I applied RD and I just received my admission decision today. I was denied into mechanical engineering, with straight A’s in honors and ap courses, 30 act, and very good extracurriculars. I’m also out of state. I’m shocked, disappointed, and mad, cal poly was really the school that resonated with me. What happened? I thought I was a shoo’in.

l33tbassist92, you really got rejected? its so early! wow that hella sucks. im sorry for you. try to call them? maybe something went wrong when reviewing your application.

Wow, I just found out that the denial I received was actually a prank from a friend, probably the best prank ever pulled on me, he really went all out with making it look legit, and I was completely convinced. Sorry.

momofmv; I’ve heard/read quite a few times that the ACT is gradually becoming preferred over the SAT by schools across the country. FWIW, my son scored a 27 as well.
Good luck.

The question now is, how is bassist92 going to get even? It must be done.

I read on Cal Poly’s website where the ACT is actually preferred by them, even though the majority of kids send in their SAT scores. My daughter did better on her ACT so that was what she submitted.

gotpeter Yes, I have noticed that the ACT is becoming popular. CP prefers it. My son got a 35 and I know it is because he attends an excellent school. He is also a smart kid and hard working student! His SAT scores were also good, but not as impressive as his ACT. We hope that gets him in to CP! It sure will be exciting when we finally hear something! Best of luck to your son. It is amazing how hard it is to get into a good school these days. It was much easier for us! I am very impressed with the students and how hard they work.

momofmv: Yes, it was much easier “back in the day”. DW’s math teacher got her into classes at Berkeley while she was still in HS, so she basically back-doored her way in. I think your DS will have a lot of good choices next month.

l33tbassist92: To quote James Bond, “Revenge is a dish best served cold”.
Oooh, I just thought of something. I’ll PM you a suggestion.
By the way, that’s a terrific name!
