applying to math related major) has a history of all A’s in advanced math classes (honors, AP…), and a history of Bs in English/writing related classes. And say their overall SAT/ACT isn’t great, but the areas that are most related to their major are really high (say a 680+ on SAT math, and 28+ on both ACT Math/Science).

Does that person have a good chance? Basically, does CP look at the success you’ve had in classes or on test scores that are related to your major. Obviously they look at your overall stuff, just wondering if they consider things like having really good grades/scores on subjects most closely related to your major?

Thanks for any help

no, they don’t have the time to look at the specifics

mentallyblonde and 012983 im pretty sure u guys will both get in

naixin92 and socal50 i think u guys have about a 50/50 shot

schwalls13 ur almost guaranteed into this school i think. i think it also helps for them to know that ur a national merit finalist. im pretty sure with ur grades where u live wont matter very much if at all

Does anyone know if CP takes the higher of your standardized scores?

Say if you got a 1100 on the SAT 1 and then a 30 on the ACT, obviously the ACT score is higher put into context with CP’s averages. Does CP look at both, or the higher of the two? I’ve heard before that they look at the higher one, but I’m not sure this is true?

^ Yes they do take the highest scores from all sittings according to this thread.

■■■■ LOL CHANGE ME PLEASE SAT:1300 (math 700, CR 600, wr:650) gpa weighted 3.7 arch engineering. passed APeng composition and ap physics. senior classes: ap cal, apes, ap french, apeng lit. MY GAWD I LOVE THIS SCHOOL

@ mist I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in. I applied to Arch Eng. also. I applied ED and got in with 3.8 weighted, 1220 SAT and 27 ACT. Best of luck to you!

Agree with legit1204 although a solid ACT score would be nice.

Son applied for Aerospace Engineering RD instate
4.0 W 3.81
800 Math
740 CR
690 W
What are his chances?

I think his chances look great. Nice scores and a good GPA.
Good luck to him!

My son got into AE with similar stats last year. I don’t see an ACT score which could be a problem given its increased preference.

His act ttl score was only 27. Not so great as his calculator died during the math portion. :0( Are looking more at the ACT score rather than the SAT at this school or everywhere now?
