Essays = Excellent

Interview was boring.

Other factors: Excellent regional and national academic awards.

If you're interested, my other decisions were

Accepted at

Yale, Brown, Columbia (John Jay), Dartmouth, Swarthmore (Phillip Evans), Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, Bowdoin (Faculty Scholar)

Waitlisted at

Harvard

Rejected at

Princeton (after deferral ED)

anytime :)

Just a thought...

Both sides should probably show a little humility, seeing as how a) no one is owed anything from Brown and b) Digital might very well fail at Brown. Seeing as how no one here has any psychic abilities (what an EC that would be), the matter should probably be dropped.

You caught a huge break, Digital. Good luck, and don't squander the opportunity.

The point, Ghaleon, is that maybe he didn't catch a huge break. Maybe he earned every bit of it. Maybe it turns out he's overqualified. Maybe it wasn't his race but his family life and socioeconomic status, and race was just there in addition. This is all speculation. Stop labeling. And don't belittle someone's accomplishments by telling them they caught a huge break.

i think this whole thing has gone on far enough. i mean come on, it started when some "person" mentioned how digital only got in because ofhis race, well mainly because of his race. now do u think that person would have felt powerless and mad at digitalif he felt that it should have been his spot? i geuss the ad coms saw something wrong with him and didnt bring him in, to the JOYof myself and everyone else attending. second, to much emphasis is wrongly placed on stats and scores. no one studies for the sat's by learning alot of new material. they study vocab thats been on it and they study different strategies on how to solve the problems. only the strategies. now some are smart, and others are just inflated sat scores. but they dont matter really. as soon as your in college, it wont matter what you had, just how your doing NOW. when u have as much determination and motivation as someone like digital, then you are BOUND to succeed. thats the end of it. bitterness must come to an end, aa is only a small percentage of the decision, character is the main thing. and thats how i feel. anymore news from anyone? fin aid offers?

bingo, claysoul. based on the fact that 96% of Brown freshmen come back for sophomore year and based on the fact that digital has proven himself capable of beating 86% of some of the brightest kids in America in the admissions game at Brown(not easy to do), I'd say there's an overwhelming possibility that he'll succeed at Brown.

He might very well fail? He might very well succeed!

I just undermined the intent of crumflake's statement by adding to the AA discussion. apologies, crumflake. :(

Well, we all know the the only reason I got in:

My stunning good looks.

I mean, once Brown found out how really, really, ridiculously good looking I am, how could they refuse?

and the only way i got in is because of that huge wind that blew through. this all leads me to conclude (and rather correctly because anything i thinkis correct because i got accepted into an ivy), that it akes an act of god, or you have to be earmarked at birth. so, unless you can kill all of the people aheadof you on thewaiting list, kill anouther 40 people and convince a whole lot more not to attend, all without getting caught, then thereis no way for you to get into an IVY.

lol, justpete, i did some research and unearthed a high school yearbook picture of you. Remember this? http://www.eialba.corsicanaimmaculateconception.org/ugly_guyshead.jpeg

I bet you do. You must be a genius or something cause I KNOW they didn't let you in looking like that.

****ING A! WHO LET THAT OUT!?

That was only supposed to be sent to the admissions office.

"The point, Ghaleon, is that maybe he didn't catch a huge break."

Would the vast majority of admissions officers bother with someone with scores so low in a rushed situation? No. But they managed to see past the scores to the work that earned every bit of them. He got a decision that shows that they have faith in his potential, instead of a blunt blow-by-blow commentary on testing. If that's not a break, I don't know what is.

"And don't belittle someone's accomplishments by telling them they caught a huge break."

It seems a lot of people here feel fortunate that they got in, because they considered themselves borderline admits. Same thing here. A break at friggin' Brown isn't something to be ashamed of. It's something to feel appreciative for. If you want to attack me for something, it should be redundancy, seeing as how I'm sure he's thankful for the opportunity he got.

"He might very well fail? He might very well succeed!"

...Which is why I wished him good luck. Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough (or perhaps many here need to learn to take an unbiased approach to the admissions process), but I had only the best intentions with my comment. Only a fool would look down on someone or hope that he/she fails. I was merely reinforcing the fact that any positive or negative assertions about someone's future are speculations, and that comments about it are unneeded, but not enough to warrant a scolding.

Decision: rejected - am really sad about this. brown was my top choice, ahead of harvard and yale, both of which my dad made me apply for.

ummm

i forget

Do you guys know how 1600s did in the admissions process? :( I know a reeeeaaallllly stupid girl who took 5 of those $1,000+ SAT prep classes and took the SAT four times and scored a 1600, and she was accepted to Brown but rejected by all the other Ivies. It made me sad. She's going to bring the collective coolness of you cool Brown kids down, so be careful! I know it's lame to be upset with Brown for accepting her, but all the other Ivies saw through her 1600, and Brown didn't. :( I'm being lame, I know, so no need to tell me.

Doesn't matter, as long as she's hot.

hot and stupid... hmm.. not my type. hoever, this just goes to show you that the SAT is srap, and i dont care what u got. granted, it does seperate some people from others, but its all just crap.

She's not bad looking, but not too hot. She's really stupid. I'm tempted to post essays she's written on this board, but that would be evil of me. I'm probably just bitter that a girl like her is going to my dream school.

Yeah, you sound bitter. I'm sure she can't be as stupid as you say. Girls pretend to be stupid a lot.
