@nhbmymymymy Exactly, with the exception of one of them, which was released on May 1st. “mid-May to mid-June” is a safety blanket statement but you know what… For the sake of my wellbeing, I think I’ll buy it.
To be honest, I was hoping that I’d get Rice’s decision after the other colleges I applied to. It’s my top choice, and having it as a first rejection (or not?) would be devastating. If I had other acceptances, even one, the blowback wouldn’t hurt as much.
After 5PM CT, all predictions are off, throw your papers in the air and go about life. One thing is 100% sure. You -will- receive a decision. As for those in a corner(with the enrollment deposits), wait until the last day until placing it. If you don’t hear from Rice until then, then so be it- go with the first college that said they believe in you.
@umbra505 if the deposit is going to be a big deal and you’re receiving financial aid/pell grant, I hear that Vanderbilt does waive deposit fees for some people so you should ask about that! I’m having the same problem too haha, I got into Vandy but Rice or NW are my top choices
It has gotten to the point where I am telling everyone that I will be attending UTD in the fall because I haven’t gotten a decision yet but we’ll see
@AGoodFloridian what do you think about the people who finished their applications after the deadline? I know that there are some people (myself included) who sent in transcripts and other minor paperwork after March 15. Do you think that will affect our decision date? I’m just curious haha
I have some of my application supporting documents arrive after the deadline also. But I think it does not affect the decision cause they may get used to that during years. But it is possible that for some late complete applications, the applicants will hear back in second or third rounds. However, Rice seems to send the first round to who they wants the most so I am not sure is it our case.
@Sheerio10 , that’s not really a big issue at all. The deadline that you see on the website is for the CommonApp. As long as you submitted that before the deadline, you’re fine. Obviously, it’s always encouraged to send in those important documents asap but your profile won’t be “blacklisted” because some of them arrived a week or two later.
The “latest” document they received from me, for example, was my Transfer College Report, on the 21st of March, about a week after the deadline.
You know who I really feel sorry for?
Next year’s transfer applicants :)) They’ll be scouring past threads, coming up with conclusions only to hit a brick wall once they get to our thread. I’m sure they’ll see this message in a year’s time. To those who come after, stay strong.
We know your pain.
@AGoodFloridian omg I was thinking exactly the same thing! I was like "if the next year applicants open this thread and try to find the exact time the decision was released, they will go crazy
guess there won’t be anything out today
Here’s my thoughts on the “breaking of the trend”:
Admissions was waiting on all freshman applicants to put down their deposits to see exactly how many spaces they have available. By doing this they can offer a more accurate number of transfers a spot in the first round of acceptances. So today they are getting the numbers and goals aligned and finalizing everything. Still stressful not knowing, but there’s nothing we can do.
And I will be studying Mechanical Engineering (Slight chance of Electrical Engineering) with a minor in either Engineering Design or Computational and Applied Mathematics, and perhaps pursuing the Engineering Leadership certificate.
This is the only place I have applied to so far, and while I have a plan if it does not work out, Rice has been my dream school for a long time (Would be 4th generation Rice Owl actually). Best of luck everyone.
Has anyone heard back yet? We have 3 more hours until cut off and I need to be registering for orientation for UTD soon if I have not heard back yet
@Sheerio10 silenced here as well. I am so sorry for your situation. This is very inconvenient for students who need to decide as soon as posisble. Hope Rice admission office knows about what we are experiencing
lol I asked for a vanderbilt enrollment fee waiver and it’s a binding agreement… oh well I’ll be risking it all until I get my decision from Rice
@umbra505 , it’s a shame we can’t get straight answers but like I said before, wait as long as you’re allowed to… If the deadline arrives and Rice hasn’t given you a decision, then by all means go with Vandy.
That’s interesting that they offer a enrollment fee waiver, I didn’t know that.
@AGoodFloridian The Vandy deadline is tonight, unfortunately.
It looks like I’ll be attending Vandy next year. I like Rice, but if I get in I probably won’t like it enough to lose those $400 + probably $2,500/year in loans that I wouldn’t have at Vanderbilt. Good luck to y’all!
@usualhopeful I am sorry for your tough situation. But from what I know, Vanderbilt is an amazing school and you will definitely shine there. Best wishes for you!
Wow I didn’t know your deadline was that soon! Best of luck at Vandy!! I know you will be amazing!!
Part of me feels a bit sad, but at the same time - I really shouldn’t have to say it- you’ve got an amazing college under your belt. I remember both of us stressing over all of this weeks ago, but now the door is open right in front of you. Take those steps pal, you’re going to be awesome at Vandy!
In some crazy twist of fate, I suddenly feel… “relieved” that I didn’t get a decision from Vandy in the first wave. It would’ve meant me sacrificing the prospect of going to my top choice- Rice. I know myself, had I been accepted in the first I wave, I’d do exactly what you’re doing @usualhopeful .
If I actually get admitted to Rice, I may have to… tweak my thoughts on destiny a bit :))
I’m certainly excited about Vanderbilt! I’ll almost certainly be rejected from Rice and not have to even think about it (and I’m at that point where a tiny part of me wants that to happen).
I am honestly just shook that we not only broke the trend, but none of us have heard back. :o
